I think “hey assholes, Gus Walz is disabled” is missing the forest for the trees because it grants the premise that in other circumstances boys shouldn’t be crying for joy which is dumb misanthropic bullshit

My big issue is that he's 17. Some people were up in arms that folks went after Trump's "kids" who were adults working on his campaign or in the White House.
When I (somewhat unexpectedly) qualified for state as a freshmen wrestler I committed the cardinal sin of smiling while receiving my medal and my coach told some of the other guys to tell me to knock that shit off. Heaven help me when next week the local paper ran that picture front page(small town)
Imagine being surrounded by thousands of people cheering for your Dad in these circumstances, and not allowing yourself to feel the joy in that moment because you think emotions are embarrassing or whatever.
Obnoxious mom story: My husband is a big crier. This may be why our boys cry easily. I rarely cry. But when my eldest got to a certain age he insisted 'mens don't cry' (he said it like this) so I went and asked a bunch of nearby men if this is true and they were all adamant it was NOT and men DO cry
Yeah, because if weren't nuerodivergent it would be totally fine and normal for adults who don't even know him to mock him for being emotional and loving his dad
100% - watching him feel that pride, a thing that I, having a child, only HOPE to achieve one day (and many times there over) brought proud tears to MY eyes. This is the kind of shit that deserves scorn, and I look forward to engaging anyone person to person who dares use this as an attack.
I can think of five songs right off the top of my head that make me choke up. It's like the right is on a campaign to suppress every single human emotion except disgust and anger.
I think it said he has a form of autism, causing a severe learning disability. I’m sure it is more complicated, but that was my understanding. He just turned 17, his disability is apparent, so it’s just mean as hell for them to attack Walz child they clearly love and are so proud of. 💔💔💔
Yep. The kid doesn't need a "condition" to excuse being overwhelmed with pride and love for his dad. That's not a thing that needs "excusing." Weird that the supposed "family values" folks find it something to mock.
100% agree. People can show emotional joy when met with huge heartfelt moments. Or even small ones! With what little publicized REAL joy we see online why do we gotta turn it into a bad thing too smh
His entire family was weepy, the idea that the son had some sort of responsibility to be emotionally stoic is fucking gross.
It feels good to express a sincere and powerfully felt emotion, and boys and men can and should have permission to do so, regardless of whatever conditions they have!
Broke: hey, he's disabled don't be mean
Woke: Hey, why are you making fun of a kid happy for his dad?
Bespoke: What the fuck is wrong with you people?!
This is the first I've heard anything about Gus Walz having any disabilities. All I saw in that picture was a teenage boy super proud of his dad and experiencing human emotions that were leaking out of his face. I truly pity anyone who looks at that picture and thinks he is deserves mockery.
I mean, I don't remember the context, but that was a dude who clearly did not have a hang up about letting the tears flow, and his original fans thought it was worth documenting. So it puzzles me why so many White Christian Nationalist types get their undies in a twist about it.
In the moment my thought was that the Walzes are outstanding parents - they raised their kids to be unashamed of expressing their feelings and they all love each other fiercely. I didn’t even know Gus was neurodivergent until this morning.
I was given to understand that he is not nonverbal; he has ADHD and a nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD). Using "dumb" pejoratively is still uncool, though.

Way to fucking pathologize everything disabled people do.
these people are sick.
also society: NO NOT LIKE THAT
I was crying tears of joy at the Harris-Walz rally in Milwaukee. I'm not neurodivergent. Let guys be happy/sad/whatever ffs
Lord knows most men including myself don't really know what that is.
Crying *with joy*, even!

'nuff said.
anyone talking shit on gus walz is just projecting since their kids don't love them.
"THAT"S MY DAD!" was a beautiful scene that gave me the chills.
I need to turn my sorrow into action for every disabled person. My family is chock full.
These people are EVIL, pure evil.
I was always just like "damn, seems perfectly reasonable to cry for joy in this situation!"
"Hey arsehole, what is wrong with you?" approach in general.
Good for him, being happy for his dad.
That's because they're mentally unwell. Their ability to feel other people's emotions is wider malformed or mutilated.
There's something irredeemable and foul about attacking a kid *for their neurodivergence*, which is exactly what Coulter and her fellow scum did.
Same team, I guess.
Other than that, though, I strongly agree.
