We don't need more spectacular films about "superheroes", who destroy whole cities during the film. We need more films like The Florida Project, which are closer to reality; yet with people you can sympathize with.
I feel like we’re living American Psycho. Those assholes in their 1980’s bespoke suits who aspired to business card perfection, the sociopathic killer with poor impulse control and terrible taste in music, the wanton cruelty, the greed. Remind you of anyone currently destroying our lives?
and, as an aside, i met him in the waiting area in LaGuardia many years back and chatted him up for like 15 minutes and he could not have been a more gracious gentleman to put up with me for that time and be nice about it
Watched that a few weeks ago for the first time since it came out and I'd forgotten just how weird and dark that movie is. Genuinely twisted, and Malkovich's performance is almost as unsettling and Defoe's--which is saying something.
This is so cliche and very much NOT an endorsement of any other part of it- but Boondock Saints. It’s where I first saw him and subsequently fell in love with him
Since it is the most recent I've seen, Nosferatu. Every time he would mutter, "Too much blood.", whom else could sell that in a vampire tale from a character that isn't the vampire?
I hate to reduce the man to a comic book movie role, but his Norman Osborne is iconic for very good reason and I'm glad he got that reprise in No Way Home.
With that said... he was great in John Wick, which is my actual favorite film of the bunch. But he's been so good in so many movies!
I was heading here to add New Rose Hotel. Such an odd movie with some brilliant actors doing horrible things.
I have a special place in my heart for it.

so every willem dafoe movie
The Florida Project
The Last Temptation of Christ
Arthouse-ish: The Florida Project
Mississippi Burning
Always will have a soft spot for White Sands, though. Early Samuel L. Jackson and a great & prophetic bit from Mickey Rourke
The last film I shot, all the young kids on the crew kept saying I was like Dafoe.
I'll take it!
THERE WAS A FIRE FIIIIIIIIIIGHT!
A film where he's actually a major character: Finding Nemo
No contest
I love the premise of the film and then for him to be in the 2024 Nosferatu was just brilliant casting!
It’s not a movie for multi-tasking.
Just kidding.
Seriously, though:
Death Note
It's not the best live action film adaption; the Japanese live action one being much better. He do an incredible job as the voice actor of Ryuk.
The only green goblin for me.
Scared me shitless as wee guy
HM
Platoon
The Boondock Saints
Clear and Present Danger
Spider-Man: No Way Home
With that said... he was great in John Wick, which is my actual favorite film of the bunch. But he's been so good in so many movies!
Wild At Heart
The Virgin Suicides
Platoon
Mississippi Burning
New Rose Hotel

... Wow, he's been in *a lot* of great movies. Often in supporting roles, but he does consistently deliver quality work.
I have a special place in my heart for it.
