Portland has real problems that the new City Council needs to deal with; this isn’t one of them.

Were I on council I’d be tempted to introduce an ordinance exempting schools from the noise code during daytime, solely out of irritation at having my time wasted.

The truth in my experience from living next to a doggy daycare is that the city has ONE noise inspector, he works nights, there is no daytime enforcement. Their mistake was scheduling it, that might actually cause him to show up, do it on random days and you can do whatever you want in practice.

Why not? Lots of cities have a number of standing subcommittees that handle public hearings and the full council then votes on the outcome. I doubt that’s illegal in Oregon, since planning commissions hold public hearings

Wild find. Per Portland Maps, the complainant bought that house in 2022. So unless they own multiple houses in the neighborhood…their complaint is moving forward while they don’t live in the neighborhood anymore! There sure are a lot of kinds of people.

I use to work in a nonprofit/elementary school in NE Portland, and we had neighbors who would FREAK OUT over hearing children dancing and playing w/music for our annual outdoor fundraiser. Pretty disheartening how people are okay with construction noise but not Littles' joy.
