We briefly had a pet echidna as children. We put him into a disused chook pen. He dug a hole under the fence, ate a few of our pet lizards and departed.
It escaped, ate my pet chook and got captured by the local Police after terrorising the nearby Ladies afternoon doubles tennis match by climbing up the wire enclosure from a bamboo thicket.
My father had acquired it from a Snake Dancer while he was in the RAAF based at Williamstown! He had transported it back to home in Greenacre on the train, under his greatcoat, coiled around his body! It's head appeared out of his coat sleeve much to the fright of the girl sitting opposite!
I've had a Harry Butler day. Rescued the fig tree from a Crimson Rosella (or Vicky Versa) and a DropTail Skink from the living room.
Anyway -all survived!
Love how your garden has lots of places for ants and bugs for the echidna to eat too. In my garden there's a large area under some shrubs that's been left wild with sticks, leaves and other detritus to encourage native animals.
Oh gosh, we have hundreds of birds that visit us. It’s likely a wren or a spotted pardalote as they both have nests in that area of our property. I’m no birder though so can’t distinguish the calls.
Oh for sure! Platypus is right up there too so maybe it’s a monotreme thing. We have Musk Lorikeets that visit us too but the cheeky King Parrot families that perch on our deck are always a highlight.
