“I’ve never felt like a foreigner until now.” His friends and family members in a Georgia town voted for Donald Trump in support of mass deportation. Now he is scrambling to stay in the country.

It's wild how many liberals get high off their own moral superiority while simultaneously not understanding how to read and apply basic comprehension skills. Don't act like you're better than MAGA when you start doing the same stupid shit they do. It's giving Blue MAGA vibes.
So weird, Hitler had a thing called “deportation trains”. The US …,.”https://nbcmontana.com/news/nation-world/missouri-republican-proposes-bounty-hunter-program-to-report-illegal-migrants-david-gregory-gop-donald-trump-homan-immigrants-border-migration-mexico-st-louis-kansas-city-columbia
The guy who said he'd deport people after calling them insulting names for years, yet people still vote because they didn't believe he'd do it. He didn't say it for jokes and giggles, the FAFO term is going to be quite a historic learning event for many.
@nytimes.com Fuck You. You sanewashed tRump the demented, racist, rapist, grifting, shits his pants on stage LITERALLY, con man, felon the entire election. Now you’re gonna try’n make money about people that he hurts. Why have you done this to Americans? Fuck You.
They endorsed Kamala while the LA Times and Bezos WaPo refused to print their already drafted endorsements. They have exposed the court only secondly to Pro Publica. You can’t be a regular reader if this is your opinion.
That came out more harshly than I intended. I still have the mentality that people (MAGAz) don’t read or watch anything they don’t understand or agree with, I have 2 stop carrying it around with me. This space is abt freely voicing opinions without nastiness. I was a daily reader of the Times 4 yrs.
have some bad news for you about who owns the NYT. true, nepotism-baby AG Sulzberger is “only” worth hundreds of millions, but i don’t think the relative poverty has improved his character
Nope. The day I read the NYT piece about Nazis being good neighbors was the day I understood the NYT is just the Ministry of Truth. And I cancelled my subscription. They can be the orange fascist's media arm all they like, but I won't be reading anything they put out ever again.
That’s your prerogative, we are all entitled to our opinions. Mine is a bit different, but I also cancelled my subscription right before the election when it reverted to full price.
I based my cancellation on principle. You based yours on price. We are not the same.
The sanewashing by the NYT has been happening for years and I don't tolerate the intolerable, but maybe it's bc I'm not white, so feel differently about the propaganda the NYT spews.
Nope, I also based it upon articles I thought were sane washing the idiot. I wasn’t going to pay full price to read the crap I sometimes saw, I won’t enable it with my money.
@paul
Yes, the FiL voted for Trump (and from the article, he's a classic MAGA). Lots of innocent people are going to be hurt. This guy should take his kids and wife and cut ties w/ the FiL. He'll be better off
And yet I still feel bad for him. I do have the sense of that’s what you get. But from his point of view the betrayal must really suck. Hopefully this is a moment of reflection and change for him.
As a Texan I predicted this would happen. It’s all on them.
And it’s a shame that the New York Times didn’t have more honest reporting before the election. It won’t be long before Trump comes after your reporters if you don’t bend the knee to him.
It’s already happening.
It’s over for men like Jamie. White folk in MAGA land (and the fucking prayer for our “open” borders?) makes me ill. It’s the ignorance and the lack of understanding about the details that gets me. To them, it’s the woke, never their family.
His FIL voted for Trump. He didn’t, he’s undocumented & can’t. He’s trying to get citizenship but it’s a long & expensive legal process. His wife didn’t vote trump. His MIL didn’t. Most of his community did, but like his FIL, say they didn’t mean HIM, just the “bad criminals”.
I feel bad for Jaime Cachua. Despite what his family & friends who voted for Trump say, they voted for him to be deported. They can claim otherwise but that’s reality. When he says Rome, GA is “complicated” it’s really not.
1/2: These are lies people tell themselves. They always have been.
A hundred years ago, this guy would be saying "It's about protecting the sanctity, health, and morals of BOTH races. We need to shut down race-mixing ...
2/2: It's not about you." to the son of the black lady who looked after him when he was a kid, who he considers almost a second mother, to justify Jim Crow and lynching.
I’m old enough to remember a time when I could go on virtually any social media platform for more than 5 minutes without getting immediately sad or
depressed. No longer.
“…but he’s not actually coming after people like you. Nobody’s putting you on a bus unless they get by me.” If/when mass deportation begins do they really think the approach won’t be to grab anyone who looks “illegal” and sort it out later, if at all?
What an ignorant scumbag the FIL is. Jaime is a bigger person than I, Sky would not be allowed near my children, he clearly has no respect or regard for their safety and well being. What a heartbreaking story
You DO know that deportations under Biden have far exceeded Trump's totals, & that this is taking place right now under Biden, but sure, NYT, keep lying.
No, but he will be worse at managing it, which may, as was the case under his previous regime, result in more push back from local & state authorities.
Is there any other proof needed that most people who voted for Trump voted for hate and dishonest propaganda instead of their own self interests? You vote for hate and nastiness and racism and you get heartless, bad economic policies that will hurt us all, including the people who are deported.
The ridiculous thing is 'If they want to put you on a bus they'll have to go through me.' Dude, they'll have no trouble going through you. They'll march right over you. They'll label you 'woke' and shout you down.
He’s gaslighting him. 1 of their neighbors is going to call ice, the dads going to move out the way and say “It’s nothing I can do, it’s the law”. he will convince his daughter not to leave and take her kids to live in a third world country. It will be think of the kids… never trust Trump supporters
Two weeks later, nobody other than his wife and children will ever even mention his name.
The lucky ones will get deported. Eventually the camps get over crowded, and someone decides that 'things were always going to head this way anyways'. The path to gas chambers is not as long as you'd think.
I feel you. We don’t have gas chambers here and I doubt we will. Things can get bad enough without them it doesn’t have to be an exact replica of what Hitler did..
In California, we had a proposition on our latest ballot to make all slavery illegal, including the enslavement of prisoners, which is legal and commonly done. The prop didn’t pass, which is awful.
Private prison corps are celebrating. Detained immigrants will likely be enslaved nationwide.
They don’t need woke. They’ll bust down the door in the middle of the night and pluck you right out. Welcome to the military state, no better than what happened to Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar.
Never understood why some vote against their own interests. A white family living in a trailer trying to survive on less than min wage, government assistance, doesn't have medical, 401k, etc. votes for a party that wants to cut wages, SSI, welfare, ACA/ObamaCare, overtime pay, etc. it's brainwashing
Ignorance🧐1st immigrants can’t vote 😤the gullibility of many that lack the knowledge of the truth are led by lies and fabrications of the truth🤯For those that vote against their own self interest let’s hope the education system will prevail to inform their future generations of fact not fiction🤔
Honestly?
What did they think monster Trump would do?
Why would they think it's ok to vote for a man who's a known criminal and who says all kinds of cruel, lying things?
How much more empathy can people who've fought for this man and his family's rights have when he has enabled autocracy?
This man's a victim of his family's breathtaking ignorance. Many voters didn't bother to inform themselves as to what would happen if they re-elected a psychopathic anti-worker wannabe dictator who wants to deport immigrants --even naturalized citizens (except his own wife and Elon Musk).
Except that the people being threatened were Jews and they, for the most part, were wealthy and well connected so they could afford to leave and/or hide.
Jesus Christ right? They may not have intended it, but that sounds VERY anti-Semitic. “Those Jews have a lot of money and connections and can get themselves out of jams because of it.”
No what YOUR not going to do is police my comment. I said what I said. Selling yourself out to fit in with people who DO NOT LIKE YOU is always a bad move. This exactly what we have been saying to Latinos and Blacks for TRUMP and it applies here. Move along
Did they do it purposely? The way the article reads (giving too much credit to trumpf and touting his win % in Appalachia) his family knowingly voted for their son in law to go.
If he's lived in the South for any length of time, he knew. AND we don't know how the in-laws accepted their white daughter being with a brown person anyway. They may be excited at the prospect. My mother lives in Alabama. I recently moved from Las Vegas to Bama to care for her.
This area and im sure also in GA has been inundated with migrants from Mexico and Haiti. THEY ARE NOT OK with it. I dont trust any of it. I don't discuss my feelings abt the world or politics here. I keep things simple and surface level w/ these ppl. I don't even socialize.
I want to keep them out of my "house." My mother is so disconnected now. She has no faith in anything since trump was reelected. 89 yrs old and having to feel like that. It's so upsetting to me. If you're an at risk person u dont need to be living in a place like this.
I know I shouldn't gloat. However, the devil in my head keeps telling me that I really want to see:
- Latinos who voted for Trump deported
- Old people and veterans who voted for Trump losing their benefits
- Ladies who voted for Trump crying in the parking lot after being denied healthcare
...
After how much the Latino population moved towards Trump every election since 2016, I’m kind of done with caring about immigration. The guy built his entire appeal on demonizing your community & yet you thought by collaborating w/ MAGA, you’d get a pass? Good luck w/ everything coming your way.
They are just like all Trump supporters… selfish as fuck. They will say nice things to save face but the truth is they don’t give AF what happens to him. Their actions show that. He’s not one of them at the end of the day
Brexit was the same thing. Stupid voters that don’t think, & then they are sorry for the way they voted. In my opinion Brexit set the UK economy back by 10 years.
One thing is known… all Conservative Parties trick voters into supporting them.
There is no shortage of stupid voters in this world!
I’ll never forget the slap in the face it was when I found out my closest friend had voted Leave, even though he knew Brexit would have a direct, and pretty disastrous, effect on me.
Marrying a US citizen doesn’t automatically make you eligible. People in general think our immigration laws are more straightforward and fair than they actually are.
Can’t read because of the paywall, but probably an illegal entry. He’d have to leave the US to apply for a green card at a consulate BUT leaving the US would trigger a 10 year bar on returning.
At least that’s the most common explanation for long-term citizen/ no status marriages
The comments here are simply off.
The center of this tragedy is a dreamer. He didn’t vote for anything.
He may “FO” - because of others.
And yes, many of them are friends and family who knew his story but believed he’s safe as he’s “one of the good ones” but fear too much, too easily.
Right? I can’t tell if I’m blocking people for commenting without reading (but it’s right in the headline) or for being racist (lots of “ha ha Hispanic Trump voters are going to find out” (he *didn’t vote for Trump*), but either way lots of blocking going on
Right?! I am very annoyed at the comments who did not read the article. This man voted for nobody because he CANNOT VOTE. His community betrayed him. He did nothing wrong.
The worsening political scenario on a global scale strongly suggests that psychotronic technologies are being used by advocates of global anticultism. To gain more insight, watch the documentary "The Impact"
I would NEVER date someone who had MAGA parents and they still kept in touch with them. They couldn’t come to my house nor watch my children. Nope nope nope
It seems to me that many Hispanics/ Mexicans are like crabs in a bucket, pulling each other down; otherwise, they would have voted for the democrat. Hope that those who voted republican and see themselves as Caucasian, boy are they in for a surprise.
Do you people feel any guilt? Any remorse? You are one of the many reasons why this is happening. Your articles normalizing Trump and quite frankly, un-normalizing Harris, were ridiculous and yet convincing to those who aren't online like us, to see people call out your bullsh*t.
You play with lives
FYI - This is not a story about Latinos who voted for Trump; this is about a Latino man’s white-in-laws. He lives in MTG’s district in Georgia. The family who voted for Trump are his wife’s relatives. The undocumented guy in the story was brought over to the U.S. when he was 10-months old.
Grandpa won't be able to take his Go Bag when he visits His Grand Children in Mexico. We're Paying to Build Industry in this Fanatic Region... Who's going to Work there?
This is why, when you fill out paperwork at Dr’s offices in Texas, you must certify that you are white (non Hispanic). Many, like Danny Tarrio, are WS who don’t want people from their country of descent to immigrate to the US.
I'm sorry, but seriously. Did they think T wasn't serious about deportations? Did they think he would overlook them when the deportations start? I don't understand why people vote against their own self preservation.
She's got the Go Fund Me under her daughter's name. If you click on the 2 comments on her first post (MASS DEPORTATIONS) you'll see a link to the article about Jaime (and the heinous FIL) and the 2nd link is to the Go Fund Me because now they need $$$$.
Reminds me of this woman! Wife voted for trump & deportations, then husband got deported & she was all, "No! But he has KIDS and a BUSINESS!" She/kids moved to Mexico where she homeschools 'cuz she fears her kids will be targets for being Americans.
Absolutely zero f**ks for these guys…..u voted x the 🍊 nightmare while not caring for those families who might be separated and deported?…… again, from the bottom of my 💙, F** right off!
His family was either misinformed or is dumb as fuck to vote for Trump. put i
I do not celelebrate suffering. I am sorry for him and for the others who will suffer #Trump's policies.
But as #FatJoe put it in November : "My latinos, where is your pride ?" 🤦♂️
No the fuck they are not. They are to the left of conservatives, but that does not make them a part of it. The main American liberal party (Dems) has made it very clear that they'd much more happily work with centrist conservatives and undecideds and than leftists to achieve their goals
Technically but clearly not ideologically. These people under the “liberal” classification have the same empathy level as MAGA. Blue MAGA. Plus they clearly didn’t read the article or they’d see that white people betrayed this guy.
The Dems exclusively focusing on Dobbs and not being Trump wasn’t very appealing to communities that tend to be socially conservative. You can’t take anything for granted. They were naive, but Democrats should have done more to win the votes of socially conservative, but marginalized communities.
The minute we feel sorry is not going to go back to the minute of you “not listening” to us!
I may feel sad as a human but I have no more tolerance for ignorance anymore!
Hating strangers is a waste of time and energy. Disdain and resentment is less trouble but still harms me and doesn’t affect them at all. (Btw it was only the father-in-law.)
Nobody enjoys it. But seeing the consequences of voting for Trump is the ONLY way to fix it for the future. Mass deportation is not the only consequence coming either. As someone who will also feel the impact of his presidency, bring it on 🤷♀️
The undocumented man didn’t vote for anyone. He can’t vote. His father in law to the disgust of his daughter & wife voted for Trump. Maybe he was trying to get rid of his immigrant son-in-law. He may end losing his daughter & grandkids too if they elect to go with him if he’s deported.
The FIL is such a stereotype. “Get those illegals out! But wait, he’s a good one.”
The incoming administration does not care. It does not care he’s your son-in-law, works hard, goes to church. The FIL is scared of his own damn shadow because of right wing bullsh*t.
Hope it hurts.
We're all going to suffer as a result of this new insane administration.
May those who voted for it suffer just as much.
May the leopard eat their face too.
Rome is my hometown. I don’t know this family personally, but I know so many just like them. There is such a sense of white entitlement that people honestly believe that none of this will affect them or anyone they love. It’s like,“Trump wouldn’t possibly come after OUR loved one’s!! We are White!”
I have drawn my line in the sand. Although I think that literally anyone who takes the trouble to make it to the USA should be welcomed with open arms... If I ever come across any MAGA contacts with undocumented family, I will make it my mission to contact ICE and have their family deported. FAFO.
This person’s father in law abs neighbors voted for Trump. He did not. He is undocumented. He cannot vote. Why are you speaking of him as if he brought this upon himself?
These people are delusional. They actually believe Trump cares about them. They honestly act like they have a personal relationship with the guy. It's scary how many people there is out there like this.
People wonder why so many who opposed the orange menace have disengaged. For me, I feel I can only sit by and watch the inevitable implosion slowly unfold. And so it begins.
His father in law cares about him so much that putting his life and safety on the line didn’t really matter as much as the price of a dozen eggs? Real family values there.
14 out of 18 border counties in TX went for Trump for the 1st time in decades in many cases because they didn’t believe Trump would really deport their friends & family members, ordinary people who have lived openly in the shadows for yrs. Mi anor, say adios. And remember, you voted for this.
The shitrag called nyt, decides to cover the magat impact on real people in America.
Fuck you, nyt. First, you sane wash trump. Now, you're LATE to the story. Glad I canceled my subscription. Fuck you. You're just another corporate rag.
I have no sympathy for this man. I hate he fears being deported but what was him and his family thinking. Have they never seen Steve Miller on tv. Or
Did they not watch any of trump’s speeches or interviews.
Trying to understand what you mean here. Why no sympathy for Jaime? What do you mean by asking what he was thinking? He can’t vote as a DACA/Dreamer and doesn’t sound like he would’ve ever voted for Trump had he been able to.
The article said his family and friends voted for trump. I have no idea what his citizenship status is from the post. That we where I was coming from. How could they have voted for trump and not know it would affect him.
That’s the point of the article - how he is trying to deal with his own family and friends being stupid enough to vote for Trump, even though they support him. He’s trying to get his FIL to see the ramifications of his vote. He was brought here at age 5 illegally & and is trying to gain citizenship.
“I didn’t read the article”. But you and everyone else still decided to comment on something you didn’t read, and write some horrifyingly shitty and unkind comments.
Why can’t America figure out how to expedite a process for citizenship to those with DACA status? The subject of this article is obviously worthy of citizenship. Come on Congress, make this happen! Even those who want extreme measures towards immigration can’t possibly believe that this is OK.

Hard to have any sympathy for self inflicted wounds especially when Their choices negatively affect this entire world
Too angry still
Elections have consequences
So does stupidity
Maybe next time they’ll vote using intelligence vs ego’s willful ignorance

Sorry, I wish I could find the empathy or compassion but I can’t.
Tots and pears

They FA, and now they are finding out.
Honestly, I hope they get deported, if only to learn their lesson.
they help elect trumpf, then shit on the fact he was elected. hard not to feel conflicted. kinda have mixed feelings about the Times.
it's like watching trumpf's limo sail into the Grand Canyon with a kilo of Jack Herer in the trunk. *
