you know what. you guys are right. “you must vote for the guy who does not listen to his constituents nor care about what they think, to save democracy” is a legible and compelling message

During the holiday I tried explaining to my mom why Biden sucked. She said “people don’t understand how the economy works” and I said “that’s not their job, the president’s job is the make the economy work for them” but she just couldn’t get how people weren’t grateful for sleepy Joe
Thank you for demonstrating that Democratic Party messaging is not targeted at the people affected by policy but their slightly more comfortable, more privileged relatives.
He listens, but sometimes very reluctantly. He dragged his feet on forgiving student loan debt, but was fairly quick to restore it after the Supreme Court tried to dismiss. His views on Israel are entrenched on years of history. The pause & hostage exchange is a start. Keep pushing.
Is your life going to be better with Trump or Biden as president? The lives of your family and friends? Is the world going to be better? My answer is it will be better with Biden. I’m angry with him, I’m upset by so many of his choices, but it’ll be better if he’s president. That’s my take.
The thing that keeps getting me about the current Dem messaging is that trump was already president. Like I'm not saying he wouldn't be bad or worse in his second term, but it's weird to think the threat "THIS IS UNPRECEDENTED" is going to resonate with people who were alive four years ago
the message that I'm getting is that all Republicans are like this, so it's going to happen eventually barring something truly earth shattering, but it would be super funny if it was Trump
It's very frustrating that there is no credible movement in the US to reform the electoral system. At this point, it's barely a democracy and I fully understand the frustration of people told to vote (for decades) for the "lesser evil" to stave off catastrophe. There must be a better way.
Hey from NC! We elected a Democrat for federal House of Reps and she switched parties shortly after entering office. I love knowing that the democratically elected representatives can simply 🤷♂️switch🤷♂️ parties!
if your instinct is to tell me, a transsexual, that im going to be put in a camp or lose my bodily autonomy or whatsoever, yes i know about this! perhaps i am more mad at biden for losing an entire generation of voters in swing states than at the people he is currently alienating
tbh, i support biden because i wouldnt be able to transition if not for the medicaid expansion his administration approved, so based on that alone, he's got my vote 🤷♀️
I think I said this to you before but it’s the assumption that we don’t know what Trump is. I’m a brown man who lived under four years of Trump - it’s bad! But the moral urgency is to stop a clear and present Genocide which matters more to me than the rest!
If you think it was bad then wait until he gets in the White House again. Have you been listening to what he’s telling his supporters at rallies? To make a long story short, he plans to turn us into the likes of Russia.
ME: wow i am not excited for my life-saving medication to become illegal because biden lost an entire demographic of voters in michigan, supporting a genocide
A PARADE OF FREAKS: oh so you think this will be BETTER under TRUMP?????????????
he's literally never done that, he doubled their fleet of aircraft, and has been providing them with the locations of refugees fleeing Gaza, which the IDF has bombed for a month consecutively
He’s trying to get MORE funding and MORE weapons for Israel. He has NOT called for a ceasefire. The latest was simply a “pause.” Why is it bad that we’re literally begging the DNC for another options besides an old white man who supports the genocide of Palestinians??
Biden just asked the Senate to allow Israel unhindered access to American weapons. Does any of this sound like an attempt at establishing a cease fire to you?
Any trans person here knows this better than you or I ever will. So, do you think perhaps your entire approach is wrongheaded? Because you don't seem to be making any headway. Is that because everyone else just isn't as smart as you, you think?
Truthfully, if there’s anyone who doesn’t seem to recognize the threat the GOP represents, it’s the Democratic Party leadership and Biden in particular. Why not lecture THEM?
I mean, Republicans have been walking into LGBT nightclubs and opening fire as well as aggressively targeting people in red states but that's all meaningless compared to hypothetically losing a swing state in 2024, I guess
In 2016 we were warned that Trump would appoint extreme right justices. That would put freedom in jeopardy. Here we are even when told to calm down. Now we all live with the results.
You were also told Clinton was a deeply flawed candidate that was rubbing lots of people the wrong way and here we are all having to live with the results of nominating her
So it wasn't that important for you to stop the right wing judges. Ok. Like to get confirmation that it was just about being smug online and not actual results.
No she was deeply flawed because she voted for the Iraq war and was a horrific secretary of state and was promising the continuation of Obama economics when people spent 8 years never recovering from the financial crisis. But sure play the victim. Just like that awful politician you love.
None of that mattered to the independent vote. And purity of politics is how we got Trump. The gop didn’t like him, they held their nose, and they got the judges and tax cuts. And next they’ll get agenda 2025 and full control of the government. The cons win.
Sander had been in Congress for decades and had never been able to make the changes that were his platform. I'm not saying that he was/is not right. Only that the platform was rejected by a majority of the electorate.
Hey it's that lie that lying moron Clinton pushed. In reality his nickname as the amendment king was about how he worked in the system to make changes that helped lots of people.
clinton got 2.5 million more votes. people did vote for her. it's not the fault of the voters, it's the fault of the comically undemocratic electoral system the US uses
That is why the consistent argument from Republicans that the US Constitution gave us a republic and not a democracy. Always without considering that the republic is based on representation. As a democracy we should have equal representation, and we don't.
I think what frustrates me most about this response is that Joe Biden is currently losing the election and has offered no clear path to changing that trajectory, so it's not as if the policies he's adopted that have the left angry at him are helping to do the "save democracy" part either
Democrats are terrible at both, actually, and that's why Biden is losing. People are sick of the status quo and neoliberals are nothing if not status quo managers. It has zero to do with messaging and everything to do with the lack of real action and help during a time of cascading crises.
Which part of Biden's governance do you enjoy the most? 700K+ dead from COVID? Greater wealth inequality than the Gilded Age? Supporting the genocide of the Palestinians? Escalating tensions with Russia and China? Drilling more than Trump when we're facing environmental collapse?
Grow up. The idea that Biden is somehow solely responsible for your list of grievances is childish and ill informed. Furthermore I was referring to liberal policies as a whole, but you knew that.
Like it's not as if he's soaring in the polls and it's just a bunch of angry cranks who are mad at him. His polls suck and the current strategy to change that appears to be repeating its too early until it's too late.
He basically kept the bulk of the Trump border approach in place and is underwater on polls around trust in handling immigration. Keeping the framework in place won over exactly zero hawks (obviously) and pissed off a ton of otherwise Dem-friendly organizations and voters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's definitely too early to guess how the election might go, but it's never too early to loudly announce that the incumbent candidate has your unwavering and unconditional support and doesn't have to do anything at all to earn your vote
it would be one thing if they were like i know this sucks its all weve got but they seem to genuinely like this message it makes them feel serious or something
In 2016, people got mad at Hillary for colluding with the DNC and screwing over Bernie. So they voted Green. And because of that, in 2022, women lost the right to bodily autonomy. You can choose not to vote for Biden, you can sit this out, but doing so will be far worse.
I’m still holding out hope that Trump and Biden both shuffle off this mortal coil in the next 6 months or so. Still no guarantee we’ll get a decent non-evil candidate, but at least we’ll have a chance at it with those two gone.
So what's your solution? Do we deny him our support in favor of a third party who absolutely cannot win? Or maybe we use our support to get him to change course on the issue? Which sounds more rational?
I’m absolutely terrified of the 45 getting back into office and it would appear that a non-vote would be an automatic vote for him. The stakes are very high.
It’s possible that the pressure applied on Biden is the reason the US if pushing back things on expanding the aggression into southern Gaza; ie the idea that the war costs votes does affect decisions
The Democratic party, if it won't listen to its own constituents, needs to be cut off at the roots - we need to go after it on a local level. Primary any candidate who doesn't pass muster.
Regardless of what goes on at the national level, that's the way we get change, with a sustained effort.
I believe it was Umberto Eco said fascists position enemies are at the same time both too strong and too weak. Not saying they’re fascists necessarily (it’s debatable), but they definitely copped that one from the playbook.
Not it's not, but we have a shitty system that will only give us a choice between a bad person and a literal Nazi. I am happy with primarying anyone who isn't in favor of fixing our democracy, but keeping white supremacists, religious nuts and fascists out of office is my primary concern.
And, idk, if their goal is to elect Biden again, they need to pressure him to listen to his constituents. There are avenues of organizing for this! It’s almost like they just want to feel superior and be dicks to strangers online. They kind of want Trump to win so they can yell that it was our fault

In a gerrymandered district
With non-competitive municipal races
And the governor has dissolved our school district
This is the most important election of my life.

he's helping them
The Dems suck but they have never been worse than the Republicans
It's of course not a laughing matter, as we know all too well in the UK, but here is me trying

At some point that’s going to snap under the tension of incompatible expectations.
I disagree with him on Israel but know we agree on so much more.
