By Design, if they catch fire and power is lost, the doors lock and you have to know how to manually open them. The Cyber truck is not just ugly it’s deadly.
Why "by design" would they do that? Would it not make more sense to "by design" make them unlock in such a situation?
Who the fuck would allow this to be so?
That is the important question.
We know who, Musk Rat Elon, he feels people will know how to get out. Who would force them to change it? I believe he fired those people or will shortly.
A high speed car crash with intoxicated and high driver and passengers into a concrete wall and the doors wouldn’t open. Bet 9 out of 10 car models would have the same problem. Go fish somewhere else
It’s is such a perfect physical metaphor for these right wing guys’ self regard. Hyped through the roof as the Superman of cars and priced like a Mercedes but the accelerator pedals and side panels fall off and the doors won’t open as it spontaneously explodes while self driving into a bus
If the side panels had fallen off, these kids might have lived. The failure to have mechanical, rather than electric, door handles, on a potential coffin that moves at 100mph seems insane to me. But I’m not a car manufacturer
The question from there is why the doors wouldn't open. Was the frame damaged so badly the doors were crushed, or was it merely a systems/electronics issue?
It’s an overall design issue. The TESLA cyber truck is a POS and a monstrosity. Industrial designers will be pointing its way with distain for centuries.
tesla doors are opened by electronic buttons; when they lose power they have to be opened by manual releases which are often hard to locate. in cybertrucks and some of the sedans, you have to pry off a nondescript piece of plastic trim to access the pull cable releases for the back doors.
I've googled around and looked at the manual and can't find any info on if a cybertruck can be opened from the outside without power. anyway these things are literal deathtraps and should be illegal
It’s ok, Palemales get to rape, kill, exploit, do whatever. It’s their fiefdom and we just exist to serve them (That is sarcasm, except it isn’t funny because that’s what they really think).
I hate that Uber has a contract with Tesla, and they rent Teslas to their drivers. Frankly, where I live, I think the only Teslas on the road are rented by Uber drivers. I wish there was a way to filter them out. I don't want to be driven in a Tesla. Luckily, that seems to have changed recently.
Before January 2025, at least half of my Uber rides were in a Tesla. I started canceling rides immediately if the car was a Tesla. Sometimes I'd have to cancel 3-4 times before getting a different car. Now, for the first time, I'm not seeing Teslas. It's a relief. I hope Uber stops using Tesla.
Criminal that there aren’t solid mechanical linkages between inside handles and locking mechanism. And the glass is almost unbreakable too, so it would be hard to get out that way. Totally unsafe.
Ugly ass pieces of shit!! They are the most unsafe car on the road, but leon wont be accountable because they fired everybody that would be doing that! Keep up the boycott and the protesting!
Don't you think it is weird that Mitch McConnell's sister-in-law died in her Tesla, all drunk, couldn't open the doors and drowned, and no one talks about it?
Coroner said she had a BAC of 0.233, which is extremely drunk, so I’m not surprised she couldn’t figure out the doors. Hard to say if she’d done better in a normal car, as that is extremely drunk.
Rich person gets very drunk, drives, and dies is really not that remarkable a sequence of events tbh.
I thought for SURE her sister would have called in a favor to #CCP to have that "handled." Also, she was driving on private property, not breaking any laws she didn't deserve to die that way. I don't care what her BAC was. That is a horrible way to die. Plenty of sober people die trapped in Teslas.
FYI for those who don't know- This same issue (doors autolocking/not opening after a crash and trapping/burning people inside alive) has happened over 100 times on multiple different Tesla models. It has been happening for the past 8 years. Merrick Garland/Biden DOJ did nothing
My partner is a volunteer firefighter and they’ve been aware of this issue and others for years now. Extraction & fire suppression for these vehicles require different tools, and small departments can’t really afford those. Drive at your own risk 😬
The cybertruck shares this particular problem (doors that can't be opened from outside at all, and barely from the inside) with every other Tesla (their older cars are even worse on this issue than the newer ones). And I think those other Teslas, even the older ones, are legal in Europe.
If we had a functioning regulatory system here and the Tesla CEO wasn't a megalomaniacal monster who has wet dreams about the apocalypse, it wouldn't have made it out of design like that because they would know they couldn't sell it as street legal in their largest market.
Fun fact; pick-up trucks don’t have to go through all the safety regulations that sedans and SUVs do.
If you were an unscrupulous businessman who needed to push a car out the door in order to avoid getting sued by investors and customers, you’d probably design it this exact way.
The Cybertruck is another case of Elon fucking around and then finding out. It feels like the Cybertruck was supposed to be vaporware, like the Roadster and the Tesla Semis. Only thing was people kept asking about it because they put substantial money down on it.
My second cousin. The tragedy is that it was his grandfather's car, an octogenarian Tesla investor/believer. His grandfather died and no one else in the family wanted it and it hadn't been sold yet. If it weren't a dumpster on wheels, he wouldn't have driven it to his death.
Am forever ever ever grateful my late mother, who passed several years ago, procrastinated treating herself to a Tesla for her final years. If she had bought one, she'd be up in Heaven now freaking FURIOUS that she'd given this bastard one cent of her money.
I will never understand why everything needed to be electric and touchscreens. I'm glad we have electric windows instead of the cranks I grew up with, but a lock should always have at least an easily accessible manual override.
It is on good EVs, all mine are mechanical and easily overridden. Also don't get stuck in cold temperatures.
Folks are starting to wake up to the least viable option carmaker with the worst road worthiness, ADAS injuries/deaths, etc, is, really, a horrible dangerous product.
Tooling costs for plastic injection molds are high, more buttons are a lot of different plastic pieces to design that need tooling and light guides for lighting and they have to be well done or they’ll break or cheapen the vibe
And yet it's a problem that was solved 30 years ago. The expense is made less by reusing on more models and it can't be that hard/expensive, every other manufacturer manages while making more cars and more profit.
Yes but they are actually hidden on the rear doors and you have to use the manual to find them because they are hidden under a latch. How many random passengers know this?
Just stating that they do exist. They’re actually on all doors. The front releases are accessible, as they are right by window controls. Unfortunately, as you shared, the rears are not so accessible.
Yeah, I don't think the random rear seat passenger in a burning Tesla is going to know to reach down into the door well (cupholder space), flip up a latch cover, and then pull on a mechanical release cable.
Touchscreens are because car manufacturers are cheap as hell and it's less expensive than adding physical buttons. Musk also seems to be adverse to having physical door handles or safety regulations.
"We also learned the three victims had alcohol and cocaine in their systems, while the 19-year-old Cybertruck driver who died also had meth in his system."
This is the most on-brand Tesla death I've ever read.

My nephew DIED in his TESLA when it malfunctioned, sped across the road striking trees & immediately combusting. He was incinerated. It took 6 hrs for the fire to be put out & car to cool. Rescue was useless. He was 32 & left behind a young wife & a first baby abt to be born.
DAMN TESLA.
There is legitimate evidence to suggest they may have a fatality rate worse than that of the infamous Ford Pinto. Notable that they are not road legal in Europe.
Burning to death while trapped in a vehicle is definitely not on my list of ways I'd like to go.
I am still haunted by the story from over 20 years ago out of Houston when a box truck tipped over on an off-ramp and landed on a family's car. The family was trapped and, IIRC, burned alive.
They didn't, no Insurance Company covers them, only Elon himself provides insurance for these Deathtraps, and it's clear he just bribed the NHTSA and Transport Canada
My understanding it's due to Elon's fetish for entirely electrical systems. No power, no open. There are safety releases, but they are hidden such that most people will die before finding them in an emergency.
Before Musk took over the running of the government there was an agency that kept track of accidents by manufacture
What a coincidence, but that was a agency Musk gutted
Before he did, they were showing Tesla leading in accidents
Horrific that these deaths were entirely preventable were it not for bad Tesla design.
From the account it sounds like the passengers that died had plenty of time to escape were the doors still functioning, and were fully conscious during the ensuing fire
This is by design. Four teenagers were killed in a Tesla fire last fall in Toronto. The doors are electrically operated not mechanically, that means when the electrical system isn’t functioning you need to know how to override the door locks. How many people have the owners manual memorized

Jeez, what a stupid world we're in.
To borrow a phrase from HAL... "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that".
I wonder why Musk didn't mention these incidents and all the accidents Tesla's have.

There's an emergency release, right below the open button. No one bothers to take the time to learn where it is or how to use it.

Expensive death traps.

Therefore:
Destroying the doors to try to escape from a fire is terrorism.
Creating one that spontaneously burst on fire is terrorism, therefore Musk is a mass terrorist.
This is the most on-brand Tesla death I've ever read.
(This is a sincere question. I genuinely don't know. But the framing of the headline implies that the doors couldn't be opened *from inside*.)

DAMN TESLA.
27 deaths were directly linked to the Pinto, though some estimates suggest the number could be higher.
Whilst Tesla vehicles, on the other hand, have been involved in 674 fatalities as of 2025, with 54 of those linked to Autopilot use.
It’s sick
Let the nazis burn this time 🤷🏻♀️
