I don't know what the gender ratio of my followers on here is like, but: I would like to do away with my round brush because I think it's causing breakage. what are the girlies doing for their blowouts? are we all buying the dyson thing now or what?

I love my Dyson airwrap it’s amazing. I think it really depends on your hair texture and thickness. I have curly thick hair and it’s the only device I’ve used that can dry and style in 15ish minutes. Have had barely any breakage or split hairs since I started using it vs. when I used a round-brush.
I’ve read that if you have any length to your hair- air drying from wet can be damaging bc of the weight. So I started diffusing it to damp and then letting it dry or cast.
If you have curly hair and you want it straight and/or wavy you do a blow out. It’s all a matter of what kind of hair you have and what you want it to look like.
You can also straighten curly or wavy hair by using cold wrap method Or better yet you can embrace ypur curly or wavy hair by using a diffuser with bit of leaven in creme to demish frizz
Ummm. Men brush their hair too. I suggest going the no poo route. My hair is three feet long and luscious. I use co-wash monthly, my curly haired offspring uses it weekly.SHEA MOISTURE brand
In spring 2020, when salons were shuttered in NYC, I bought the Dyson air wrap ahead of hosting my first Zoom. Genius. I have the Revlon as backup and it’s an inexpensive way to test if the concept works for you, though it seems to run hotter.
The Shark is way better than the Dyson, and I 1000% love it. BUT! I believe Conair and Revlon have dupes out now that are only like $100 and look very promising.
That’s ok - it’s really only us Brits who realised - he screwed us all over by demanding govt money to stay in the UK whilst backing Brexit then immediately moving his business to Singapore .
I use a blow-dry brush from Drybar. I have arthritis in my hands and wrists so early mornings are tough- the dryers are a lifesaver. I recently discovered the half shot dryer, since my hair is kind of short and looks flat if I use too big of a brush
Using old faithful, the paddle brush. Fortunately, it's summer here so quick rinse/wash and a pony and my hair is dry. And I have a lot of hair. In winter, I use Davroe Fortitude Bond Building Elixir for blow dry. https://www.mecca.com/en-au/aveda/wooden-paddle-brush-I-032713/?
I loved my Dyson Airwrap, but it stopped working after a couple of years and I won’t pay that much for another one. I bought an adapter for my Dyson blow dryer on Amazon and can use the curling attachments with that. I’ll probably get the T3 version of the Airwrap eventually.
I’m coming up on 7 years with my Dyson (I was speaking at lots of conferences and spending too much $ at Drybar when they came out) and I’m still totally loving it
Limited experience here, but my girlfriend got the ghd duet thing for Christmas last year (under strong guidance from her sister, who knows more about these things) and it's been amazing. She loves it, the result is great...
💯 or its imitators. Hot air brush with an oblong shape. Every single time I use it, I get compliments.
Dyson thing looks cool, but people who spent hundreds claim better results because otherwise they’d have to admit they spent so much on a fancy diffuser.
I am so curious why you think the round brush is causing breakage. I think the Dyson hair tools are bogus personally but I hope you find something that helps!
Agree just got a refurbished shark and it’s the only thing that makes my hair feel like a salon blowout. Still struggling with the curls lasting, but great for a bouncy blowout.
i have other hair and scalp issues so i'm probably a bad example but i'm pretty sure this torched my ends and caused my hair to fall out more than it otherwise would have. sucks cause it was super convenient
Hair stylist here. When using a round brush and a blow dryer, turn down the heat on your blow dryer and don't use so much tension. Heat and tension equal breakage.
Girl, I have bad news… Some hair is just susceptible to breakage (and I tried everything).
Not washing your hair very often may help, but I personally cannot do it.
Not styling may help but 😒 not for everyone.
Try oiling up the dry ends🤷♀️
Sorter haircut is your best bet, maybe getting pregnant 🤔
Oh, I’m here for this! I held out a long time on the Dyson Airwrap, but I got it (curly hair package) in December and love it. I have thick hair, and it dries about 25% faster without feeling crazy hot... But it’s an investment; I rec the Revlon dryer brush if a cheap alternative is needed.
i would try swapping for wire bc you have less dryer time from the extra airflow, and depending on if you wash weekly (like i do) maybe a light oil 1-2 days after wash
Hair cripples my Dyson vacuum cleaner. It’s all powerful until it comes to a strand of hair then it shuts down and refuses to suck until I take out the beater brush and remove the offending hair. Thinking of downgrading to a Bissell
I use this thing, by Tigi but Revlon has one as well. Similar to a round brush but feels more gentle. I hit the roots with a regular dryer then use this dryer section by section.
And sorry the label is for a different tool. The is the "blow out freak". Also really recommend Oribe Supershine Moisturizer Cream before you dry. It's provides a nice protecting layer in your hair but doesn't feel sticky.
Dyson thing is not worth the money, according to my stylist and also my sister (who bought a used one). Stylist said it's not durable, some part of it burns out or something? And sister said her styles didn't have the longevity of styles with more affordable tools.
Very much agree on the Revlon (and similar) brush. Also a fun plus- cuts down time you futz around with your hair considerably. Mine seems pretty durable. Still using the one I got in mid-2022.
Maybe a different round brush? I use bestool round brushes and haven’t noticed a ton of breakage. I’m curious about the Dyson, too… but not sure I’m ready to try it!
Girl have you seen the giant bald headed dudes that normally grace homepages? You could have shown up unwashed and in PJs and still been a refreshing change.
Hair is kryptonite to my Dyson vacuum cleaner, I’m not putting anything Dyson anywhere near my hair.
But I have been using my Elchim for over 20 years and it’s still amazing.
I might be sorry here, and at the risk of stepping into uncharted waters for me, my significant other, Who Knows These Things, found the Dyson too big and awkward to use, and terrible for travel (when it might be needed most). I will now tactfully leave this conversation to the experts.

Over the last few years, I got her the two Dyson products and a boar bristle brush from La Bonne Brosse.
She’s tough about this stuff and she loves all 3.
I use a paddle brush AND a Dyson supersonic!
Ooh and this great spray called Color WOW
I fixed my Dyson V12 vac today, with the help of a YouTube video & AliExpress part! Over price kit & parts, plus non existent Cust Service.
No more Dysons for me!
Also, Dyson is a terrible, terrible person.

(I also use a wet brush in the shower while I have conditioner in) https://www.ulta.com/p/custom-care-thin-hair-detangler-brush-pimprod2032643?sku=2591449
I'm an idiot that doesn't know about this so if this is annoying then ignore me lol

I was using it before it got cool; I have never been cool but I am lazy

Dammit dammit dammit.
I think the Dyson minimized damage to my hair (plus using a good brush and a heat protecting spray/oil).
Get the Ion
But I have been using my Elchim for over 20 years and it’s still amazing.
