we have these pseudo roundabouts that are just basically big planters thrown into the middle of former 4-way stops. so it just throws cars into the bike lane. super fun looking over my shoulder every block to make sure a car isn't fucking clueless & gonna just hit me!
Haha. I love roundabouts! When my kids were younger, I would always go around an extra time. After a couple years of this, we would be approaching the roundabout, and they would be begging me from the back seat not to do it!
You must be from Texas. They started adding roundabouts in TX a few years ago and people still pull up to them and stop. I imagine them being appalled by me as a barely slowdown for them.
But to be serious for a minute, once you educate people, roundabouts are demonstrably safer (any collisions tend to produce less injury than the typical crossroad collisions) and for those still driving gas fueled cars you save on gas and emissions. So there’s that…
We are contracted thru to help Wally World get groceries. And some of the "nicer area" ones they have these to get into their stores. Not designed for Semis, but yet want the goods. Some don't have an actual truck entrance, and we have to use those to get into the lot to deliver.
Honestly, we had one here at t/end of a bridge, & it sucked so bad! People tryin to shift gears manually…stalled out & would back up traffic to t/Beach!
In New Jersey they’re traffic circles. Use the term in Massachusetts, they don’t understand what you’re talking about because they call them roundabouts. In Rhode Island, people try to make a left turn into the circle, because that’s the way they always made the turn
Wait, there’s more. In New Jersey, traffic IN the circle had to yield right of way to traffic COMING INTO the circle. You can imagine how well that worked.
Oh, I could go on for hours about traffic- or train schedules, or cheese… what stories I could tell you about cheese…

Simple rule of thumb.
