i’ve decided to delete this post because i saw two different replies from people who genuinely seemed to believe i was telling the truth. for the record this is not true. we know exactly how many 263 is. it is 263

Really?? Is posting false information to prove others are stupid, 1. Necessary 2. Accomplishing something..with AI and Trump lies posting the truth is a better use of public platforms, by now we all know stupid people are alive and well
you can alternatively count the phalanxes of your two hands using only your thumbs 11 times and then at the 11th time stop counting before reaching your last finger
Your replies have been such that I can't tell if "i saw two different replies from people who genuinely seemed to believe i was telling the truth" is itself true or just part of the bit
But also discrete quantities do exist. It's just that our understanding of what it means for a number to exist is a bit flexible and we can have some fun with it.
Meanwhile there are 4 distinct paintings by Edvard Munch which we consider The Scream. It's 1 and also 4. Yet if you collected them all, you couldn't really say you have 4 of a kind.
The truth about quantum particles is also wonky. The Uncertainty principle applies to all bodies. They're averages.
Particles will be in a superposition of states, sure, but the states physically exist. There are systems with a discrete 263rd state, that exist in nature with no human assumptions or concepts applied.
Honestly? You mean, people just didn't get that you were doing a bit. I guess the numbers can get a bit hazy when you get up to really high ones that it's impossible to really conceptualise. But 263? I mean most cricket matches end up with higher scores.
This is hilarious. I read this tweet to my husband and he’s like, “what kind of dumb shit is going around on your social media feeds” and then proceeded to rant about 263 being a real number for like 15 minutes. 🤣
But have you ever seen 263 with your own eyes? Don't trust the government! If you look closely in the lower left corner of the 6, you can see the lens flare which proves it was filmed in a studio!
263 is true. But also, 263 lives in a subliminal space, a lie 264 tells themselves, the imaginary friend 262 always had. 263 only exists in the pages of a book that was never written by the detective whose murder was never solved. 263 has never died, but is killed every second.
There were exactly 263 Roman emperors. NATO has 263 nation members. The Oval Office has 263 2x4’s in the walls. This goes higher up than you think. Joe Rogan went into this a few months ago and no one has heard from him since. Follow the money. #263
We also know what the last digit of pi is. It is the last digit of pi.
(And if written in binary, it must be 1. Because if it was 0 we would leave it off. The Pi is infinite argument collapses to us not knowing how long an infinite random string is. But we do know. It is infinitely long.)
The universe is ever expanding. Who are you to say where 263 begins and ends? Maybe in the future math doctors might find that after 262 comes 2¥:2.5 and you’ll have space egg on your face. Woke strikes again
Usually the Hobbes face next to the post makes it look like Calvin is saying something outrageous and Hobbes is just reacting to it, but in this particular case, I think there is actually a strip where Hobbes is the culprit. He does some of Calvin's math homework using numbers he invented.

count the fingers of both of your hands six times
count 3 more fingers, that's somewhere around it i think
The set theoretic way to "build" a theory of numbers starts with integers 0, 1, 2... then rationals 1/2, 1/3... then irrationals π, e...
but this is merely a model meant to make sense of a world in which actually,
only irrational numbers exist.
There's really no 263. Or 4.
Throw a dart at a number line, there's a 100% chance it landed on an irrational.
Every number you use in day to day life...
the number of miles between locations, the number of bones in your body...
It's either an average or an estimate.
But also discrete quantities do exist. It's just that our understanding of what it means for a number to exist is a bit flexible and we can have some fun with it.
99.99... is 100.
Watch:
Let x := 0.99...
then 10x = 9.99...
and 100x = 99.99...
100x-10x=90x
99.99...-9.99...=90.0
90x=90
x=1=0.99...
100x=100=99.99...
There's no trick here, this is an algebraic proof that 99.99... is 100.
We just don't know if that applies to space and time, hence the difficulty quantizing gravity.
They represent real concepts but the physical things they map to are social constructs. 2 apples is 2 because we accept that they're fungible.
The truth about quantum particles is also wonky. The Uncertainty principle applies to all bodies. They're averages.
First report was correct. 263 is a known quantity only to the entity known as Zorgop.
@jonbois.bsky.social has clearly felt the pressure of the regime and Master Musk and is now towing the line.
Another patriot falls.
Do not fall for 263 = 263. The cake is a lie!
Justice for Snarbo!
Great. Now I have to start my doctoral thesis all over.
But the square roots of negative numbers. Now that stuff is just made up.
But 42 is the secret of the universe.
It’s true because it was written on the stall in my favorite rest stop.
(So long, thanks for all the fish!)
In the meantime, here's a list of cool stuff about other numbers.

....I'm going to go just walk into the sea now
Successfully launching a cult lololol.
(by "they" I mean metrologists)
You are a hero!

Something like, “Can you think of a number higher than 1,000,000? If so, please mail us as we’re holding a contest in hopes to discover one.”
720720 is my favorite

Don't get it on the paper, though. Especially not as a tiger. That could be, uh.....easily misinterpreted....
What was the number again?
Did it ever really exist??
