Jesus people do all of the above. Like, you individually don’t have to do everything (and don’t burn yourself out—a long fight ahead), do what you can, but all of these tactics and more are needed. We need more people engaged, not purity calls in how to engage.
It's almost like, almost eveything should be happening at once, never understood the attempts to pit different ideas like this against each other, people. Just do it.
It cost me a total of $5.80 to attend yesterday‘s protest. And if you count for the fact that I also stop by a store where I needed to return something, it actually cost me nothing.
Protesting is not stupid it's one of the few things we can do to fight back. Of course it's important that people write their representatives and senators but this shows how many people are angry. 5 million. That that's a lot anger, but Republicans could fix it. They just won't.
Wow Brendel you are super smart. So I guess the march for equal rites didn’t work? Or the march for women’s rites didn’t work? Or the march for labor rites didn’t work? There is this thing called HISTORY…maybe look into it! Good luck
They want to pretend that calling politicians and writing letters is more effective than public displays of protest, because phone calls and letters are private. They can ignore you and nobody will know that you ever said anything to them.
They hate public protest because it reaches people.
Protesting is powerful. It ended a war in the 70’s. It brought civil rights. It brought women’s rights.
Never forget the power is in the people in a democracy.
Of the millions and millions people protesting you actually believe that none of them wrote letters. Come on man they are not that stupid. What universe are you from?😂😂
We protested 55 years ago because our local school board was going to drop out of the free school lunch program for low income kids. I went to jail and everything. It worked. Public outcry reversed the decision. They're still in the program to this day. Educate yourself.
protesting is a scam, people! write letters and make calls, protesting doesn't help anyone! just don't waste your time protesting. don't protest. do not protest. don't you dare. don't you dare protest.
And with maga narcissists, they shield them from negative comments, letters, etc and tell them only about the worshippers...aka...cult members views of them. We've seen enough of this. Some of the lower ranking might be somewhat influenced by "letters" and "phone calls". If they listen or read.
You know, voting is another form of protesting. We shall see if that still exists. Anyway, they have hired people to go through their mail and calls/voicemails. Also, some may have full voice mail, so people can't leave messages.
And why can’t we do both? Keep in mind, protesting not only sends a message (see history reference in response below) but people marching together for a common cause gives a sense of community and hope that can inspire them and those watching to write letters and make phone calls.
Hello my name is John Quincy Notacop and I remind everyone to protest only in ways that involve filling out your complete name and return address, also Mothers Maiden name if it’s not too much trouble, and the name of your first pet.
we need YOUR help to defeat DRUMPF! Just send your credit card number, expiration date, and those three silly numbers on the back to 725 5th Ave, New York, NY
I cannot recall an NGO of any size actually organizing a large scale protest. A few may have signed on to grass roots movements but they don't usually organize and plan them...
A large part of how trump won was mobilizing magats on the streets. Protests and boycotts work, they just have to go on for a while, really freeze things up. Letters don't have to be read. But a thousand people outside your window is hard to ignore
I might add that writing letters and phoning governor offices IS a form of protest. You should be doing BOTH written protest and appearing in person at protests.
Lmao, i wrote to complain about the bill in our statehouse to reduce library funding and got a form back about how my rep is concerned about public spending on libraries.
No, not Times New Roman in fine, glossy ink upon whitened sheets, staining its message, then folded away, tucked into an envelope just ready to burst forth into their office to plant a seed of change in their mind.
What hope do 5 million people in the street have against that, their greatest fear?
Protest aren’t stupid. I know it’s fashionable to mock boomers, but a generation helped end an endless, losing war(pentagon papers). What you suggest is also a valuable exercise of 1st amdmt rights, however, I hope everyone who protested used the strongest tool available to them&voted against Trump.
No, both are important. The calls and letters tell them what you think. But when tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of people fill the streets, that definitely sends a message.
Letter writing, emails and phone call do matter. Politicians still have to deal with all that and when it overwhelms the infrastructure it because a nightmare for them.
How about we as people who contain multitudes….I dunno do both. Because personally I’m at the point where just one thing is not enough to express the rage I’m starting to feel.
I don’t know. I felt totally renewed hope to go to our local demonstration. I cried it made me so happy not to feel alone with all my fear snd discouragement. Then seeing the posts from all the other places…I am definitely energized to take other actions as well. Including letters. It works!
You make a valid point absent the name calling. Protesting is a valid, visible, and group means of expressing discontent that is indeed best used with phone calls and letters. However, neither the calls nor the letters create and promote community like protests. Public protests are visible to all.
Protesting is NOT stupid. It helps us see and hear that we are not alone. The rest of the world sees & roots for us. The benefits are many, including: EVIDENCE that the people CARE and will ACT.
It’s not either/or, it’s both. People are also writing and calling, but that doesn’t get SEEN.
An odd position. An odd understanding of what an NGO is. Why the insults? Seems AI. Maybe check with South Korea, Romania and Georgia (the country) about efficacy of protests. Definitely write actual letters as well. Even the powerful recognize the danger the rattle of a rattle snack signifies.
I know you’re often asked for help, and I truly wouldn’t reach out unless it was urgent. I’m facing incredibly difficult circumstances, and your support, no matter how small, could make a real difference. Please take a moment to read my story in the bio.♥️💕♥️💕♥️
Most protestors know MAGA doesn't care. The protests unite dissenters. It's good to know we are not alone. We will need each other to oust our tyrants.
technically yes but whoever that moron is is trying to link them into some nefarious foreign intelligence operation i guess? i mean they are clearly a wrecker if this is their response but probably just because their brain is an overripe banana

If protesting doesn’t work why are they arresting protesters against the genocide in Gaza.
What have you managed, protestcels?
They hate public protest because it reaches people.
Never forget the power is in the people in a democracy.
Oh noes, what can we do?? :sob wail:
yep that’s a Nazi troll
What hope do 5 million people in the street have against that, their greatest fear?
Get all up in their grill.
That’s how they’re doing it to coerce Congress. It can still be non violent, just be present.
Bad joke. Like, really really bad.
It’s not either/or, it’s both. People are also writing and calling, but that doesn’t get SEEN.
