I made a suggestion to the @bsky.app gods, that they should try to capture the niche of video from TikTok who is brutal to their creators, and may be leaving the US anyway. They shouldn’t change their layout, just add more vid options/lengths.
Also it cut out the very excellent moment when Prince throws the guitar over his head at the very end of the song and walks stone-faced off the stage like he had a cooler place to be.
also, for the folks jumping in with the “I prefer ____” stuff, that is incredibly weird and unnecessary energy. No one is taking away your love of whatever artist. Enjoy it, love it, CELEBRATE it. Stop trying to be a wet blanket on someone else’s joy for no good reason. Have a happy Friday, y’all 💜
My understanding is that they're going to offer a subscription service here which will allow for longer uploads. Personally I think it's a dumb idea because if they allowed for longer video uploads here they could monetize through ads a la YouTube.
I could watch that over and over and over – my favourite Beatles song and my absolute favourite musical god. The quick grins shared while he plays, and how he ends it – perfection!
THIS. I can watch this clip over and over and it never gets old. I don't care if it was an F.U. to those who underestimated his guitar artistry, it's epic. There wasn't much he couldn't do, musically. I saw him twice in the 80s in concert. Best ever.
I will NEVER forgive myself for not at least going to see him when he was performing at the Forum a few years before he passed. That is awesome that you were able to see him back in the 80s!!
He might have been on similar ground with the other guitar legends on that stage but none of them played with the same style and emotion. Prince's musicality is still unrivaled.
Be kind. G-d gives you the same lesson until you learn it. So next time make a different choice. I gave up hanging out with my idol (playwright) 2-3 times for stupid obligations people would have said fine until once I didn’t- just said to editor at paper what I was doing. Now it’s done!
No harm in trying! Just be aware that very few people have the talent that he did and don’t be put off by that. It’s okay to be okay or good at something. Most people are average and that’s fine!
If I live to be 1000000 I will never ever forget Prince performing Purple Rain in the actual freaking rain and not missing a beat at the Super Bowl Halftime. A brilliant brilliant man gone far too soon.
I got to see him live for my 30th birthday in a sold out arena show. I am not exaggerating when I say I almost cried 4 times during the show. He was a once in a generation talent. To this day the best show I have ever seen 💜💜💜
This man's loss was something that shattered me to my core. It still does to this day. A true musical genius was lost. There will never be another like him. RIP to a true legend.
Prince was a legend while alive, now he’s almost mythical status. Like how could he be that good, play so many instruments, and also write and sing? And his fashion! One day people won’t believe he really existed.
I don't mind telling everyone I was in my late fifties with grown kids when I discovered Prince, and today in my seventies, I still think he is the best stage performer, hands down, I have ever witnessed. I am unashamedly ugly crying from the flashback this post gave me. Long live Prince!
I really need to make a playlist that's just a compilation of beautiful solos like this with a few Megadeth ones thrown in to keep my blood pressure from dropping too low🤌🏿
Most readily acknowledge and celebrate his undeniable record making genius, his pop icon status. But, the guitar virtuosity!! I hope more and more people will stumble upon clips like this and blow their minds anew with delight and appreciation :)
I saw him as an up-and-coming artist in Minneapolis St Paul in the late seventies, long before he was prince. Even back then it was clear he was a combination of Jimi Hendrix and James brown.
Pure. After many years of practicing instruments, talking through it is the main goal. Not speed, not range. Just speak your mind with love. You can see it in his face.
Prince was the only celebrity tragic death that I ever wept over. He was a very special person and truly a musical genius.

Not forgotten in my family. My sister and I both saw Prince during The Purple Rain tour, at 2 different venues. We were just talking about him in November. I just ordered the LP for my son.
He was in a suit with the record company
He could not release music under the moniker PRINCE, so he changed his name to the Logo/Symbol to release music away from the label
I saw this entire piece a couple years ago. And I must say, I adore everyone on this stage. Tom Petty, I will ❤️ him until the end of time. But Prince, y'all 👀. And the look on everyone else's face is just, awe! Nobody EVER wanted to follow Prince and now we know why.
Know what kills me? Everyone talks about his skill on guitar, but he played pretty much any other instrument JUST AS WELL. Picks up a bass? Funkiest shit you ever heard. Sits at the piano? Absolute maestro. I can play a few instruments, but it's just basic human skill. Prince was music made flesh.
That's no joke. I was in the service when this happened, and my mom wrote me a letter about it. Saw it years later and it blew my fckn MIND. Top five all time solos.
I was in the Navy, stationed in CA, and had the pleasure of seeing him as a person once. I believe when a celebrity is 'on' then it's okay to interact, but when they're on their own time, let them be. So I didn't interact with him as we passed, we just smiled, went our way.
Almost every musician I've known praises Prince as a musical genius, and almost every journalist who wrote about him when he was living started out with a stupid, insulting moniker about his height.
I read somewhere that prince told dhani he was gonna make him crack a smile cause the kid was feeling down and that part in the performance prince trust fell into security who propped him up for a few beats. You can see his hat in the corner of the pic. That's how he got him to grin ear to ear.
That’s pretty cool! I’ve watched this video a thousand times and didn’t notice until this most recent viewing and yep, they are standing just off stage.
I wish Prince and Tom Petty hadn't felt that their fans needed the acrobatics! I just appreciate the music. Then they wouldn't have hurt their bodies and ended their lives far too soon.
MPLS sound will always be remembered as originating from Prince. Dude left us way too soon. Had the honor to pay respects outside Paisley Park after his passing. What a heartfelt scene to experience.
The only thing better than the story of Prince playing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the story of Prince playing the Super Bowl Halftime Show during a hurricane.

Btw video cut at 59’’ was the first thing I noticed
Prince left us way too soon. 💜
Whole performance for people who haven't seen it, and for people who've watched it a hundred times:

Dhani Harrison seemed quite amused and awestruck with Prince’s performance.
"Motherfucker can play"...was the collective look.
Because even half as good as Prince is still better than most of us mortals can aspire to.
🥰
All because I needed to study for midterms that weekend.
I’ll never forgive myself.
What. A. Performance.

No, sir, we can not. But we like the way you think.
He answered ‘I don’t know, ask Prince’
I love this video of him and Cee-Lo covering Crazy. No major pyrotechnics, just in absolute service to the song. Damn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsTbh5GIilM
A generational talent

He was in a suit with the record company
He could not release music under the moniker PRINCE, so he changed his name to the Logo/Symbol to release music away from the label
