Gonna let you in on a little secret here, but most people don't want to see the thing they use disrupted, it's kinda offputting. PC gaming in particular has an in-built skepticism of new storefronts/services because of stuff like Desura and Games for Windows Live, as opposed to what works.

Almost like a past life 💀
The only reason anyone uses Epic Games is because it has one of the most popular games of all time on it, not because it's a good storefront.
- Cancelled hero shooter MOBA
- MMORPG
- MMORPG
They're chasing the big moneymaking trends rather than cultivating studios with strong releases people don't have to invest thousands of hours into.
I completely forgot about them.
Yikes.
Yknow, as opposed to making a good competitive product like some sort of rube
All they've really done is sit on bare bones marketplaces and sign timed exclusivity deals, which people still just wait for the Steam releases of.
Absolute clown show...
Maybe chasing short-term growth is incompatible with getting users to trust you.
My gold standart in 'disrupting' the gaming market.
One reason I always get on gog when I can.
I assume not, 'cause I probably would've heard about it, but who knows.
Companies faced with making a good product to succeed, dramatized, 1999
instead of
"providing what our target markets have asked for in market research groups"
or even
"being innovative and the premiere gaming destination like gamers have never seen before"
Finite and Infinite games here folks. One values shareholders above all.
Well, that and "Monopoly".
I wonder if Bezos uses an app to force-choke executives who fail to meet benchmarks or if he prefers a more "hands-on" approach.
It has to be Car -v- Horse, Lightbulb -v- Kerosene lamp
Where you're only going back for fun, or if the world ends.
But they’d rather build a clunky experience that tries to get you to subscribe to prime.
Just give me a storefront with a good UX and no crap.
Steam was disruptive because it created (or, at least, heavily popularized) a way of using and buying games. The Wii was disruptive because it served a casual audience that Sony and Microsoft had abandoned. /1
Disruption is about changing a market by making something new that meets a demand that others aren't (or don't even know exists). But all these C-level execs see is a new buzzword and $$$. /2
Ungodly amounts of money put in to copy something successful instead of trying something new. And, as you said, people hate that. /3
which was.... 📝
twitch drops?
stadia clone?
discounts?
in house games that had antiquated client side security that was easily beaten?
Didn't even meet funcitonality parity with EGS or Windows Store?
Any time a corporation tries to "disrupt" PC gaming, it's always been about trying to separate money from the masses for the least amount of effort.
