I love writing for children but one thing I find very hard is working out how old the parents and grandparents of an 11 year old are likely to be, and all the calculations involved and assumptions of average ages of fertility. They never told me there'd be maths and statistics in fiction. #KidLituk

Cousin and uncle were both around 4 when my parents married.
Siblings from 70 to me at 54.
My niblings are from 46 to 30. (Oldest & youngest same parents.)
58 year old sibling about to be a great-grandparent.
Grandmother will be 44. Parents are 19.
So, any age goes. Right?
Enjoy. (Double checked for typos)
months older than my mom (who had quite a time explaining this to little me lol)
I don't know if it's attitude, dress/style choices or expectations that have changed but they look 10-15 years older than I'd expect now.
I think we're the youngest parents at every parents evening, otherwise his maternal grandparents would be even older.
My foster sister was a grandmother by the time she was 38!
I don't think there is any harm in asking, it was my choice to answer or not!
I’m now 50 and if one of these kids says “My grandma is 50!” I’m done. 🤣
24th in 1944
31st in 1954
65th in 1964
89th in 1974
not quite the same, but still could be useful for research, context and texture

Something like this?
- it's extremely basic
- the categories there were led by what I could find databases for easily
As with all these things... the tech is the easy bit.
Getting data would be more tricky
Taxonomy and data gathering are hard!

As long as there were data sources.
(But, for most things, there won't be existing formatted data)

It would be really useful.
Comedy uses a cast of agreed archetypes. It’s like commedia del arte, or Carry On. The shared village of characters, references. And they change over time.
✅ Given a TV series to reinvent himself and win over viewers
- It's Jacob Rees Mogg!
Hang on...
❌ Loves travelling by train
OK, maybe not.
Portillo as slightly creepy possible future PM (Streeting) , famous seat loser (Truss) or red-trousered railway enthusiast?

We're an age-gap couple with no kids, but if we did, they'd be one of the *very* few who could ask grandparents about WW2 (except my in-laws are dead, but then it's an imagined scenario anyway!)
Both sets of their parents had died many years before. 😕
I'm especially confused as I got to work with broadcasting kid's programmes for a while, so sometimes adults remember things I made ;-)
Funnily enough I only really know beeb kids telly from the 70s as a child, and then only beeb programmes 90s/early 2000s from work.
I remember putting Teletubbies out for the first time and thinking 'what the fuck...?'.
I tend to date people by wars.
Quite difficult to remember that today’s grandparents were too young to remember WWII.
Blur fans as teens or early 20s in the mid 90s(?) puts them as born in '70 - '80 (ish).
Being 15 in '17 gives a birth year of '02 when the parents would have been 22 - 32.
But I haven't aged a day, surely?
On the other hand, when Lauren Boebert’s grandchild turns 11, she’ll be 46.
