Dan Quayle got more grief for spelling "potato" wrong than JD Vance is getting for spreading a wildly racist fake post about immigrants eating people's pets

Quayle was a decent guy and got caught being a stupid guy.
JV is neither. He's a well placed asset to those that know tRump is unwell and want to promote Project 2025, aka The Nazi Playbook in case the orange dipshit strokes out.
I went down a rabbit hole with this the other day because of someone’s post here and I learned it was WAY stupider and intentionally taken out of context than I ever knew.
Spelling is something polite they knew their upscale readers/viewers could chuckle at.
Once the POTUS and VP nominee were spewing content indistinguishable from the most putrid sewers of the far right the corporates basically said oh dear that will just upset people let's talk about something else.
I have so far just seen "eaten," but since some of these people think rich white people are ritually sacrificing children to harvet adrenochrome, I'm sure there are or soon will be people accusing Haitians of sacrificing pets in voodoo rituals.
obviously not the point, but, he also didn’t even spell it wrong, he unnecessarily corrected some kid’s acceptable spelling with a different acceptable spelling.
Well, that was 30 plus years ago. In a post-truth world, Quayle’s misspelling would barely make a blip on the radar…besides it’d probably be treated as factual.
Dan Quayle doesn't get enough grief for being a vulture capitalist who is currently (!!) bankrupting previously-nonprofit hospitals for the hedge fund Cerberus Capital Management and pocketing the proceeds
My idea was to have Howard Dean come out at the DNC and run a supercut of all the batshit crazy stuff the Rs have done that should've torpedoed the career of any politician. Start with his howl, and then go to the ACTUAL nutzo stuff.
Maybe I'm coping but it is nice to see them flatout calling it false in their headlines. That honestly seems like a step up from how they treated Trump during his first presidency (and early in his campaign).
Not telling you anything you don’t know, but…Trump called for “bloody” mass deportations this past weekend. The RNC had pre-made signs for it. The crazy bigoted shit coming from Vance & others in the GOP is part of that same ugly position, not a weird sideshow. https://bsky.app/profile/chadstanton.bsky.social/post/3l3qhyt2qeb2x

And, he was a girl.

Almost
Natural that the two incidents will trend differently.
Such a weird thing to doom someone's career prospects

Quayle was reading off of a card with the wrong spelling on it, but even so he would have recognized the error if he'd been the book-readin' type
The only thing that I know *for certain* about the future is that it has not happened yet.
[Insert Alf joke about eating cats to harken back to early days of BlueSky].
Vance has had a head start
