"Cycling is not a practical daily travel option for most people."
In 2022, 26% of car trips in the UK were shorter than 1 mile, and 71% were under 5 miles.
A 5-mile bike ride takes around 30 minutes.

I have been doing it at least decade now. Its 2025!
It's the old granny/sick dog/fridge scenario again isn't it.

Do all these people only go once a week and not at any other time?
Every time I go, I see people with just a couple of things.
Again it's not about swapping every trip from driving. Just some.
- shop more frequently (it's only a short distance away)
- take a family member to carry some of the shopping
- use a shopping trolley
- use a cargo bike
Also no one has every said switch ALL trips, apart from those unwilling to switch even one and want an excuse
Walk the kid to school and back every day, for example. Would be great if there was a store on the way, but no.
Also safer bike storage at the supermarkets and other shops. I can't think of anywhere I would leave a locked bike in my town. Even CCTV doesn't stop thieves.
*other folding bike makes are available of course
then 15 if you go for it
10 minutes if you are my wife in race gear, lol

Car is ~55-70 min + 5 min walk from affordable parking. Cost of train is less than cost of parking so save $2-6 there + car opex.
Bike to metro station 2min
Metro to main station 15min
Train 30 min
Bike across town 6 min.
Also train is cheaper when I include parking costs.
I generally cycle to it though. This takes 8 minutes, but you have to be a confident cyclist due to no infrastructure.
Had an acquaintance who would drive down two blocks to the train station as well 🙄
It’s all about the bike lanes and vibrant neighborhoods

We bought a cheaper version of this (cheaper bag and wheels) nearly a decade ago and it’s brilliant. With a bag in the other hand will do a weeks shop (& monthlyish delivery for bulky/storecupboard stuff).
My Grans had them back in the 60s.
Very different to cheap trolleys.
And total task time (ie shopping) is much longer.
Cycling detriment: exercise (if you don’t want it).
Walking 600 m's
Cycling 800 m's
Driving 2400 m's
Problem is infrastructure for bicycles. During covid big cities took advantage and created lots of bike lanes. Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and Utrecht really invested. And see a big uptake in mileage covered in/by bicycles.
Thats embarrassing.
