I for one am excited for TikTok to show me a splashy "The US GOVERNMENT HAS DESTROYED EVERYTHING YOU LOVE" screen when I open the app next week followed by Donald Trump crawling through glass to get it back because it helped get him elected thus solidifying him as a HERO OF THE EVERYDAY AMERICAN.

JUST DO STUFF FOR THE REASONS THAT GO WITH IT.
We ain’t free. We never were. And we won’t be free until we stop demanding the ability to look down on and torment others.
Oh oops, spoilers😅
I'd wager if everyone voted hed have lost the popular vote by massive margins. I don't know whether it'd change the electoral college, but that's a different topic
I was trying to imagine what that might be and why they wouldn't just tell us. Most likely it is that our gov is doing the same thing, what ever it is.
What is it? Best guess, location tracking, like Google maps uses but with PPI tagged to it. Might also be passive recording while the app is open that skirts phone permissions.
Something is actually up.
Didn't Congress BREAK THEIR OATHS by certifying him?
He does not have immunity from the Constitution.
Every avenue to prevent Trump from holding office due to the insurrection has failed. It's sad to see.
No one tested it or had a press conference or even conscientiously objectived.
Business as usual as if everything is normal.
It's seems....no it
IS bizarre.
So why ban tiktok instead of improving privacy laws
I'm glad our military protection allows your government to invest in social services and properly funded government organizations more than the military.
I'd prefer less military tbh.

Also don't assume nationalities based on the spellings.
I want better technology and privacy literacy.
I don't want the government to choose winners and losers.
I especially don't want my government to choose privacy standards they might have a backdoor to.
I don't want a consolidation of sensitive data online.
I'm sure you have some pride in your country and I'm sure your country has its own flaws it needs to figure out.
Don't be shitty😉
The amendment should not have been approved, but without it, the bill had no path out of the House.
Either it's wrong, or it's not.
They are, by far, not our biggest enemy, that would be ourselves.
Kinda funny you rage against liberals when you have no idea of what is going on either.
People are mad they're losing their drug of choice. They'll get over it.
That is not mutually exclusive from the fact that Tiktok is addicting people and affecting brain chemistry, and that people are going to be fine without it if it dies.
Right now, kids are learning the most wild untrue shit from TikTok. There are posts about it daily on teachers' forums. It is a *problem.* Once we fix this we can worry about the others
That's also not the argument for why they're banning the app.
This is just taking one dealer off the street. It does not address the problem, it only inconveniences people and pisses them off
I thought people left these dumb arguments on Twitter but I guess you found your way to make stupid points here too.
Good talk.
"Dozens of platforms"
just "carry your following"
It's fucking laughably diminutive and frankly incredibly insulting to the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of creators who've BEEN doing this fucking tapdance for years now
If someone can be trusted to drive a car, they can be trusted to decide for themselves whether or not to spend time browsing Tiktok.

Have we forgotten the Chinese gov't built a network of concentration camps for 1M Uyghurs? (Muslim minority group.) Or the forced organ harvesting of prisoners?
Don't have to think the US is a pillar of virtue to get what the Chinese gov't is about.
But what IS substantiated is the US concentration camps, our long history of ACTUAL genocide. Our Imperialism.
It is verified—we have the sattelite photos of the concentration camps
Take the inverse, should China allow Instagram or Twitter?
Should there be a reciprocal agreement between the two?
Seems like that's not really what these people care about.
It’s interesting to me to also watch people lament Russian influence via FB/Twitter but then die on the hill of TikTok being necessary. It begs the question, do they only hate foreign influence when they don’t have a vested interest e.g. large followings on TikTok?
If for example, we decided as a species that in order to get a seat at the table, you have to respect the human rights we're all entitled to, that seems reasonable if consistently applied
Then he'd REALLY be the biggest! Do it Don!
Use every opportunity to promote less toxic social media platforms.

Well not one country. Dozens of them.
Including the United States of emergency.
If TikTok wants his attention, they'll need to find him a grift. I think some kind of partnership with Truth Social might do it.

They didn't forget, they just don't care.
same thing happens on every social media and twitch chats.(bots are not here yet.)
it smells like a bot.
Bluesky is doing a good job so far. they don't let those seed accounts grow.
Eventually they will try new things and break through.
