first, cute, i love him. second, strange question- do you have to drain/scrub the pool or clean it in any special way after it's visited by a bear? does he leave behind fuzz or bits of poops or rotting food from his claws, or is he pretty tidy about it? it would be worth it, just curious

definitely fuzz. the filter plus sweeping seems to get it all eventually, though when he is visiting frequently it definitely struggles. also he likes to bite the vacuum hoses, which makes them work less well (we bought pool toys for him for next summer in case he returns)

definitely more likely to show up on a hot day, but time of day is pretty variable. and he doesn't always swim. sometimes just gives the trash cans a test and moves on.

Apologies, but you triggered my nerdy dad instinct, so please *bear* with me! Black bears can be many different colors, including brown. They’re usually pretty skittish around people.

Grizzly bears are much bigger and more threatening.Around Alaska, grizzly bears are sometimes called brown bears.

Touché, but I’ve literally never seen one like that up close in the wild—reds are outback ones, and roos usually bounce away well before you get near enough for them to beat you up! (altho there is one at the nearest wildlife park who is notorious for knocking over baby strollers to steal food)
