The LA Times photo desk, which is doing incredible work covering these brutal fires, has set up a Bluesky account that is among the newest ones we have verified. They are well worth following right now. @latimesphotos.bsky.social

That's a hard no. The LA Times and WaPo are not something I want to support. Maybe the photographers should choose another news source to publish if they want to be seen. You know, like the cartoon lady did.
While I sympathize with your relatives and others’s plight I cannot in good conscience give anything having to do with the @latimes.com a follow. Their owner obeyed in advance.
I truly hope your loved ones are safe and that their property is protected. Just a week ago, I was praying for family I'd just left in New Orleans. But, for those who aren't directly impacted, it's always the time to point out foolishness, corruption, and "leaders" behaving recklessly.
He’s already pulled articles on several occasions, putting his thumb on the scale. We can no longer trust that what gets published or not published is fair and impartial.
I can commiserate. I've been reading the Washington Post since I was 13, more than 30 years ago. Now, I'm going back and forth on whether or not to keep the subscription.
The @latimes.com will follow up this "incredible work" which is also what it is paid to do, by aiding #vicepresidenttrump and #presidentmusk denying #climatechange and promoting #fascism #hate #racism
Seems like a pretty innocuous comment.
A mildly humorous offhand remark mocking the paper's owner's remarks, positions, and decisions about a relevant, current, and relatively major issue with a legitimate gripe as a base.
🤷♂️
I don't understand.
If you hired someone to remodel your house, and it turned out he was a friend of your worst enemy and did his bidding, would you keep him on the job because of his employees?
As someone whose home is a block from Eaton Canyon, whose community has been leveled, whose friends are homeless, I absolutely need and am grateful for the journalists at any newspapers.
While I’m no longer a fan of the LA Times, it’s good to see more media on BlueSky. I’d really like more government agencies posting here. Just discovered that @calfire.bsky.social is on here.
Find those that are factual. Washington Post is somewhat slanted in editorial but factual on mains. Often provides fact checking for and to both sides. Support local papers if appropriate
I can despise the owner of LAT & still appreciate the work journalists are doing covering this story. A family member lost their home in Altadena & are now living with me. They've lost everything. We've needed to see what was going on.
In ~20hrs, we went from me sending a text (because I was paying attention to news reports here) of "Hey! did you see there's a fire nearby?" to her packing her car & evacuating before the evac order, to an email from her landlord saying the house is gone.
When they wouldn’t endorse Harris I stayed for the journalists that felt like family. But there is a point where obnoxious maga uncle ruins all of the family get togethers & you just have to cut ties.
There's literally a thousand other places I can get the same information and similar images from without supporting the owner of that paper with a single click.
I live in fire hill country in norcal. I regularly evac when winds get up. I once sat on some rocks in the riverbed near my house with my wife and kids while 40mph winds pushed a blaze that started on the road above our house blasted over the ridge towards all my friends houses.
If you want to dump on the owner, fine.
But the journalists and photojournalists--some of them my former colleagues--have done nothing to deserve your callousness
I am dumping on the owner, thanks for permission. I am also dumping on the thing he owns, and I am very sorry for hurt feelings. I live in fire country in norcal, and got refugees from the fire coming up to stay tonight.
I include that last part in case solidarity and mutual aid mean shit to you.
Wasn't giving permission. Not mine to give.
The "thing" he owns is staffed by people working hard, whose work you did indeed denigrate.
I perfectly understand mutual aid. I have been both a recipient and a provider.
That’s fair. Sadly, the LAT isn’t even the most badly run news organization.
I, too, have worked for bad managers and I still see days-old drowning victims in my sleep.
“We all know what fires look like (so who needs your work on these specific fires affecting these places and people on this particular day in history)”
When you boycott an outfit, everyone gets affected. And the fotogs are free to join the boycott against their Trump enabling employer, or they can choose to stay and have their work boycotted.
They're not victims here, they have a choice in this matter just like the WaPo cartoonist had a choice.
Billionaires lobby to defund the fire department in favour of more police to beat the homeless and protesters into submission then make a few bucks broadcasting the disaster that is late stage capitalism to the world.
Oh, right! However, the LA Times’s MAGA owner also won’t let its editorial board publish articles critical of Trump, et al. Same principle, different outlet.
Yeah, it helps remind people to ignore the bottom-feeding daily the LAT has become, as well as this flaccid attempt to restore your utterly decimated dignity, and instead refer to other, more credible sources for correct information. Next.
Fuck you
Just a reminder for everyone to cancel their Times subscription. If you absolutely gotta have it still cancel and sign up for free through your local library
Perhaps the most dystopian/dangerous “talent” that Trump has, is his ability to understand that a huge number of Americans, OF ALL POLITICAL STRIPES, just want to yell “fuck you” in a crowded theater.
He has no real political ideology, his party is the Asshole Party, and anyone can join…
Join, but not be fully accepted, as some of his followers will surely find out in the next 4 years. — “I didn’t think the leopards would be eating MY face!”- man who voted for the leopards eating faces party.
And what exactly has his ideology accomplished? He crashed a thriving economy & bungled the response to a global pandemic. The only thing he's good at is scamming people. He's increasingly senile & his influence is inimitable & his cult is already splintering thanks to Elon.
The fact that they hung all their hopes on ONE unstable, old man who's electoral influence no one has been able to duplicate is a huge weakness for the right.
My heart is in my throat seeing the news out of L.A. and scared for loved ones there, some who have lost their homes. But following the @latimes.com for anything is a hard pass.
The account has a default user name, lacks a verified domain, and doesn't use alt text. It doesn't look professional and therefore doesn't seem genuine.
It doesn't look like I'm alone in my skepticism, but I won't intrude again.
Not going to bring back subscribers. Because the rest of their coverage will involve denying the reasons for wildfires like this. And fluffing the Fool who is currently blaming Gov. Newsom.

Has he approved such critical coverage?
Nyc Sullivan act
1934 federal NFA
New York State firearm transportation laws
Nyc firearm transportation laws
Nyc illegal firearm discharge laws
& likely
New York pistol permit law
I have relatives and friends who are under evac. The fires are still uncontained.
And either does RW, fossil fuel funded denialism.
As supported by the oligarch owned media.
Keep up the good work!
Or should I say, "kep up the good wok."
But maybe stupid cheap dunks about “the fire’s point of view” are not a good way to do that.

They couldn’t endorse Harris the owner is a fucking Nazi
Still concerned about the non endorsement though. May follow only through the period of times that these fires are in the news.
The pictures are quite informative.
It’s not their fault
But also can’t reward the bad management for the good work of their photographers, some of which they will lay off in a year anyways
A mildly humorous offhand remark mocking the paper's owner's remarks, positions, and decisions about a relevant, current, and relatively major issue with a legitimate gripe as a base.
🤷♂️
How long can you work for one of the most evil creatures on the face of the Earth before you yourself become a willing tool of evil?
A week?
A month?
A year?
Five years?
& mute block the smart @ss whataboutism commenters
Unfortunately, they work for a journalistically corrupt organization. I wish the photogs all the best.
Support working people!?
If you hired someone to remodel your house, and it turned out he was a friend of your worst enemy and did his bidding, would you keep him on the job because of his employees?
Try again?
I'm sure the people who work there are lovely, but the product they sell is harming America.
I'M FOLLOWING.
FURTHER. The PEOPLE working so hard for Times
DIDN'T MAKE A N Y DECISION YOU WONT TOLLERATE.
Not one.
The fire grew FIVE TIMES IN 4 HOURS tonight.
So it's not a timely resource.
No one should be giving LAT the time of day if they can help it.
I know people working there think they're doing good, but their function in the operation is to mask the propaganda efforts with credibility.
I can despise the owner of LAT & still appreciate the work journalists are doing covering this story. A family member lost their home in Altadena & are now living with me. They've lost everything. We've needed to see what was going on.
We were informed by journalists.
I raised my kids half a block from the canyon where the Eaton fire broke out.
I’m a leftist. I am grateful for the remarkable work that so many journalists at the LA Times and other publications have done.
It has been a service to our community.
Nope.
We all know what fires look like by now in any case
Where from, hell?
So yes.
But I’ll bet you gazed at pics of Western NC, after Helene, right?
If you dont looks at pics of a disaster, how are you aware some bad shit went down? TV and soc media must be a real pain in the ass
But the journalists and photojournalists--some of them my former colleagues--have done nothing to deserve your callousness
I include that last part in case solidarity and mutual aid mean shit to you.
The "thing" he owns is staffed by people working hard, whose work you did indeed denigrate.
I perfectly understand mutual aid. I have been both a recipient and a provider.
If it helps, maybe the OP can point to the personal accounts of the photographers, I would be happy to promote their work.
But the LA Times can get fucked. Sorry.
I, too, have worked for bad managers and I still see days-old drowning victims in my sleep.
And absurd statements about an ongoing disaster with still expanding evacuation zones? You sound like a child.
They're not victims here, they have a choice in this matter just like the WaPo cartoonist had a choice.
🤷

People need to reach into their consciousness and figure out who and what we are actually fighting.
He has no real political ideology, his party is the Asshole Party, and anyone can join…
Not very believable for you to claim "racism in America" is unsustainable; in fact, the country was founded upon it.
It got him elected. What he does, what money he makes, what evil racists he empowers and emboldens in the next 4 years ...
That's what his ideology accomplished.
