What happens next?
Carney will be invited to form a govt by the GG.
Carney will be the Prime Minister-designate during a transition period (could be really fast or a few days).
Once the transition is over, Trudeau formally resigns as Prime Minister, and Carney is appointed PM.

Good riddance.
Snake in the grass, and morally bankrupt (defending her genocidaire gramps)
And for the last year, among terrible polling, showing he could finish third, and his own MPs tying to get him to step aside he refused. Only Freeland resigning forced his hand
A non confidence vote would trigger a general election sooner, of course, but had he not started the process to resign on Jan 6 he probably could have gotten Singh on board to continue to support him, given current events.
Yes.
Also if unaware, Senators are appointed by the PM and not voted on by citizens or politicians. There can be under or over 100.
They are largely independent and not party affiliated.
Most remain independent last I saw, which is a good thing in grand scheme of things.

Ministries are tied to the Prime Minister, not the party.
So, the Trudeau government/ministry is ending, while the Carney government/ministry is starting.
Since the Prime Minister has full discretion over the composition of their Cabinet, the new ministry idea allows them to have a clean slate if they so choose.

It's very possible that the transition period will likely be to last a few weeks; parliament resumes, and once the transition period ends, a new election will be called.
I expect to see the election happen in April
It is a incredibly comprehensible summation bringing together things I knew, and so many that I was completely unaware.
So many.hah

This is precisely why the US has zero credibility and no business discussing Canada or its future.
