Bessent: "I'm told that in parts of Florida, gasoline is $1.93, and that's an automatic tax cut for the American people. We're probably gonna see a lot more car travel this summer. So I think things are in good shape."

Hello. Person living in Florida here. I paid $3.27/gallon for regular yesterday and was surprised by the hike in price. Forgot my "Trump did this" sticker though.
Gas prices will go down for a little while, but that's because of lowered demand in the commercial sector. Not an overall good story. https://youtu.be/BCZXfb22ozI
Translation: A lot more vehicle travel this summer as people go from store to store to store, because shelves will be empty due to tariffs.
Prepare for a barrage of TikTok videos: OMG! WTF? What is going on? What is happening. I've been everywhere. 12 stores. No one has any. The stores are empty!
The problem they have with telling these type of lies is unlike them, most people actually buy their own gas and groceries. They can only bullshit each other.
WTI is $58.45 a barrel today. This is below the level where it’s economic to extract. Drillers are closing down their operations. OPEC are increasing production levels, Russian crude coming back onto the market… and these people funded Trump’s election campaign 😂
The current average price of gasoline in the US is $3.160 per gallon, which translates to approximately $0.84 per liter. Here in Europe we pay about €1.50 or $1.69 per litre.
Stop f**king complaining!!!!
They're going to blame Democrats for all of this, and of course, they have their state TV (Fox Propaganda and Newsmax) who will do their messaging for them. And legacy media will run the story without pushing back: "Trump blames Dems for the crash". Could be 3 yrs from now and they'll find a way
I agree, the die-hard cultists will believe it. The problem with the rest of them is you don't know what they'll believe.
They didn't believe us telling them this would happen. They believed he would be good for the economy and lowering prices. People are just that gullible - it's sad.
You clearly don't have the research skills of Scott Bessent. He knows a guy called Gator who siphons gas from tourist cars in Ft Lauderdale. He'll hook you up for about $1.93 per gallon.
Even if gas is that low in Florida it would never offset the increase the costs of everything else. FL your international tourism will tank. Domestically the regular folks are going to hunker down. You can only stretch income so far before it snaps.
Those people will parrot anything, no matter how tenuous or spurious the source, no matter if true, or so false it reeks, to support the circus tent they call an administration.
So many false equivalencies. If I spend $20 less on gas a month but all of my groceries costs me an extra $100 a month (and that's being generous) I am now -$80 in the hole. I love how they try to phrase everything as a "tax cut" when they've literally made everything more expensive.
Well we can’t go on vacation because it’s too expensive now plus we’re embarrassed to tell people we’re Americans. So yes, domestic travel probably is the only option. The gas price itself is a complete lie.
Florida imposes taxes on gasoline, including state excise tax, local taxes & inspection fees, which contribute to the overall price at the pump. The current state excise tax on gasoline is approximately 25.3 cents per gallon. Less revenue for the state equals a need for higher tax burdens for ....
GOOGLE: The current average gas price in Florida is around $3.148 per gallon for regular gasoline. This is up from $3.053 yesterday and $3.126 last week.
As of April 30, 2025, Mississippi has the lowest average gas price in the United States at $2.67 per gallon. Other states with relatively lower gas prices include Texas ($2.74), Oklahoma ($2.75), and Louisiana ($2.76).
Several things: “I’m told”…???cheap gas is NOT an “automatic tax cut”….Florida is NOT America…car travel will NOT help the tourism industry and no, things are NOT GOOD
The most optimistic take is 'one station is stunting for Trump/using gas as a loss leader for memberships or something', but he's probably just making things up
oh so the collapse of oil prices and exploding the economy of rural Texas, Alaska, and the Gulf Coast is what they’re shooting for here? bet their voters there will looooove that
Gas prices go down as recession is expected. This also means that oilfield workers will be laid off causing even more contractions as tariffs cause port/Truck drivers to be laid off
Where is that? In Oakland Park/Fort Lauderdale, gas goes down and then within a day or two jumps back to 3.29+ a gallon. often a .30 to .40 cent increase per gallon at one shot. Presidents don't control gas prices. Greedy Oil CEOS do and get away with it
Of course not. That number is probably just another lie. But the math of the lie is the real villain. When gas goes down a nickel, people get really excited. But that nickel is about $0.60/fill-up. Woohoo! We're rich!
Good thing because weather isn't changing & getting more extreme in FL where crisis management is parking luxury cars on bridges & killing poor people without transportation while ppl spend millions helping the GOP white whale golf his way into the pearly gates of Epstein Island. There he blows!
I’ve lived in Florida for around 55 years and have seen dozens of hurricanes and their devastation. I’m a federal employee and am required to report for emergency duty. During Irma, my 9 y/o granddaughter was terrified. So, fuck you.
Oil prices suddenly tanking means 1 of 2 things - both bad.
1). commodities traders expect low demand for oil and distillates going foward (i.e. people won't be driving much) which usually means bad economic headwinds, or
2). OPEC is trying to bankrupt other producers and then jack up their prices.
According to Gas Buddy, the lowest price is one station in Florida selling $2.39. Most around around $2.55. So, basically, he's -- and I know you'll want to sit down for this -- lying.
It’s almost like they don’t realize that in 2025, “things you’re told” can be easily verified via the magic of the interwebs. Even by the most gracious interpretation, whoever “told” you that should be fired. But that’s all part of the grift. Sigh. 🙄
You can argue that the actual prices are lower than they were a year ago, but he's still embellishing the truth - taking more than 20% off what gas prices actually are.
The cheapest on GasBuddy as of today is $2.39 in Port St. Lucie. GasBuddy isn't that popular in Flordia it seems so the data is pretty sparse, but that $1.93 gas is probably some E88 weird gas station in the middle of nowhere.

There will be car travel, as people flee economic collapse and riots. F’n moron.
That’s a tax cut.

DO YOUR JOB, MEDIA!!

For similar reasons it came down the last time they were in charge.
Ships, planes, semi & delivery trucks won't be using nearly as much gas going forward.

Maybe drop a pin so I can find this $1.93 gas because…definitely don’t see it.
So about 38 cents a dozen from the average January price, or maybe 70 cents from the peak price.
The lying liars are taking their cues from the boss.
Stop f**king complaining!!!!
By big, burly men with tears in their eyes?
They didn't believe us telling them this would happen. They believed he would be good for the economy and lowering prices. People are just that gullible - it's sad.
By whom? Big, strong men with tears in their eyes?

FUCKING LIAR 🤥
Average price of a gallon of gas in Florida: $3.18
Disinformation from the Secretary of the Treasury.
Someone's lying to the boss.

And gas prices are only down because demand is plummeting because no one can afford to travel.
Also, who's still wants to visit or live in Florida at this point? I don't care what the gas prices are, it's still Florida.
Doesn’t make it true.
It doesn’t
None.
Never vacation in Florida.
Ever.
Once.
We are in the upside down.
A. I'm lying and I giving myself enough slack to wiggle free later.
B. Someone told me this and I don't believe them but I don't care because it's not on me.
Also, more car travel negates that savings.

And people *listen* to him?
Somebody who told him was wrong. This is how the game is played excuses and blame.
Not even a T-Shirt.
