The number of people out here going " forcibly annexing sovereign territory is a distraction from the fascist plan" is making me weep for every history teacher in the country

True. The real surprise might be the lack of creativity and imagination. Why just copy-paste; “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”? (Well, it actually and luckily did break in the end, so it’s more like a plan worthy of good old Baldrick…)
Yep! Its really only a matter of time before Trump and co. realize only the teeniest tiny minority of anyone living in these places want their BS so they'll start manufacturing excuses for a violent takeover.
Place your bets if they'll focus on Canada's "godlessness" (ie: we aren't actively oppressive towards women and queer people as the US currently is) as an excuse to bomb us or go full sinophobic because Canada has a higher % of ethnically Chinese citizens than the US (or so I've been told).
I am still hoping Canadians are smart enough not to vote PP into office but assuming not I'm hoping everyone else in parliament keeps the dude from doing some stupid ass bulllshit like giving Trump what he wants x-X
We have cultural and historical ties to *checks notes* Greenland…it’s Greenland, right? We’re talking about the US historical involvement in Greenland? Yes! The Greenlanders must be repatriated into their Mother Country!
For me, I know the forcible annexation is incredibly serious, but I still wonder what quieter horrors they’re initiating that are going under the radar right now but will become public later. That happened all the time during his previous term.
Taking stuff from other people is a lot easier than taking it from your own.
I'm pretty sure that they already knew that "the only thing we learn from history is that no one learns from history", but they probably weep about how little people learned anyway.
The problem with a guy like Trump is that he talks so much shit all the time, it's difficult to tell what's 'real' and what's something he thought would sound good up until he actually tries to implement the thing.
The CBC here in Newfoundland interviewed university professors saying it's not serious, he's delusional.
In my mind I hear sheep bleeting in the background. Bêêh! Bêêh! (Meanwhile a wolf in the flock makes another sheep vanish jn a cloud of blood droplets) Bêêh!
Discussing purchasing at the end of his term is very different from not ruling out military action before even entering office. War is the most important issue, and even if he does not act seriously on it, threatening others sovereignty is not something the rest of the world takes lightly.
You know how he keeps talking about wind power and water in ridiculous terms? Add this in with those things to ignore. He is not going to take Greenland via military action. Will he talk about it constantly the more attention it gets, yes. Let’s be smarter this time. It’s a distraction.
“Let’s be smarter” well you live in his country, I don’t. I live in one of the countries he is threatening. To you, it’s a distraction, but to the entire rest of the world, it’s an escalation. Words like this have consequences.
Don’t let him scare you. I live here and I’m not scared of him. Republicans want people to be scared…and stupid. He literally lies all the time and lives for attention. Don’t give him power over you to make you live in fear. He’s literally an imbecile.
Sometimes I wonder if this logic is a consequence of all the Die Hard discourse. That movie wherein Alan Rickman and his merry band try to distract from a robbery by pretending to be terrorists.
If your distraction is worse than the thing you are intending it's not really a "distraction" is it?
I feel like the difference is that annexing Greenland or Canada definitely aren't going to happen. They're distractions precisely because they draw attention away from things that are happening/will happen.
It’s just frustrating because this is just how it was the first time. Trump would pull some policy out his ass, everyone would freak out, he’d wind up backing down because he’s a lazy coward and then say a new stupid thing and the cycle would start again.
I just wish everyone would ask themselves if Donald Trump, the man who golfed for most of his Presidency, actually has the time and patience to start doing any of this.
The question one should ask themselves when Trump announces some bizarre scheme or plot is whether or not the people around Trump can convince him to do some shit he actually does not want to do. He’s a lazy, cowardly old fuck.
He’s gonna rattle his saber and then these countries who have actual adults will manipulate him into thinking he’s won something and then he’ll announce “I WON!” and go back to golf.
I’m not saying shit won’t get bad, I’m saying he’s not gonna annex shit. He just wants attention.
Oh I’m sure he’s actually spitballing the idea but it’s going nowhere.
Destabilizing NATO, though?
That’s definitely on the agenda with a much higher chance of success.
annexing Greenland is to distract you from tarrifs which are to distract you from Syria which is to distract you from trans sports bans which are to distract you from inflation which is to distract you from Palestine which is to distract you from RFK who is to distract you from deportations which ar
It’s easier to just say fascism. I saw some Democratic party consultant on the news after Harris lost saying dems need to stop using the word fascist because no one knows what it means and it sounds elitist. Ok, well, maybe more people need to go watch every WWII movie ever made until they get it
Well, it’s true up to point; it’s a distraction; not from the fascist plan as such, but it’s still a distraction from the
part of the fascist plan you don’t want some people to see just right now. It’s turtles all the way down. And it works

Being Cassandra in a cardigan sucks balls.
will they ever learn?

Show me troop deployments then we can worry about the future of Canada, but we can all see that just the conversation is distracting.
We need to be looking at what they are actually putting into motion.
Until we see legitimate activity on the part of the US military this is just loud talk. It's a flashy object.
Real things are happening soon, all less noticeable.
In my mind I hear sheep bleeting in the background. Bêêh! Bêêh! (Meanwhile a wolf in the flock makes another sheep vanish jn a cloud of blood droplets) Bêêh!

No one's talking about his cabinet picks anymore.
Or Elon.
He’s just talking bullshit right now.
This shit is exhausting for real.
