A new DFP poll of New York City shows Andrew Cuomo dominating, passing 50% in the RCV simulation before Eric Adams is even eliminated — and then getting most Adams supporters to soar to a very commanding lead. Election is just in 3 months.

There are so many legit candidates for mayor. My favorite are @bradlander.bsky.social & @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social . Every time someone mentions the mayoral election remind them of our candidates and don’t rank adams or Cuomo! We have an acronym @dreamfornyc.bsky.social
This will definitely change as the election draws closer. I guarantee you there’s a loud and sizable group of New Yorkers that don’t want Andrew to be mayor.
If the 47 non-Cuomo/Adams candidates actually care about NYC they should all sit down in a room until they decide which ONE of them is running for mayor.
Having so many of them makes it hard for anyone to gain any recognition. People who don’t follow this stuff closely will just pick the name they know or not even bother.
It’s unbelievable—this country has millions of people, and yet there’s no one else who can lead that city? We’re facing a real crisis: an inability to develop and pass the baton to the next generation of leaders.
I once tried to convince my SO to run for the retiring State's Attorney's position because their names were so similar that I figured some people would say, "Hey isn't that the guy I vote for every 4 years?"
Somebody needs to put the NY State Democratic Party out of its misery. If not for themselves, then for the rest of us who have to endure the likes of Schumer, Jeffries, Cuomo, et al.
Cuomo has name recognition plus is borne of generational machine politics, Mamdani sounds great to people who follow politics closely but there is so much work that the left just won't do to adapt to the socialect and concerns of ESL and non-college constituents.
I am chalking it up to treading water. there is the whole notion that in prior eras this scandal or another would doom a political career. we are beyond that now, or, a certain ind. is impervious to that and others are taking note. so he's running here to maintain a profile for future objectives
agreed. It's a sneaky move for a comeback because it could be presented it as some kind of humility-- oh he's learned his lesson he's not looking for the governor seat again. But actually he'd have roughly the same amount of power and influence as before
I'm just curious cause I imagine suff. large cities may be more complex governance-wise than what the state deals with. Micro vs macro. in the case of the state of NY, there is the City, and everything else is mid-range cities and farmland with the City almost being its own contained citystate.
Not suprised. Name recognition + daily briefings during the pandemic for better or worse give him an edge. People don't realize that he is basically Eric Adams 2.0.
No offense but how do you do that if they vote these people in. What leadership is supposed to do something when they were all apparently voted in by “do I know that guy?”
I get it. But, again, how are you supposed to hold them to account if the very voters who can won't? You are missing a step there in your goal to excuse voters.
by not blaming voters declaring they are dumb, which reflects a mindset that those who dominant must do so by some inherent quality the lowest on the totem pole lack
instead the question should be - why didn't those who hold power take action to change the equation
Now? That’s the way it’s been for a long ass time. People in this country are both apathetic and real fucking stupid. It’s only getting worse as time passes.
We kept voting for Diane Feinstein until she was in the grave. She was absolutely pitiful and the people that kept voting for her were so fucking stupid. It was all just a name
It’s so ridiculous. The folks who actually think for themselves can never get on the same page so the only people with a plurality of votes ends up being the candidate with the most idiots who’ve heard of them 😭

Refuse to cover anyone else.
Handed him lead
Let’s get it on!
When the two 6%-ers are eliminated, that is when things start to shift, i.e., top candidates get significant numbers.

But apples-to-apples, the governorship is more prestigious and power, and is seen as more prestigious and powerful, compared to the mayorship.
Not a reason not to back candidates like Zohran, but a reason to keep organizing against the power structures that enable Cuomo
How much will this poll change after people learn that Andrew Cuomo wants to raise their rent?
You know what is a great book to read on the topic - "The Power Broker".
New York has a tradition of putting Democrats in office who abide by letting conservative agenda go through
Its an almost impossible task
Let's start by not blaming the person holding the fewest cards of power in this equation
instead the question should be - why didn't those who hold power take action to change the equation
