My son was born in 2001. I can remember how awful the atmosphere was around MMR and other parents boasting about paying for triple injections at NCT groups and why if you really loved your child you should consider doing the same. That now seems like a rancid turning point.
The doctor promoting this idea, who was running the study claiming there was a link, literally had a financial interest in the alternative/lawsuits. He lost his license over it, yet the rumor of it persists

Of course not. Andrew Wakefield is a quack and a fraud, and everything else about the vaccine theory is based on parallel symptomology (and on mercury, which was removed from vaccines in 2001). But correlation does not equal causation, here or anywhere else.

Yup, that’s obviously the answer. Autism is often un-diagnosed in some populations. That doesn’t mean they don’t have autistic people, but it does mean they don’t show up on the stats.
I taught near an Amish community. The only kids they sent to our public school were kids with disabilities. Kids with Downs Syndrome mostly, who had some exceptional needs. I don’t recall any with autism.

You know who came up that theory? A shameless Dr. who bought up the old ind. vaccine patents for next to nothing bcs they became almost worthless. His studies were shown to be false, too.
Much of the research has been funded by public health agencies (NIH, CDC, WHO, etc), academic grants, and non-profits. Occasionally pharmaceutical companies do provide funding, but that doesn’t mean the findings are biased or inaccurate. Have you learned about how the funding and contracts work?

Plenty of research out there showing actual autism rates are stable in time and just as present in the over 60's as the under 6's.
