Social Security isn’t a gift.
It’s your own money.
Privatizing Social Security is not advantageous because it all depends on the stock market.
You are putting your fate in the hands of others.
Just no.

I can just imagine Bush getting us all to put our SS balance in the stock market on September 28, 2008.
Welcome to USA, Inc.
That doesn't even touch the risk of pyramid schemes, theft & fraud.
Plus, what are the implications of gov't owned shares in private corporations?
"Bush 'borrowed' $1.37 trillion of Social Security surplus revenue to pay for his tax cuts for the rich and his war in Iraq and never paid it back”.
Thanks republicans...
Fortunately, some of my other financial vehicles were pretty much recession-proof and I had time to recover before I retired. Should I had been forced to retire then, I would have been fucked.
That said, to be fair, it isn't just our money to us. There are people who receive SS that may never have paid in. If I am a stay at home spouse and only my spouse pays in, I still get half as much as his in addition to what he gets. And all of his if he dies.
The system operates on a pay-as-you-go basis, meaning current workers' contributions help fund current beneficiaries' benefits.
Social Security is financed through a dedicated payroll tax. Employers and employees each pay 6.2 percent of wages up to the taxable maximum of $168,600 (in 2024), while the self-employed pay 12.4 percent.
So which billionaire(s) will be profiting off of this?
And they stole it
I already do so with my 401k and HSA.
It's not really that wild to have pensions invested in the market.
If you want low risk bonds like what SS does today, fine. Your choice.
How many of the trump supporters would put
Money into it?
I am perfectly aware that I have no SS funds and am unlikely to have a reliable and well funded government safety net by time I'll need it.
Yes, it was Enron.
That's privatization.
Not sure if stupid or evil.
So I'm a little confused here.
jfc - psychopaths never quit.
EVER
That's why you do need it to be government-managed.
The only number you have to remember as the Republicans try and drag us into outrage fatigue with their threats and bullshit posturing is
𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧.
THat's how many people they'll fuck over if they even breathe on Social Security.
Don't you think most people will see a few extra dollars in their check and just spend it?
I probably would have.

Democrats, based on investigation of critical evidence impeached the big liar.
Twice actually.
republicans failed to do their jobs.
We have forced a republican president (nixon) to resign. We should work on that again.
.
It's the kind of insurance program they don't like. Nonprofit.
And the money flows both ways, not just one way.
Slavery is the legal fiction that a person can be property.
Corporatism is the legal fiction that property can have legal personhood.Dickens:The Law is a ass
It is insurance.
In legal jargon "entitlements" can have multiple meanings.
The US govt. is in need of a major reform, starting with the SCOTUS, who recently made a decision to let States 'sidestep' the Constitution - effectively deciding when it applies. Effectively suspending it.
SCOTUS reform. Senate (and selection) reform. Electoral authority reform. Term limits. Age limits. Legislated background checks on every appointee (public).
There's a lot. The so-called Founders weren't gods. They did the best with what they understood.
Final irony, we are giving our money to a clown car filled with idjits.
😎😎😎
Social Security is OUR money - earned and paid for.

Yeah I too thought it was weird stuffing dollars into the mattress.
A friend of mine said if they shut down ssi/ssa they'll pay everyone back. How tf is a department that doesn't exist anymore supposed to pay people back?
