Here's over a thousand words of what speakers said at Trump's rally last night. Direct quotes, lots of them, no paraphrasing, no writing around the "fucks" and the racism and the violence.

I really appreciate you engaging here, knowing how much criticism NYT takes; helps me at least to feel like the paper is not beyond all hope, although I still have lots of concerns about its sanewashing tendencies, among other things. This is good work, thank you.
Yes! Good work. My only quibble was the use of “surreal.” Everything was real. The rally didn’t have qualities of surrealism, “the 20th-century avant-garde art/lit movement which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images.”
Oops, sorry, I lied. I got triggered when I read “It was all a surreal scene” in Haberman et al this morning. You absolutely did not say that. I apologize.
In case you were wondering how extreme it was, this is how many editors had to sign off on printing it all. (To be clear: They all said yes. There was no fight.)
An ordinary, totally uncontroversial article would be read by two editors. More sensitive articles get more eyes. But this many people being in a file at once is very rare.
All the while the Republican voter suppression activity is in full swing. It is criminal and must be countered before they succeed in eliminating the Constitution. Every citizen should have good information and be able to vote.
I'm pretty sure sulzberger is the one actively trying to push the yoke further forward and actively deepen the nose dive. Are our standards for the times are so low we heap praise on them for one article that didn't even mention the contents of Trump's 90 minutes of senile fascist rambling.
The thing that’s sticking in my head is that bit in GoT before the sept is blown up — Margaery notes Cersei’s absence, that Cersei knows the severe consequences of it, & is choosing not to attend.
What are they up to with the MSG rally? Overt, explicit — this was a choice. Why? Why now?
very pleased to see NYT headline and opening paragraph live coverage improved from yesterday, when Trump per NYT "distanced" himself from racist rants at MSG
today, no use of (iirc) perfectives
instead, Trump is now "trying" to talk his way out and "attempting"
Would be really cool if they had done more articles like this for the past decade. I mean, it's good, but the fact that you have to stress how unvarnished it is says everything about what we've come to expect.
The recent cancellations must have gotten real bad. The Times may finally be understanding the danger they create by handing fascists a bullhorn while sanitizing their language.
I canceled after the op-ed about deploying the military against US Citizens (Tom Cotton: Send In The Troops, 6/3/2020)
Minor correction: I think the "I commit suicide in three weeks" line was supposed to be about Jeffrey Epstein, not Vince Foster (that's how long he was in jail before he died).
Hmm, it's ambiguous since he didn't name names, but Epstein was arrested and jailed on July 6, 2019, and died on August 10, which isn't three weeks. And the Vince Foster conspiracy theories are a really well-established thing in relation to the Clintons.
Ahh you're right, that's what I get for skimming too fast :)
Agreed it's ambiguous, though. I'd still guess it's Epstein since the speaker is an extremely-online elder millennial, but there's no clear evidence either way. If the speaker were someone Trump's age I'd say it's definitely Foster.
how did they decide to wait over a decade to simply do this lol. this is the F student who slept through class asking for extra credit at the end of the school year

FUCK. SULZBERGER.
Boycott NYT and the rest.
I think NYT smells blood in the water. They're on a subscription drive.

It must be something for all these folks to live their lives consumed by hate of others.
