I have trouble seeing a 9-0 SCOTUS decision, however ambivalent, being reversed at this point. Roberts needs to take an ethics lesson and a legal writing class from his 4th Circuit.

On second thought, given the immunity decision, he has shown that his more likely model is Gumby.

Hoping Judge Wilkinson’s recent opinion helps gives them some courage to give Trump the smackdown he deserves if and when this case gets back to the Supreme Court. Wilkinson has been on the 4th Circuit for decades, and is very well respected in conservative legal circles.

Oh no, here's the thing; Roberts has, historically, shown to be obsessed with perception of the court, and more specifically, his legacy on the court. While I think that legacy is already in the shitter, nothing would destroy him more than being the court that caved.

The part that lawyer brain immunizes you from being able to see is that the acknowledgement is more important than the actual powerlessness. If everyone knows he can override you at will he usually won't. It's a fundamental distaste for the rule of law as a concept.
