At some point Democratic elected officials will notice that when Donald Trump has a personal setback the majority of the population literally celebrates in the street, I hope.

I was going to read a few news stories before mentioning the verdict to my less-online wife.
Meanwhile, her phone was exploding with Democratic fundraiser texts :-)
Literally a lot of the leadership was around when they had the entire Reagan administration dead to rights on Iran-Contra and shit didn't happen with that so they're a little gun shy about attacking Republicans for their plainly illegal bullshit.
Asking as a boomer myself, is there any evidence that boomer Democrats are soft on Trump? Maybe it's my bubble, but I can tell you 100% of my cohort that I know personally and adjacent are anti-fascist and liberal. And very pro 34, as it were. And then some.
It’s because they all have West Wing brain and frankly liking that show should be immediately disqualifying for holding public office past a certain level of responsibility lol
When the sun comes up tomorrow, and the revolution hasn't started, maybe they will start to realize that it is actually possible to impose consequences on trump and his supporters
I’ve noticed over the past couple years that the Trump signs have vanished from area lawns, the bumper stickers disappeared from the cars, the red hats have gone to the thrift shops.
but that would require them to find the current status quo repugnant, and also realize that “the current status quo” has changed from what it used to be—today’s republicans (and dems) are not identical to yesterday’s, so strategies must be updated accordingly.
This is a bubble take. Ya know whos not celebrating in the streets? Any1 w/in 100 miles of me. Theres a lot of gettable voters out there who dont even know & probably wouldnt have that reaction if they did. I dont need anyone to convince me to vote blue, Dems dont need to join my petty celebration
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Now will the hitherto gutless #MSM start ALWAYS referring to #Trump as "former President and 🔥Convicted Felon"?!🔥Let's see starting tonight...Oh, and he also has earned two counts of felony contempt of the court that eventually convicted him. 😚
No doubt they’re working on a short celebratory memo right now. It may (and I stress *may*) have multiple large fonts and even more than one exclamation mark. The difficulty now I understand is getting it under 3 pages. 😄
Headline is amazing. News media can’t bear to put out news that doesn’t push the horserace/panic scenario, so they temper it by telling us water is still wet
People like to see a bad man get his, and imo the fact that Trump has got another trial for a crime he’s essentially admitted being ground into dust by a corrupt judge whom he appointed affords Democrats great latitude to assertively and creatively fuck him up, if they have the sand to do it.
It feels like most of the establishment Dems are in it for the insider trading perks and won't stick their necks out any further than they have to. I really don't believe they look at Trump and see a legitimate threat, which is baffling but they act like they've got no skin in the game, forget sand.
Like! Some of them almost got killed by an angry mob a few years ago and they're just like "Welp, whatcanyado? Ain't he awful? Not worth even calling attention to I reckon. Anyway, back to tracking my perfectly legal stock portfolio."
No. . That was the smart play in order to get the nom at the convention which is her only route. With him likely getting time in custody on 7/11 and convention 7/15 and her delegate count... It's the hey I unequivocally supported him before his conviction but he can't win in custody
the goal of all republicans (well, most) is to pretend the verdict is illegitimate in some way, and beat that drum until november.
they know that 15% will steadily decrease.
Those last 8 words are the head of the nail. Will the Democrats capitalize on this or will they be hyper "dignified" and focus only on the solemnity of the moment?
This sort of suggests that Republicans in deep red gerrymandered districts benefit by torching the rule of law over the verdict while those in more contested districts like Stefanik are politically better off remaining silent but ofc she is not silent. Wonder if some of these folk start to clam up.
I did a fist pump in the car when NPR announced it and am now having a beer. In my mind, I am in the street screaming, "How's it feel finding out you racist, sexist, classist, bigoted piece of shit!?"
I hope too. And I also hope that when they do this, the press doesn’t excoriate Democrats for being “uncivil.” Because one thing we can always count on is the matter what the Democrats do, they will be criticized for it. And no matter what happens it’s always bad for Biden.
Heck, remember the day Biden was officially declared the winner and even the *BBC* was like "we put together a supercut of Biden pics set to Biden reading Seamus Heaney, in case there was any question about where we stand on the subject"
What are you talking about? Literally every major democrat elected and not has strongly commended the jury and pointed out that Trump isn’t worthy to represent America in any capacity.
"At this diner in Canton, Ohio the mood is somber, yet defiant. A hash-slinging server is talking to the cook about chartering a bus to New York City for the sentencing."
I've been reading pieces from guys saying Biden should have NY governor pardon Trump. How convicting him and celebrating is going to hurt Biden.maybe if these guys would stop telling us letting him get away with everything is a benefit to democrats it would be good
Yeah, I’m thinking especially the ones where this trial would make them walk through a napalm field to vote for him even though they supposedly hated him before.

(It's why they try to deny them to us!)

Or owned by the Harlan Crows.
We are in deeper shit than most realize.
If we somehow survive November, I hope people don't get complacent as like after J6.
Susan Collins is openly a MAGAt now, that's how bad things are.
they know that 15% will steadily decrease.
I predict a baby boom in 9 months.
there's a huge silent majority, they just go to a different school
I almost wonder if it has anything to do with his family being threatened.
The Republican Party doesn't need to be one of them.
