Latke is a traditional Jewish food that we eat at Hanukkah. It’s also known as a potato pancake - grated potatoes and onions held together by egg and fried in oil. There is a divide in the community about whether to eat them with sour cream or applesauce (I like both together).

I wasn't raised with sour cream in general (kosher style home) so breaking away from applesauce is a big deal. I think I got the cream + sauce from a post by Sen. Brian Schatz! Brave new world.
Ketchup is entirely unacceptable though. On latkes or hash browns. And hot dogs.

❤️ I remember first going to Canter's with a friend in Los Angeles in 1991 and ordering latkes, and our waitress asked if we wanted sour cream or applesauce, and we asked if we could have both, and she said, "yes, of course," and then she brought us THE BEST LATKES IN THE WORD with both.

I would say "as one does", though in fact I just go for the sour cream, and my wife usually orders applesauce,
