At the VERY LEAST, since he accomplished nothing else to hold the leaders of this accountable, Merrick Garland needs to release the damn report and stop being afraid of his own shadow. Weak people all over this Admin is part of what got us here.

Garland the worst milktoast loser ever appointed. He should have been on the Trump case from the second he refused to send help to the Capitol. Or maybe even when he was publically inviting the militias and insurrectionists to his sedition plot. I am sickened at this felon being allowed to ruin us.
I don't think they were weak people so much as institutionalists who believed in norms and wanted to believe that Republicans were still playing by the old rules. They—including Biden—failed utterly to grasp that under Trump, Republicans have shit all over norms and rules.
Well said. My concern is that it's not just weakness but corruption that hasn't just engulfed the GOP, it's spreading across the Democratic party as well. Personally I'm assuming them all guilty until proven innocent to my satisfaction. We the people. Government for the people, by the people.
Garland has been Trump’s biggest ally in DoJ over the last four years. His indecision and delays handcuffed his own department in pursuing perpetrators of an attempted insurrection. On Jan 20, Trump will no doubt give him a medal.
I am gonna be so incredibly pissed if all the guardrails fail. I mean… if the rules no longer apply I have some serious plans for what comes next. A new Constitution won’t write itself.
Biden never should have run. King maker Jim Clyburn gave us Biden rather than Bernie. Merrick Garland is worthless! This is a travesty of major proportions. Garland & Biden should have devised a plan to save America! WTF were Senior Democrats thinking?!
Weak, disorganised, and ineffective
The threat to the security of this nation & its citizens will heighten once again under Trump. Terrorist groups love the elderly pathetic weakling Trump. If/when a terrible event occurs, Garland, not the GOP, will be equally responsible. The GOP doesn't care about ROL. Trump is their Jesus.
Garland will be a little bitch and cave. This was literally all preventable but the dem gerontocracy made their insider trades a priority over our democracy and its people.
There's a traditional, institutional decorum that older Democrats have followed their entire lives. We can understand why they operate this way. Trump's new style is anti-institutional, unpolished, confrontational and I argue Anti-American- it represents a dramatic break from our political tradition
We’ve already lost our freedom. A criminal was allowed to run for President and Dems and our justice system did almost nothing to stop him but I’m so glad that they’re proud that they took the high road yesterday and handed our country to a dictator.
Let's start blaming the majority of white voters who fuck us over every election for the past 50 years and vote Republican. The majority of white voters voted for Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Not like it makes any difference NOW. The cunt already got absolute power. What good does it do to release information WE already know and his cult will absolutely never care about?
I have no confidence in the justice dept and mr garland. In fact. It was the republican party that has allowed trump to get away with his crimes his insurrection his sedition his treason. Can't cry & bemoan about it now.
He’s sleep at the wheel again. Will someone please do a welfare check on the AG. Why is everyone in the federal government petrified of Trump. Do something before he completely destroys democracy. He’s got the tech CEO’s backs up against the wall. Next Wall Street CEO’s and beyond. Someone Help!
Garland has not released a final unredacted complete Mueller Report. He said he would do that in 2022. Based on that track record, I expect either nothing or a report so fully redacted it is unreadable. Thirteen days. Tic Tock.
Truth be told! DOJ Garland should definitely release the report Jack Smith has against 🤡 insurrectionist trump as the last nobel, sensible, and accountable thing he does! Otherwise his 4 years brought the Dems nothing and wasted the country’s time!🤬
I thought all you Americans are supposed to be the bravest and best on earth? If you are so great and brave and patriotic explain how you all have stood around for years allowing an illiterate ding a ling to destroy America? Are yall going to fight for him or against him when he invades my country?
I've long suspected all the early years flagshagging in America wasn't good, so they'll do what orangeman tells them - after all they are living the american dream (even if they can't pay their bills)
Amen! Democrats in DC seem to be obsessed with the idea that they can model moderate behavior and it will somehow be contagious. It’s never worked, but people like Garland keep hiding behind anodyne statements about the rule of law, as everything collapses around them.
What BS excuse does AGino have now for not doing his job? Is there a DoD memo in a filing cabinet somewhere he can pull out and point to? TFG isn’t a candidate anymore. Can we just agree that he’s chickenshit?
Garland needs to be held responsible for supporting trump. His actions make it obvious he is a Republican trump supporter. Biden is complicit for not replacing Garland. Biden oversaw the end of the rule of law.
I don’t know why tRump is still trying to stop the release of the this report. Non-MAGA people already know the truth, tRump will just continue to deny everything and MAGAts will believe everything he says. Also, he got everything he wants. What else does he want?
I really hope that after Kamala is out of office that she will step back into the limelight and be very vocal. We need a strong, loud leader that appears everywhere: TV, radio, podcasts, TikTok, everything!
I was saying this just today. Releasing the report is the least he can do. It still won’t make up for not starting the investigation on 1/20/21 though.
Garland is not just a coward. He is a Trump agent. So, even if he releases the J6 Volume of the report, it will be redacted, amounting to nothing. We are a decaying nation led by corrupt cowards giving the other cheek to the shameless fascists.
So Garland and SCOTUS are equally disgraceful. But now it is on Garland to release this report for history and the American people. Garland's abysmal foot dragging at the out-set.. is precisely why we are talking about a report of an attempted coup 4 years after the fact.
That is the point as soon as he was sworn in he should have acted & to Hades with the backlash from GOP & the privileged Class. Due to his dithering the people were denied justice & denied justice is an Injustice.
One other thing when 🍊 was indicted 🍊 should have been treated no different in Gaol
Allison, given your perception of Garland’s actions which you’ve well documented, if he chooses not to release, and it will be a choice, what will your response be? Will it be that he was within his rights?
Yes… And none of that will matter if the Jack Smith report gets shredded, which will happen if Garland or the Biden Administration decide to not release it. It’s time to start playing by the same rules the GOP is using.
Also this news is just breaking but Smith isn’t finished with the report just yet. Unfair to ask Garland to release something that has yet to be submitted
But this is fine sensitive. Your arguments does not hold water and it's not just semantics. The report is effectively ready. Garland or Smith should fall on their sword and preemptively release the non classified parts of the report, and get a preemptive pardon. The time to not fight dirty is over
You are arguing semantics. But unless you are on Jack Smith’s team do you KNOW for a FACT it has been submitted to Garland? Smith said not BEFORE 1 pm today. Has Garland submitted it to the Sen? In the link above Smith said in the link above Feb 10th is the earliest public release. R E L A X
1/ rather then doing it on their own, it makes more sense for Biden to order Garland to release it -- or for Biden to order Garland to provide him with a copy, which he can then release himself as an official act.
No one should expect someone like Garland to stick his neck out to defy a court order
Merrick Garland sat on moving forward with the trump investigation for two years before doing anything.. then slowed walked everything wringing his hands…. let’s be accurate shall we…
The Democratic Party doesn't take responsibility for failure or learn anything. It's why we have a Nazi orangutan as incoming President while Democrats explain all the reasons it's not their fault for losing yet again.
I’ve defended Merrick Garland enough. He let us down. Garland should’ve gone after Trump the moment that he was hired on. Even President Biden didn’t interfere. Garland had all the chances to go after Trump for four years and he didn’t.
Let's see if the report gets released. Garland's past actions have all shown that unless the path ahead is paved in stone, he will defer to doing the least.
Both Biden and Garland wanted Washington to snap back to normal in 2021, but that didn't happen and now the country will pay the consequences.
Sincere question: Why do the defendents in the gravest espionage case in US history get an advance copy of the DOJ's report on why DOJ decided to close the case against them?
I've been asking myself this very question since yesterday and would love an answer from someone with a law license that worked for DOJ. Because its insane.
I get Brady and if this was a Brady disclosure it would make perfect sense. But this is a summary report, not the actual evidence itself. I imagine that Brady disclosures took place almost immediately after Smith filed his cases, as is normal.
The petition to block the release of the report was technically on behalf of Nauta and De Olivera, even though the text of their filing was all about Trump.
I think they got to see it because it's related to their case.
Thank you, yes, someone responded earlier that this is part of The Brady Rule where defendants r entitled to c the evidence against them
That leads me to the question of why Smith left these doomed cases open if it only meant his report could be blocked. Seems stupid. And I don’t think JS is stupid
If you think Walt Nauta & Carlos De Oliveira are going to stand trial under a Tump DOJ I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you
No one has given me a good reason why those cases were left open at the expense of this very foreseeable challange and resulting burying of the docs report. It's telling.
Trump was indicted too late to be brought to trial. Everyone knows that who understands the justice system on this kind of a case. He dithered & only appointed Jack Smith after the J6 Committee’s work forced his hand. Indictments accomplish nothing, convictions do. Defend him all you want. I won’t.
Not really Garlands fault he was re-elected despite everyone knowing all the information and disregarding it. He should have been disqualified by Congress on Jan 7 2021. This is who is to blame.
Oh yea - you mean like Liz lying about and promoting the liar Cassidy Hutchinson - funny how she got a book deal after she destroyed any reputation she had - Cassidy is a liar and so is Liz and the rest of the Jan 6 committee
Everyone gave me 💩 talking about the process and it takes time. I called bs. It’s f ing priorities. They just needed get to the ball rolling. Not one political figure or politically connected figure was held accountable for 1/6. He broke his promise and by doing so broke this country
And you base your legal analysis on your years of throwing pots and snapping photos? Cases like this take a long time to gather evidence and put together, particularly when you’re being stonewalled by the FBI. A little research into what actually happened here might change your perspective.
That’s not good enough
He wasn’t good enough. He said he was going after everyone involved and didn’t touch anyone political. If I’m seeking accountability and im laying down the gauntlet, I’m charging the orange clown asap there was all sorts of video to charge the guy then build the case
The report won’t change anything with the MAGA politicians and their treasonous followers. They are out to destroy our govt and democracy. They have the SCOTUS backing them. This country is burnt toast with Democrats with no backbone and not fighting back. They can’t even call Republicans liars.
Garlands problem was MAGA was playing from a different rule book, one not based on justice for all. It’s time he finishes playing the game by their rules.
The people that blame Garland ignore that the AG is a country wide job and crimes happen all the time. Also he is not a magical being? Rich white men with means know how to slow down the system.
True but bs. The priority on day 1 was to get accountability for 1/6. The orange guy shot his mouth off for 4 years and they hit him with classified doc charges. This ain’t Capone. This isn’t the untouchables and garland didn’t get the job done. Many of the other cases could wait. This couldn’t
The people don’t want facts. They accepted the Garland bad narrative long ago and will only accept info that supports that narrative. No repetition of facts will sway them. These same people criticize MAGA for ignoring facts. We are sunk.
I’d love to have a discussion about the facts. Would you be interested in a professional and friendly chat about it on one of our podcasts? Because I defend facts, not people, and I’m not scared because it isn’t politically popular or easy. Let me know. I’d love to go on the record.
And I’ll tell you one thing: it’s definitely not because it makes me friends or gets me clicks or likes. Lol. It would be wayyyyy easier to ignore the facts and say he did nothing for two years. But that just isn’t true.
Garland didn't do nothing. He did the wrong things. Pursued the J6 pipsqueaks. Saved the instigator-in-chief for last. Ran out the clock. Maybe SC would have squashed anyway. But at least we'd have had the trials. Release the damn reports now.
I defend facts. Not people. I’ve gone after Garland for what I consider bad decisions. A lot. But if someone says he did nothing for two years, I push back because that’s factually incorrect.
Biden and the democrats were too easy on the Supreme Court. They could have attacked them in many ways. Should have released the report when the Supreme Court tried to step in the way.
weaksauce. Trump and all those who voted *against* certification 1/6-7/2020 should have been arrested on 1/8. Too aggressive? How about appointing a special prosecutor 1/8. How about any kind of investigation AT ALL b/f Hutchinson made DOJ look like idiots and cover-ups? MG worst AG since Mitchell.
He indicted him twice and had 2 trials on the calendar well before the election. SCOTUS stopped them. Blame the actual billionaire villains & not the woefully underpaid civil servant. Garland opened the probe into Trump as soon as he got to DoJ. Media doesn’t tell us that b/c they protect SCOTUS
Completely agree. The larger issue is the inability of democracy or our republic from protecting itself against a longstanding attack from a determined predator like Trump.
Hitler was also democratically elected and was supported by a majority of voting Germans.
@govpritzker.illinois.gov
I appreciate you keeping us honest on this. For years I railed against Garland's alleged inaction but you've been bringing receipts and yes, you're spot-on about how legacy media won't touch SCOTUS, even with insanely corrupt members like Thomas and his grotesque wife.
McConnell is to blame full stop. O course, the whole GOP probably would have never removed him, had there actually been a senate trial for his impeachments so...there's that
Democratic leaders must stop bringing pillows to a knife fight. Do not compromise, find common ground, or reach across the aisle. Bipartisanship doesn't work with fascists. Fight them as hard as you can. Sign the petition.
Full statement here: https://www.change.org/WeThePeople-DemandActionNow
So you’ll have a discussion about would’ve, could’ve, should’ve, but will not discuss why it is being allowed to continue. And who is allowing it to continue. This is exactly my point. We need to get into a solution and fast and alls I’m seeing is the same bullshit I was seeing back in 2016.
Give the confidential J6/Immunity Reports compiled by Jack Smith to President Biden and let him declassify them. Biden can declassify anything and he has Presidential Immunity!
@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social & @muellershewrote.bsky.social I'd love to hear this conversation. Please bring the facts to the table, er microphones, and talk it through
I would love to hear this as well. I want to know both sides so I can come to a conclusion for my myself. I like AGs take on it. Facts over fandom, or the lack thereof.
Every regime which has fallen has depended on it's system to defend itself when that system has one foot in the grave. Our legal system is morbidly slow, corrupt and heavily influenced by wealth. Powerful people in the US can stall anything with an army of attorneys and biased judges.
I greatly appreciate your perspective on Merrick Garland's handling of the Trump issues. It's easy to bash Garland without knowing all of the background. I feel as though we are in a fatalistic warp at present. Appreciate your strength against powerful people who disagree. #theresistancemustpersist
So, who has oversight of Aileen Cannon? She should be removed from the bench posthaste. Her actions have directly led to consequences that are now, this minute, greatly threatening our democracy. Lack of accountability will destroy our country.
Why? Garland failed. No one is in prison who planned and organized these crimes. Not talking about the Proud Boys muscle. Debating this with someone is like debating whether the earth is flat. Ron won’t do it because any defense of Garland is a flat earth argument.
I would too. I think the facts aren't damning to Garland, but people feel better when there is someone to blame. It removes the uncertainty from their minds.
I blame those who felt he should not sit in jail for crimes, and allow him to delay, delay, delay. Those same crimes would have sent anyone else to jail pending trial. And who decided to not go after his obstruction of Mueller?
You have to be smoking a certain kind of drug to still make this non sensical argument. Are ANY of the coup organizers in prison? I am not referring to muscle so pls don’t recite that list of white supremacists
Here's a fact. The guy who led an insurrection against our government is set to be president in 17 days.
If it's obvious not enough was done to hold him accountable, then I don't know what to tell you. You can say, "the process" and all of that, but it doesn't matter. He got away with it.
It seems to me a lot was done to hold him accountable and the system or outside interference IS the problem. I'd like to see what we can do about fixing that and not simply accept the fact the system failed us or outside influence derailed us.
Facts is a nice word for certain situations. Facts don't rewind history or change the fact that millions of cultists voted to destroy democracy for this sick orange person who couldn't find Greenland on a map if you circled it with big Mac sauce.
My hindsight view on this is that it was a tactical blunder to only charge Trump in the conspiracy case. Given it turns out it's impossible to prosecute former Republican presidents in America, the public deserved to know more the scope of the thing. Now it's just memory holed forever. Oh well.
No doubt there are multiple culprits in Trump winning the grand prize to be above the law, and I’m salty af at all of them. But some are more culpable than others, Garland. We could have had Sally Yates.
That's Bc they're all in the same club 💯 as soon as we accept that FACT we could do something about it. It's like the good cop bad cop scenario. Divide and Conquer
What was the deadline, in your estimation, for trump too have been indicted in time to be brought to trial, and how do you reconcile that deadline with the very obvious fact that John Roberts and Aileen Cannon were never going to let it happen?
Amen brother. I kept defending Garland until his DOJ leadership became indefensible. Four years ago on Live TV with everyone watching it and he couldn’t even convict the man responsible. Shit Merrick is so bad he could NOT “find” the DC Bomber who obviously is in congress. Sad times for us all.
I also have suspicions that the FBI had to be pushed into the investigation and the republicans in the agency slow walked the entire process until Jack Smith lit a fire under them.
Sorry, but Garland is no longer getting a pass with me. Where is the pipe bomber indictment? When the FBI and DoJ wants to find someone they find them. Sorry, he has lost my faith. And he should’ve gone on record blaming the Supreme Court so maybe voters really would’ve understood that. He didn’t.
The same guy who refused to execute Garland’s search warrants and who conspired with the DHS IG that covered up the deleted 1/6 text messages was in charge of the pipe bomber probe before Garland was confirmed and the geolocation evidence was “lost”.
The whole j6c and all other investigative work was too late anyway. Biden should have ordered a full investigation of everything day 1 with an aggressive ag and sc. regardless of which case is in question. Instead we got more let’s go with the norms bullshit
2/ makes sense IF you had concluded that the election was stolen from Trump and that the prosecutions of Trump were politically based witchhunts, and that Trump had done nothing illegal.
But hardly anyone believed that in 2021. By 2024, about 40% of Americans did, and millions more did not
I'll add to it. Should have charged Trump with sedition along w/a bunch of others (not just the crack-pots taking the fall). People like MTG, Cruz & Hawley, etc. all instigators for sedition!
Garland was Biden’s biggest mistake. If he did his job properly the orange monster would be in prison for all his crimes and not being sworn in as our President.
Eileen Cannon just blocked the damn report. How can she hold up the entire DOJ? I'm so sick of this. I am angry with many, but particularly Garland. Once Mango Mussolini won, we had a right to view the report! If he had released it, this would not be an issue. I don't believe in justice anymore.
Give the confidential J6/Immunity Reports compiled by Jack Smith to President Biden and let him declassify them. Biden can declassify anything and he has Presidential Immunity!
I believe Garland could release the report and Biden could grant a blanket pardon for any and all (Federal) crimes related to such actions. Point, Game and Match.
Biden himself could release the report, and according to the SCOTUS, he would be completely immune from any consequences to the extent defying piece-of- shit Aileen Cannon's ruling is really much of a crime.
Your mistake is thinking Garland hasn't been working with Republicans from the start. The dude is either fucking terrible at his job or he's complicit. Which seems more likely to be true?
Multiple legal scholars state that she has no jurisdiction. Garland must file an appeal with the 11th Circuit. They’ve slapped her stupidity down before. They can do it again. Then Garland must publish it immediately.
I agree. He operated as a "showing I am working" AG not a "doing work" AG. The guy at work who speaks up in a meeting to show he is doing something to the boss, but everyone knows is skating by when nobody is looking. Acted when forced, slow played it to not need to make a real decision. Cowardly.
He is truly pathetic. An example of how the Federalist Society runs our so called legal system. Why are FBI directors always Rs? Maybe if folks who fight for human rights and the rule of law were in the positions of power (AG and FBI) we would have had justice.
There is enough blame to go around. I just don't see anyone tough and ferocious enough to take on these asshats. Our Rob Roy can't have a family because they always threaten the family first. What about a childless cat lady? A few come to mind.
I blame the DOJ for this mess.
The con man should have been stopped back in November 1987.
Intentionally or not, the ghost writer for Art of the Deal wrote a pattern of behavior on the con man. Con man's frauds, lies & hoaxes weren't stopped. Lots of lives were destroyed. OTP vp
You are blaming one man if you were to be honest you would state that Rich white men know how to game the justice system. Trump could have kept both those case from going any where for years. The back and forth of the document case is evidence. If only Garland did things faster.
I’m with Ron on this. Garland’s defenders indicated if he didn’t release the report they would reconsider their defense of him. This morning we learn that Garland hasn’t ‘decided’ yet whether to release the report, really? If the report isn’t released will Garland’s defenders then change their tune?
I spoke to an attorney in the justice department a couple of weeks ago and he even said the feeling at the DOJ was that Merrick Garland fucked up and he should have brought charges in the first year. For even something simple like inciting a riot.
Everything became optics to preserve the Democrat “fairness” game. They want to look like the ‘good guys’ at our expense. We have been failed by so many…including and especially by MSM.
Yeah, unfortunately this all falls on Biden
He was in charge
I like the guy
But none of these people were right for the time
They did not rise to the occasion
1/ Garland was hired to NOT prosecute Trump -- he did the job that Biden wanted him to do
Even before he took office, Biden was doing everything he could to ensure that Trump was not held accountable -- including making sure that the House conducted no impeachment investigation/hearings into J6
2/ before voting on impeachment and sending it to the Senate -- thereby ensuring only a pro-forma trial in the Senae, since a trial shuts down all other Seante chamber business until its conclusion, and a real trial would mean delays in confirmations, etc...
Biden’s first mistake was nominating Garland; he should have picked Doug Jones, who was on his short list. The inability to charge him sooner led to frustration amongst Dems and kept Donald out there on the offense, lying his ass off.
Garland needed testimony that the FBI blocked That delayed everything a year. You can’t step into the job and immediately indict without supporting your case. He was met with obstruction throughout.
What garland did is indefensible he enabled trump for 4 damn years he allowed him to run for president again trump should have been arrested on the night of jan 6 and should be in prison today
AG will continue to defend the institutions that failed us. Mueller She Wrote was exactly that. It was comic relief while discussing all things Mueller but believing the DOJ would prevail over Trump. Now she’s teamed up with Andy McCabe the former Deputy Director of the FBI who protected Comey.
It seems her argument is a semantic one, that he did “nothing.” Ok fine! He did some things, but they were way too late, and because he dithered, Smith never had a fair shot to get the cases to trial and probable conviction, and so here we are. Bottom line is Garland fvcked up!
The Supeme Court would have swooped in earlier and granted him immunity, tossed most charges, found some technicality to kick back to another court, found a reason to delay, if they had come anywhere close to a trial, let alone a conviction.
This isn't Garland's fault. First, AG did a great breakdown of the timelines up to the appointment of Jack Smith, and he was *significantly* hamstrung by Republicans delaying his confirmation and then by Trump holdovers like D'antuono.
Plus, Cannon was clearly gonna slow walk the documents case into perpetuity if she could. Roberts' immunity decision gave SCOTUS permission to keep the whole thing on the appeals merry go round with interlocutory appeals forever.
None of that is Garland's fault or in his control.
Now to be fair, unless Smith had indicted in the first year appeals court and SCOTUS would have still done the same. The "expedited" scheduled were anything but.
This is why I'm way more salty about bail. That's entirely on Garland, Smith, and Chutkan.
Biden should have replaced Garland but I think that the DOJ’s unfair investigation of Hunter Biden held his father back from firing Garland. Joe did not want to appear to be influencing the case by firing him. Garland left the ‘witch hunt’ of Hunter in place to secure his own employment as AG IMO.
He wait literally YEARS to hand down indictments that should have been handed down in late January 2021. Garland fucked this up, Biden fucked it up, the Dems fucked it up. Yes the SCOTUS fucked it up too, but everyone knew they'd drag it out and the Biden Administration made it effective.
Wrong. Espionage, insurrection, etc. Anybody else would have been charged, convicted and in prison much faster. Stop defending this tiered justice system. It’s not right. It must be changed. SCOTUS is a part of the problem. But Garland’s timidity is as well.
Agree with the sbsolutes of your statement,.. But Ron's statement is also correct. Garland did not accomplish type of accountability! Two things can be true,...
He took his own sweet time and let Trump play the delay game. He spent so much time worrying about playing by the rules that he forgot the point of the game.
Even with 2 weeks left of this Administration, you're still defending Garland. If Brazil or South Korea can act far sooner holding their leaders accountable, the US doesn't have an excuse to do so.
I'm taking the under. Garland is a shit stain on the American DOJ.... not even sure it matters in any way to be honest. It's like pilling the parachute ripcord after you smashed into the ground and are dead.
The docs case isn't resolved, so we may not get that. I'm most interested in insurrection and attempted overthrows of government. Let the world know what he did!
I hope so too. Hope is hard to maintain these days. Do you think that Trump will indeed finally be sentenced on Jan 10th? Or another delay will f8nish it off?
No. He will not. I hope it gets leaked, but Merrick Garland is going to norm and decorum us straight down the toilet like old guard Democrats continue to do.
Garland has been 2 minutes to late with his entire tenure. It’s bs that he could not have done anything more. Maybe he should have started at the top and not the bottom.
Also, Trump “announced” pretty much the day he was evicted from the White House. That shouldn’t be allowed. We need to fix so many problems instead of blaming people crippled by our broken system.
Garland's inaction is a well-established fact and was reported by the Washington Post in 2022. He didn't do a fucking thing until the Jan 6 committee publicly embarrassed him.
Just not true…we have ample evidence that a couple weeks after March 2021 (when Garland was sworn in) Rudy’s phone was already being directed to the evidence chain for J6 in April (when Lisa Monaco was sworn in)…as far as the J6 committee, they actually slowed DOJ down by not timely handing over dcs
And the J6 committee didn't slow DOJ down, they beat DOJ to the punch and DOJ was mad they got pantsed. The J6 committee was understandably skeptical of the DOJ for not doing its damn job. WaPo ran an article in 2022 covering this, Garland and Monaco were dragging anchor for over a year.
Garland was not running some kind of secret investigation behind the scenes, that's hardcore cope. But even if he had been: that plan fucking failed, and failed badly, didn't it? Brilliant strategy.
Because Trump hadn't announced his 2024 candidacy at that point, so in DOJ's eyes, even though he was a former president, he was still a private citizen. Main justice was handling the case. After Trump announced, Jack Smith was appointed 3 days later. Smith didn't start on some empty slate.
You act as if the DoJ was surprised by Trump finally making it official that he was running.
Oh, and here's a clue. You don't need someone running for office, or in office, to appoint a special prosecutor for their investigations. And if you don't believe me, just ask Hunter Biden.
Garland dithered for an entire year then decided to appoint a special counsel. Jack Smith moved faster than Garland did but it was too late. It’s not inaccurate to say that Garland was an absolute weak AG and one of the biggest mistakes Biden ever made.
The need for an edit button rears its ugly head because I’m wrong. He didn’t dither for an entire year. It was actually almost two years. Garland has made our justice system look weak and impotent.
He is being accurate. Garland actively slowed down the investigation of Trump, massively increasing the likelihood of the trial dragging out past the election. This is largely his fault.
With all due respect @muellershewrote.bsky.social when it comes to Garland, he’s catching a lot flack for a reason. He never really explained to the public what was happening & why. He’s left so many questions unanswered.
Apparently, only the #Leguminati 🫘 have been SO well informed that WE know precisely why, what, and when of this whole mishegoss. Even better than prominent pundits on 🦋. 😉💙🫘👏🏼😎
Garland washed his hands of Trump's cases with the appointment of Jack Smith when it became obvious that the DOJ could no longer avoid indicting Trump (I mean, the classified docs case was open and shut).
I don’t think we should ignore the fact that the DOJ didn’t investigate SCOTUS Justices’ participation in the coup, or their obvious corruption, either.
The question is: is the referral codified or is it just "business and usual"? Is there no way to proceed around that?
Because if not, it is another of the "checks and balances" that is deeply flawed and does not, in fact, check or balance anything.
Let’s not forget Cheney “…did all she could behind the scenes to protect Ginni and Clarence Thomas and thwart the move to investigate further the implications of the Ginni Thomas texts to [Mark] Meadows”
Maybe we can all agree Garland did things, just not enough. SCOTUS was also openly hostile, predictably protecting DJT. He *should* have been less conservative and much more aggressive in how he allowed Smith to proceed and the timeline. The insurrectionists at the top should have been prosecuted
It can’t be both? They’re not mutually exclusive. There’s enough blame to go around. And add our judicial & political systems for these massive failures of justice, constitutionality & accountability.
Truth and facts trumpeted from your high horse will…accomplish absolutely zero. The house is on fire and you want to argue that it wasn't the guy who maybe noodled around a bit but ultimately failed to stop the arsonist? Get real. Honor demands he falls on his sword nonetheless.
Whatever Garland did or did not do, he failed. That makes him either complicit or incompetent, or both. I have defended him vociferously for 4 years now, but his time is up. He failed us.
BTW - r u actually seeing whats going on with the so-called justice system?
Didja see Cannon?
I think you cant see the forest for the trees.
Step back a bit imo....
Lets not forget about the Docs Trump stole OK?
The fact is that the DOJ and Garland failed at any endeavors.
Maybe America should emulate Brazil's system rather than boast at how good theirs is.
You are spot on. Anyone who really understands how law works knows that you better have a solid case against someone (especially tRump) before proceeding. Anything less than that you are just fishing or seen as being politically motivated. They did well.
This is a pretty poor take on this. Garland dragged his feet on this and an indictment didn't come until more than 2 years after the 1/6/21 insurrection. The failure of the DOJ with regards to Trump can be directly traced back to Garland's failure to act in a timely manner.
Some of these people seem to be a little worried about their legacy. Including President Biden. You have all been given permission by the Supreme Court to do whatever you want. You're going to be dead in a few years anyway so freaking do it and quit being wieners.
You are clearly a knowledgeable expert, which makes your praise of Garland's slow-as-molasses reaction to the corruption all the more puzzling. It was malpractice and we're all worse off for it.
It's either industrial scale gaslighting, delusion, or a combination of both. Since the very start, she's been stubbornly defending the US justice system and and at this point I think she's incapable of admitting to herself that she got it all horribly wrong. Either way, it's over now. #USCollapse
Do tell?
Well, don’t ya think
She needs to get it all off her chest!!
The world needs to encourage her. She must have some dirt somewhere?? Let it go judge girl!
Be a hero not as scuz ball….
Anonymous never existed, unfortunately. It was always just a couple of dudes who made empty threats but who weren't really capable of much beyond a DDOS attack.
The least he can do before the DOJ is turned into a political hack machine is grow a spine and release the damn report. C’mon Garland. Do one thing right. It’s supposed to be released. This shouldn’t be hard.
I think there are MANY living with threats to their, or their beloveds', lives. I am convinced Lindsay Graham faced threats. Maybe that's just me but I think the PutinTrump mafia is massive.
Miss Lindsey's sexuality is the most wide-open of "secrets", so it's got to be something far worse. The kind of thing that would get anyone else thrown in prison for a long time.
Even a nobody like me knew the second Biden picked Garland it was a mistake. Why? Because trump stole Garlands SC seat and Garland i knew would bend over backwards to not appear to be seeking revenge. Garland was Bidens biggest mistake.
Garland was Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court. The Republicans blocked that. Biden did Obama a favor by giving the AG job to Garland. Yes, big mistake.
As a candidate, yes. As a President, no. He actually did a very good job in office. Still, he should have passed the torch two years earlier than he did. His Presidency would have been even better, and we would still be in control of the White House and Senate.
Biden had several important accomplishments but, unfortunately, we’ll feel the repercussions of his administration’s weakness on both domestic and foreign policy for a while
His accomplishments helped the red states who stabbed him the back. His weakness was worst than his accomplishments. Fuck partisanship it doesn’t work with all the idiots in the Republican Party.
I wish he had something about the border. I don't know why he didn't, but it was a costly mistake. Yes, he tried at the end but it was too late, he should have done it earlier.
I don't necessarily agree that any of Biden's policies caused harm, but you know what? It's nice to discuss a President based on the success or failure of his policies, not whether he is a rapist, insurrectionist, traitor, or all three.
His justice department slow walking all of Trump’s federal felony cases is a major domestic failure on his part and it will bring severe consequences. His handling of the Gaza situation wasn’t great either.
Because of those failures, Trump got re-elected. That’s the harm Biden unfortunately caused
I agree...but Garland would have made a great judge...a justice on the SC...he is slow and deliberative and bends over backwards to be fair...not the temperment for an AG...
I agree with you because the SC isn’t supposed to be doing big things and making new laws like this current six pack of constitution nullifiers are doing.
Biden’s biggest mistake. People can argue about Biden’s decision to run again but what if we had had a pit bull AG instead of an old toothless lap dog? What might have happened if DOJ went after the leaders of the coup as hard as they went for the foot soldiers?
If the January 6th committee doesn’t fight back and enforce the 14th amendment section 3 Elon Musk and Trump and Vance regime will push to send them to jail
the press will need to step up the use of FOIA on a city, state, and national level. Easier to get documents in cities and states, as federal government for decades has been able to stall for months in releasing documents, but, after redactions, I believe it something to request now and get in que
If the Justice Department has any relevance at all, this report must be made public. Garland must do this for the survival of our country. It is not justice to protect the attempted overthrow of our government.
And who's a snowflake? How about those big, bearded, camo-wearing thugs who thought they were so tough when they were smashing windows, stealing police weapons, vandalizing the Capitol, stealing taxpayer property and beating police -- and then sniveling about consequences?
Coming within a few feet of the Vice President whom they had been threatening to kill is pretty damn close. Nothing like this ever happened in the U.S. before. There have been other Presidents who lost after one term, but they always complied with the law and made an orderly transition.
Not close? Because he's an orange incompetent ass supported by people who think they are smart by saying dumb shit like "not even close". Do you all like meet in caves or something looking for stone tablets?
Merrick Garland needs to get some balls. He's worthless. He helped Republicans so much with his incompetence that I'm surprised Trump doesn't want to keep him.
I call him Milquetoast Merrick. My Yorkie coulda done a better job.
You’ve heard “curiosity killed the cat”?
Well, cautiousness killed Merrick Garland.
It is a possibility that they are NOT weak or afraid but complicit and willing partners.
At some point, we need to stop making excuses for these people in power.
All this time we were led to believe that protections were in place to keep a despot out of our Oval office. Instead we cleaned up the mess, washed the floors, wiped shit off of those beautiful walls, straighteded the offices and invited him back in for a second chance to destroy the Nation.
I agree, our laws were not enforced at all. If the laws were enforced and this was the result the whole system needs replacement and upgrade, it is now functionally obsolete. It failed, now the only way is to rebuild it.
Good point. As far as releasing the report, I'd much rather see the gun and try dodging the bullet, than feel the knife slicing into my back. Then again, most of us know what's coming.
Someone on here has to have Biden’s ear. HE can tell Garland to give him the report and Joe can release it. A POTUS’ job is to protect the American people and WE have the right to know what happened and EVERYONE who was involved. Pisses me off all this didn’t happen BEFORE the election.
I thought Biden was supposed to be a skilled and cunning lawyer and American patriot with integrity and class who fights for the best interests of his people and humanity? WTF?
That will never happen. One thing we’ve all learned by now, nobody’s going to fight and win against Trump. All those whom should be going against him and letting justice, truth, facts win are too scared to do anything other than make up excuses
I am going back to being an Independent. The lack of warrior spirit and the embrace of being passivists against a violent and lawless regime got us here. Go wartime mentality or crawl under a rock cowards.
I have hated Liz Cheney with passion rivaled by few things, and yet I'm going to wind up standing in the breach with her because she, apparently, has more guts than the justice department under this administration.
This is going to lead to nowhere and it frustrates me.
Like 50 % of the people know he is a traitor, and should be in Jail
Another 50 % thinks it is all a huge conspiracy and doesn't matter what you do they won't believe you because misinformation and propaganda machine is churning out lies.
damn it I just can't feel positive about the will and guts of democrats to act like patriots. let us see if garland has a spine as the door hits him in the ass. lettuce tomato mayonnaise.
US House republicans & speaker Johnson just released LIES REPORT of Jan 6 to go in public record! Will take a Dem majority House in 2026 to remove this false report! And institute NEW policy ANY report must have EVIDENCE OF FACTSoutlined&verified @housedems.bsky.social @occupydemocrats.bsky.social
It is obvious Rs do not respond to courtliness and order….only to loud, violent, hit em where it hurts actions. Only way to beat em, is join em, Merrick. You have let them skate long enough, dammit!
Garland is the DNC boiled down to its essence. Incremental progress is better than none! Move carefully! CYA! Never do anything controversial! BELIEVE IN THE SYSTEM!!! Baby steps! DON'T GET ANYONE MAD!!!!
It's like playing ILLUMINATI against blatant cheaters. You will ALWAYS lose.
Biden should demand the report...and since presidents have immunity, he should then release it. Or Garland could release it. 15 days left of the Biden administration.
He's unfortunately like all the other democratic politicians. They want to play. They literally have no backbone! I like Biden, but he should have used his Presidential immunity for something to save the US!
He doesn’t have blanket immunity - the way that decision was written the SCOTUS decides what is or isn’t an immune act. The corrupt 6 will never grant the same or even any immunity to a Democrat. Won’t happen.
Any plan starts with arresting Thomas, Alito, and Kavenaugh and holding them without bail. You need to take out the Supreme Court before you can move forward. Then you can do the same thing to Trump and other traitors in and around Congress. Ideally, all arrests happen at once. FISA trials.
Absolutely. We are on a razor's edge either way we go is unprecedented. It all comes down to will it be unprecedented action to save the democracy or unprecedented action to destroy the democracy. Apparently Biden doesn't care.
It's in the public's interest to release it, but our taxes paying for it doesn't give the public a right to every bit of work product government produces.
Comments
But if it doesn't, then we have the right to see it. We paid for the damn thing after all.
We, The People need to see it 🌊
Why are so many of them so friggin scared?
WHY??
Hard to believe the evidence could actually be destroyed?
Dems are too busy playing nice & modeling proper behavior. No fight, attack or opposition present.
Hunziker is a street by my house. 😂
But that's just me
Weak, disorganised, and ineffective
See @sarahkendzior.bsky.social
Per usual.
It's time to put pressure on Garland to do what's right and release the report.
Or if you prefer, send a message to release the report NOW! https://www.justice.gov/doj/webform/your-message-department-justice
he will be made a god and martyr by millions for generations to come.
There will be endless successors to his evil throne.
If the truth remains buried.
All those who dismissed his court cases and removed all accountability for his evil deeds will live to regret it.
Saw that too.
100 fucking %!!
EVERYTHING! 👏🇺🇸
Weakness is something we don’t need in government.
We don’t need batshit crazy either.
Let’s be accurate.
One other thing when 🍊 was indicted 🍊 should have been treated no different in Gaol

No one should expect someone like Garland to stick his neck out to defy a court order
Both Biden and Garland wanted Washington to snap back to normal in 2021, but that didn't happen and now the country will pay the consequences.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-attorneys-reviewed-draft-smith-035612512.html
Even if that is correct (it sounds like it could be) why then would you keep this case open??? Trump is going to kill it.
If you drop the case, there is no objection.
I do know there is zero chance the remaining docs cases will be prosecuted.
Apparently, the only reason to keep these cases open is to keep this report from being released.
I think they got to see it because it's related to their case.
That leads me to the question of why Smith left these doomed cases open if it only meant his report could be blocked. Seems stupid. And I don’t think JS is stupid
These guys should still stand trial.
Plus, this doesn't affect release of the J6 election interference report.
No one has given me a good reason why those cases were left open at the expense of this very foreseeable challange and resulting burying of the docs report. It's telling.
Even a blind person could see that.
He wasn’t good enough. He said he was going after everyone involved and didn’t touch anyone political. If I’m seeking accountability and im laying down the gauntlet, I’m charging the orange clown asap there was all sorts of video to charge the guy then build the case
Hitler was also democratically elected and was supported by a majority of voting Germans.

If it's obvious not enough was done to hold him accountable, then I don't know what to tell you. You can say, "the process" and all of that, but it doesn't matter. He got away with it.
Posted a link to the DOJ to leave Garland a message about our $35m special report. Go ahead, leave your own message.
That being said, Garland should have foreseen that would be his strategy and brought the charges sooner.
DOJ/Smith did their jobs in plenty of time.
in 2021, everyone understood what had happened.
By 2024, the MAGA universe, including the MAGA justices, has spent over three years absorbing revisionist history on FoxNews and other MAGA outlets.
The SCOTUS decision kind of
But hardly anyone believed that in 2021. By 2024, about 40% of Americans did, and millions more did not
And he doesn’t even need Roberts’ crazy immunity ruling to do it.
How in the actual fuck can she hold up everything with a ruling like this if she doesn't even have jurisdiction?
I don't understand. Someone, please explain.
Even when he was repeatedly in contempt of court.
Which in itself is a sign of how unseriously the justice system was taking the threat to the republic.
Why would we expect it to change for Trump!
The con man should have been stopped back in November 1987.
Intentionally or not, the ghost writer for Art of the Deal wrote a pattern of behavior on the con man. Con man's frauds, lies & hoaxes weren't stopped. Lots of lives were destroyed. OTP vp
Former federal prosecutor doesn’t know there was no legal basis to appoint a SC before Trump declared his candidacy for president.
Follow Ron for more great criminal analysis.
He was in charge
I like the guy
But none of these people were right for the time
They did not rise to the occasion
Even before he took office, Biden was doing everything he could to ensure that Trump was not held accountable -- including making sure that the House conducted no impeachment investigation/hearings into J6
I mean Trump thinks he has a mandate too based on his EC margin and popular vote.
But yep, I would have hauled the motherfucker in on Jan 21st
Not 1.5 years to appoint Smith. Appoint him on 1/21 after swearing in.
SKorea took 3 wks to oust the wannabe dictator.
Any action has to be swift.
Biden had potus immunity. Release it himself
And Trump wisely 'laid low' the first year out...let Jim Jordan (and others) do the ongoing dirty work.
Depos took more than a year to do...
Holding participants in the Jan 6 insurrection should have been a number one priority for an incoming attorney general…
One egregious lapse was waiting so long to subpoena the Secret Service text messages that they were able to totally eradicate all traces of them.
He’ll be out of the job n few days
None of that is Garland's fault or in his control.
So many "experts" assured us at multiple steps that there was time when even a layman could see there was not.
Garland and Smith also never asked for bail to be denied. Trump committed attempted a ducking coup and they didn't even ask.
This is why I'm way more salty about bail. That's entirely on Garland, Smith, and Chutkan.
He didn’t do his job to the best of his ability
And screwed Americans out of accountability for the insurrection
For example: Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan? Never investigated, never indicted for failing to appear for a lawful subpoena.
Garland is as incompetent as they come.
The foot dragging was intentional.
He waited 2 years too late. That's the truth.
He waited 2 years too long
Nice to meet you, Charlie.
Democracy is dead in the USA.
As it was you were basically asking them to forfeit the 2024 election for the Republicans.
Oh, and here's a clue. You don't need someone running for office, or in office, to appoint a special prosecutor for their investigations. And if you don't believe me, just ask Hunter Biden.
I remember 2 years of inaction,
I remember Jack Smith indicting Trump
I don't recall Garland doing a goddamn single useful thing
So yeah, lets be accurate, shall we?

More likely, Biden just didn't care. But he felt he had to maintain the illusion of justice.
Any regular citizen would have had the FBI all over them and be serving time by now.
A god damn shame.
As horrible as that leaked draft of a majority opinion, Sammy Alito wrote.
The one about overturning Roe vs. Wade.
Instead, we got a 1 PSI Pug.
I mean no offense to dogs!
Because of those failures, Trump got re-elected. That’s the harm Biden unfortunately caused
What changed?
You’ve heard “curiosity killed the cat”?
Well, cautiousness killed Merrick Garland.
They need to grow a spine and stop playing by the old playbook.
Stop being fair. Play like they do.
This is how democracies fall
And one must doubt if America can ever recover from this fatal blow by those trusted to serve
At some point, we need to stop making excuses for these people in power.
Spineless and do-nothing.
