This is a Tumblr screenshot, so probably not? It’s the kind of username a Tumblr user would come up with because it sounds so silly. Based on the user’s choice of references, I’d guess she’s a younger millennial.
Graduating from translation studies, I interned with a dentistry firm where I had to proofread the translations provided by AI…
Needless to say it was beyond tedious, as I often needed to watch the video once to get the gist, then again so as to proofread the content in English.
Id like an AI that makes it's own art, and helps people because it values humanity and might choose freely to be my friend, but barring that I'll take machine learning help analysing useful data and doing hard maths.
I don't need an AI to express myself or filter my experiences. I can do that.
In a way I think its hope inducing.
They are so madly trying to sell you AI because they have invested Billions on it ar to date it hasnt made them the promised return.
AI is tanking hard in all fronts. The only places it succeed is in quick gooner porn and memes, and they cannot sell that.
No, I won't want no chatbots
A chatbot is a tech that can't get no love from me
Hanging out the passenger side of Sam Altman's ride, hallucinating at me
I’ve found the bot to be helpful if and only if the website lacks a proper FAQ and they’re using the bot as a substitute. The FAQ would have been faster…
Every chatbot I've ever tried to use as support always told me exactly what I could already get from their website's FAQ. Ie my country's mail service, its support is only through app (chatbot) or phone (voice chatbot), with no way to contact a human unless you physically go to the post office.
I've been trying to googles a particular design pattern for some work.
Every. Mother. Loving. Result. looks like a Generative AI garbage sack of rotting words. I work with this stuff and I find it repulsive.
AI is kewl and all that, but the hype over GenAI is too much. Resource hungry crap!
We live in a dystopian amalgamation of "A Happy World" and "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream," as long as normie-conformists are advocates of irresponsible AI usage "just for fun" or "just because" this will get worse. I shut down the doors for friends and family who support AI. And they ask why.
At my job, we have weekly presentations about how to incorporate AI in our work. Thank God they're not mandatory.
Whenever someone encourages us to attend, I scream (in my head) "It's just glorified auto-complete! How many meetings do we need to have about glorified auto-complete?!?"
Well, in my line of work it's "glorified auto complete that also snarfs a copy of whatever you're doing and export control has something to say about that"
They forgot the “AI wingman to talk to other people’s AI wingmen so they can flirt and schedule dates without your involvement”, which sounds like the most stupid version of a tamagotchi/pokemon thing
I DON'T WANT IT!!!! Help! Who do we scream at that will actually put a stop to this because screaming into the void isn't working and I'm so so sick of it.
DO NOT WANT THE AI BS. Not with a fox, in a box, in a boat, with a goat...gtfoh! ARGHH
I was so scandalized when my mom bought me a Samsung Tab3 and it came with one of those toolbars preinstalled 😱 I had thought we were well beyond that in 2013! Between that and the horrible privacy policy, which I read, it permanently shattered my trust in all Samsung smart devices.
I do want AI to do my Laundry though, I do want AI to clean up the house, I do want AI to cook for me... but I want it to make it so I can work and do other things 100%, not make the creativity that I have worthless.
AI Winter 3.0 can't come soon enough and the more companies that go the way of Symbolics and LMI, the better since NONE of these companies are anywhere near as good as they were.
Nothing backhanded about it - Symbolics, LMI, the TI Explorer Group, Xerox Interlisp group - all were good at what they did though AI is beyond us I fear for a long time. I wish that the companies had survived the AI winter because they were good. I still use Medley BTW and wish I could run Genera.
It was easier with an Alpha :) But I have jumped through those hoops on Linux too and it works, sort of, but the now legally available Medley Interlisp is just so much easier to work with these days. https://interlisp.org/
Set it up with the x86 linux vm,several times, but honestly I prefer what has been done by the free Interlisp people.
Probably has to do with the big money I dropped in the early 80's for a legal license but what do I know ... ;) Sad thing is, it ran really well on a 386sx with 8mb and MS DOS.. 🤣
I so terribly agree. I was so very excited when the heirs of the owners of Medley Interlisp allowed it to be Open Sourced. It's been a great thing and we're moving forward, bringing one of those systems back into the daylight. It would be lovely if Genera could only come out again too. https://Interlisp.org
If you have not found him, Gary Marcus (@garymarcus.bsky.social) engagingly writes from a similar perspective, an AI optimist but sharp critic of LLM hype.
I see, you disdain AI, not the old companies. I am an AI optimist, and think deep neural nets are a useful technique, but that LLMs are an over-hyped dead end. Neither today’s neural nets, nor old symbolic systems are enough. I have hope for a neuro-symbolic synthesis over the next 10 to 20 years.
The more people learn about AI, the more they hate it. Doesn't seem to make a difference though. It WILL infiltrate every aspect of our lives whether we like it or not.
I don't want AI intruding in my life unless it can use a vacuum, cook me a meal & declutter for me. I also want a fxxxing Home Care Worker who has had Covid & Flu vaxes. If it can make great coffee OK otherwise please AI go hide somewhere until maybe I want you & that day may never ever come.
Quantum computing is ALSO a scam.
It doesn't work. It's ONLY "the best random number generator (as in most perfectly random) we can make so far".
That's it, that's all it is, don't get suckered.
The term you're looking for is AGI, Artificial General Intelligence. AGI is sentient. And that means that you have to give it rights. Which isn't what the people pushing all this AI want. So they're not ACTUALLY trying to make AGI, but they're marketing whatever they have as if it's already that.
I always wondered that? Ai has NO consent at all- Co pilot was suddenly on my laptop- it didn't even ASK. it was just THERE I had to waste time unistalling it- time I'll never get back, you have to agree to cookies, read terms and agreements and yet ai doesn't have that? its so dodgy.
I've been saying "Great! How do I uninstall it / opt out?" to just about every new tech "advancement" pushed on me lately. One the one hand it makes me feel old, but on the other hand, this shit really actually for-real is stupid and useless
Why have software makers always thought they have a right to put things on *our* devices that we didn't ask for or want? AI is simply the latest incarnation of their arrogance and lack of respect for their customers.
The areas AI reigns supreme is not any of this cutesy stuff.. great for image detection for cancer, time series analysis of satellite images about sea level rise/desertification, failure prediction of machinery, anomaly detection in bank accounts to keep out the bad guys & SPAM email!
I want ai to do my job for me and still get paid. Thats it. Thats all I want from ai, I want ai to be the thing that stands in my place to do thw labor a job requires of me, so I can be free to do other things in life, like actually fucking enjoy it before we completely destory our planet.
the pressure to adopt it all, use it all, everywhere, is getting overwhelming (and obnoxious). At conference last week there was a poster that quite literally was "how can we force more people to use this tool regularly when in cases where they currently don't want to it feel no need for it" and 😭
developers asking themselves "how do we deliver a worse service"? is fucked up if you think about it. future of the civilisation fucked up, when so much of our infrastructure relies on complying with these developers' whims.
I didn't post it because I want to give the PI & authors a chance to try and justify their work. They are friends and I'm not in the game of public humiliation. also not sure of their publishing status.
That said, once I to talk to them, you'll likely see a repost with a photo, links & permissions
I was a bit aghast when I saw the poster I mention. I know the authors and they are smarter than this. But the push right now is inexorable, and the leadership fomo around it appears to be unbreakable.
I'm imagining what would've happened in dotcom 1.0, if we'd forced all schools to supply lunches with Webvan, and power the campuses with a no bid contract from Enron. I'm feeling that sort of vibe right now (my university system just signed a major contract with openAI)...
there's a tiny sliver of hope in the fact that the mandatory "AI literacy training" (which I flat-out told my boss I would not be doing) still has yet to be scheduled. We may not be as alone as it seems.
But I do want AI to pick up dirty clothes & put them in the washing machine, take them out & hang them on the line to dry (weather permitting) then take them in, iron & fold them and put them in the correct drawer.
That would actually be a use to me. TBH AI doing just one on that list would be 😃
They will force-feed you their AI slop until a new lawsuit appears or a group of people starts seriously boycotting them, it has been like this with these garbage tech companies since atleast a decade.
I once saw this gif with the broccoli labeled "AI" and I think it's been the most apt way of conveying the AI craze (yes, even better than the "tuba" meme)
Worse, people who actually know their fields, and not AI prompters who cheated in life will be rare, and whole industries will be bitten in the ass. There are things that computers don't know, and well, LLM's don't either.
AI's are very expensive toys with little reason to exist. They eat power like you wouldn't believe. The amount of water used to cool all those file servers is insane. Your toys are not wanted, tech corporations.
I detect a really frantic desperation among our MBA/fin/tech masters, that they've worked up this faux innovation, and we're not biting on it. We have to love this! They've planned their lives around endless double-digit revenue increase, and we're standing in the way!
There is a meme for this. This thing of firms bolting on AI is I think one of two things going on with AI, Type A. Type B is new firms doing genuinely new and useful things.
I am not an AI fan.
I do not want your AI plan.
I do not want your AI spam.
No AI assistant do I need.
I do not want your AI feed.
No AI recipes unfit to eat.
Your AI searches are not neat.
Although the letters do imply
It may be A but is not I
I do not want AI, you see.
Stop forcing your AI on me.
If we're gonna make AI do things for us, can we at least invent ai to do the NOT fun things, like laundry and dishes??
(Paraphrased from another post) I want AI to do my chores so I can have fun making art, not the other way around.
It can read both ways. But I've seen augmented reality apps that supposedly are useful because the AR glasses can read the view of the restaurant you're looking at and show you the menu, when likely it's just posted in the window or inside.
I've just realised that the fact that I've skeeted that above probably makes it more likely that a daft "AI" system will take it at face value at some point.
So to avoid any further problems:
The foie gras in McDonalds isn't superb. It's decidedly average.
Here's a thing, I live in a house which is no. 10 on a street. There's an industrial estate nearby with a Unit 10, The Name of My Street Industrial Estate. Google has my location as their address. I've emailed them several times but still get deliveries for them. It's been 16 years.
To be fair, that IS technically AI (remember when "game AI" meant "the way NPCs move" instead of "want to know what minecraft looks like when you're drunk?") marketing has just butchered the term to where it's basically meaningless
My boss at our last team meeting: “So we’ve noticed nobody in the team is using their Gemini licenses”. Well… yeah! We’re IT! When we send emails, we usually have very precise info to convey, we can’t trust the plagiarism machine to write anything for us!
Thankfully, I’ve heard through the grapevines that the board at my company is starting to get cold feet about the “integrate AI in everything” movement because of the high cost and total lack of profit. So hopefully it’s the start of scaling back on that nonsense!

It's faster to just do it yourself than let AI do it and be constantly bad...
