Why couldn’t they have subjected him to a fine equal to court costs. At least that would have been something in the form of punishment. Any kind of monetary fine would have hurt him more that serving time would have, with his love affair with money, it would have stung a bit.

It means he's still convicted on all charges, cannot pardon himself and, in the future, will be taken into account when other charges are brought against him as he'll then be a repeat offender. Hopefully in 4 years time he will be stripped of power, and then punished for his crimes.

He's a real estate developer turned entertainer. Unless you have an ironclad contract with immediate and certain consequences for violations, he will walk all over us and our norms and habits and "usual way of doing things."
