I have never been a Movie Person (I was raised in a books and music household, sorry!) but I’ve been working on filling in my blind spots. I want to watch more this year so I downloaded Letterboxd and I…have no idea how you guys rate movies? Like everything I watch is “huh, pretty good, I liked it”
Comments
The last film I watched was “The Midnight Sky” and it got a “D”. And I love George Clooney.
Shrek 1 is great, Shrek 2 is a masterclass in animated film, and a perfect sequel.
I take Thumper’s approach with Shrek 3. Thankfully the fourth one ends the series on a high note.
Entertaining & Not-Entertaining.
★ Trash ★★ Watchable ★★★ Good ★★★★ Great ★★★★★ All Timer
It's a great place to start your love of old movies.
(I’m the same way with movies. I spent over 90 minutes doing this? Pretty good!)
Bitchy Cardinals? Is this a Tony La Russa biopic, or….
To compare movies to each other I put them all in a list. It's much easier to see "well this movie is better than X but worse than Z" https://letterboxd.com/rockdog85/list/everything-ive-tracked-ranked/
like, for instance, Harper from 1966
a running joke btw my wife and I for 25 years
some of us are nerds obsessed with the dramatic structure, pacing, composition and blocking and cuts, but we're like that bc that's the part we enjoy, so still, it's the same in the end.
movies are for watching. period.
Try some classic films like Casablanca and Sunset Boulevard (B&W, noir) … Philadelphia Story and To Kill A Mockingbird (Gregory Peck) … and distinguish between film (classic novel) and movie (best seller). What kind of books do you like?
Once , you have figured that part, then it will be easier to find people helping you.
It makes me think of how I've been dipping my toe into KPop, I've found some bands I like, accepted that I don't have much to compare them to, but I'm figuring out what appeals to me...
⭐️ good
⭐️⭐️ very good
⭐️⭐️⭐️ unforgettable
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the best, if on tv, would HAVE to watch to the end.
Most movies are zero stars.
I frequently revisit my ratings in comparison to others. I wish I had 10 stars. But I’m glad I don’t
And if you’re a book person make a list of the books you’ve read put it up here and you will get 100 million recommendations for movies that are kind of like that book
