Biden had FOUR YEARS to try to move the needle on this. Making this ERA statement now, with a foot literally out the door, and shirting the focus to a humble government functionary, is not courage and is not progress. It’s cowardice, from a party that has gotten all too used to it.

Also, each of the last two Archivists (both men) would have happily done this. So really, she is an unelected civil servant (a librarian who writes mysteries) making a legal decision.😬
Additionally, Trump and Maga could have killed this Day One. Now it's headed to the Courts and will most likely be considered settled law there as well.
1972 was a lot longer than 7 years ago lol
Especially when the institutional keeper of the Constitutional process says it ain't so.

The real question is: Does America want to be a country with constitutional gender equality. We can be the 169th country with it.
Ginsburg suggested "start over," in writing, based on Article V in context rescissions & the following SCOTUS rulings regarding timeframes:
Dillon v. Gloss (1921)
Coleman v. Miller (1939)
NV, IL, & VA were 35+ years too late.
he could have done more
but there's nothing he could have done that would have settled the issue of equal rights and fair shares
that'll be a question for courts and then for voters
will Ds manage to put the rightists on the back foot? that's up to us not Biden
Calculated? Absolutely.
Which he also obviously will and nobody in the media will be bothered by it.
Doing this 4 years ago, gets it into the courts, which will almost certainly side with the GOP, and kill the amendment for good. And doing so, ends up with the blame being laid at his, and the Dems, feet by the media.
Huzzah for your hope.
I want to know what he negotiated away for those economy bills.
Democrats need leadership if we are going to win anything in 2026.
Too little, too late.
Both presidents are to blame here, as are both parties.
Your attempted equivalency is specious.
Vote Blue no matter who.
His term ends on the 20th, what the hell do you want him to do
Thomas said she agreed with Biden, that the archivist's position is "ministerial." However, she is under no illusions that the incoming Trump administration agrees.

At the end of the day, this was not a thing he wanted to do. But he did it and that is a win for American women. 🇺🇸
It is not necessary for the National Archivist to publish the ERA in order for it to be adopted according to the provisions of the Constitution.

On the heels of getting pilloried for commuting the majority of death row, today President Biden took a MASSIVE STEP towards relief for crack vs. powder
Biden has been showing some courage at the end
I am just saying it deserved more attention
Progress where progress is due, I guess. But what’s the point of sitting on it for 4 years?
From my view: Lots of people spent 4 years in prison for no reason. And the’s 100% on Biden’s inaction.
You honestly have no feelings about them languishing in prison for 4 years without reason, other than Joe’s cowardice?
I guess I have strong opinions about “justice delayed”.
Name the President's who did more pardons?
I have lots of issues with Joe Biden, but if you are saying you expected him to commute the row and commute all the crack v. powder folks ever... okay?
Where do they get this power from? and if they object wouldn’t filing a lawsuit after publishing be appropriate?
I don’t know 🤷🏿♂️
I’ll listen more tho
90% of Americans now have to make do with less ( food, water, air, clothing, housing) so the upper 1% get more of it.
The upper 10% will help them get it.
ffs! People need to establish, enhance, and support their communities with mutual aid
Democrats could be arguing that sharing everything is the only way we aren’t euthanizing the poorest among us for their stuff.
Seriously, I hear & respect you. But I'm very disappointed, brokenhearted, and tired. The best I can do for now is save my energy, vent online, & focus on building communities & mutual aid
(btw-Please don't make me post my activist resume. I've done a lot)
Republicans just believe that white men are superior to women, and are passing laws to enforce that belief.
But yeah, Biden…
I really like Biden, always have. But disappointed he waited so fucking long
He is a fucking idiot and a fascist traitor who is selling Americas soul to oligarchs and corruption.
Fucking despicable
Not that SCOTUS is bound to this precedent, but multiple state level ERAs (most recently in Nevada) have been interpreted to strike down laws limiting access to medical procedures on the basis of sex.
Both democratic and republican career politicians are Incentivized to do things that look pretty, and do nothing.
They aim for headlines and engagement, fueled by us. We're the problem.
I believed in him, but my opinion of him has greatly soured in his failures to save America. When trump comes for him, I won't feel sorry.
Trump has spent the last nine years making shit up and claiming it’s true.
Works both ways
