He actually did, it just unfortunately didn't make a lot of the news. Francis defrocked a bunch of men within the Church and booted them out, which leaves them at the mercy of local law enforcement. The main trick the RCC used to do was cycling those guys out to Alaska or some other remote posting.

You know, I think it's really important to analyze what figures like this represent as much as it is who they actually are. For instance, FDR did a lot of horrible things, but I really think he's a great symbol for the importance of welfare and solving multiple problems in society at once

my folks are Catholic and my mom was reading about Francis after he passed as part of what she’s doing for lent, and she was v excited to tell me (bc I’m trans) that Francis was more open towards lgbt people. obv he wasn’t perfect but he brought out inspired acts of allyship in others.

He was a Jesuit who worked in Latin America and was fairly sympathetic to liberation theology. That's pretty much the best you can get in the Catholic Church.
