These firings seemingly violated a law requiring presidents to provide Congress with 30 days’ advance notice and justification before removing any inspector general.
Why is this such a problem? Watchdogs play a critical role in ensuring accountability, transparency, and fairness within systems. In government, they investigate, expose, and prevent misconduct, corruption, abuse of power, and inefficiencies.
It looks like they are refusing to step down, unless the lawful procedure is followed correctly? I hope this is the case. I really hope additional governmental agencies will set up an alt acct. They did the last time we had to deal with the orange menace, didn’t they?
This is one of the moments when most people get half way through their own question and realise they knew the answer all along. Yeah, it’s ’Becoz corrupt felon in office’.
AGs can’t be fired without specific misconduct and the action of the Congress. They have respectful given the current Republican administration the forms and told them to get in line once they fill them out with supporting documents
There is no transparency, this McMoron didn't want to sign the transition paperwork before taking the fake oath. I knew then the shifty schemer was & would steal from Americans.
A free press is the people's last line of defense. If you care about accountability, transparency and fairness, join the call to #PardonAssange and #RepealEspionageAct
Government crimes shouldn't be classified, according to Obama's EO 13526. Let whistleblowers speak & let journalists publish them.
Why does ANYONE think a convicted felon, serial sexual offender, pathological liar, and lifelong grifter who is now the bought-and-paid-for puppet of a nazi, gives one fuck about "the law" when he has never suffered ANY CONSEQUENCES for breaking it?
The difference between Republican coverage and Democrat coverage of the firing of inspectors generals is found here. The Republican coverage would be about an existing or perceived cover up while the Democrats continue to just wring their hands and poop themselves
Except he can't legally do it without notice and good reasons to congress. Those pesky laws keep getting in the way. We must push back. Where is Democratic leadership?! File a lawsuit already!
It could have been at his recommendation. It could have been anyone, really. The one person in all this that I 100% think isn't making executive decisions is the orange figurehead. He isn't this smart.
Trump sent out a letter. The office of POTUS does not have the power to do this, yet here we all are, acting like it does, thus ceding more power to Trump.
Language matters--why are the loudest among us so confused about this?
Late Friday night, figurehead of a fascist puppet regime, Convict Drumpf, fired several inspectors general WITHOUT NOTICE.
As promised in Project 2025, the oligarchs are removing checks on power to install their own loyalists, further entrenching their corrupt #Kleptocracy.
Supposedly Musk and others are the new watchdogs via that "DOGE" position. But DOGE will probably end up as a means for billionaires to get richer at our expense.
I think you answered your own question, because so many from his first admin turned out more loyal to the country than to him. I don't think we can count on that this time.
Exactly. I never in my life would've thought Mike Pence would be the person who put a stop to trump in his first admin, but thank God he did, and this time around we're probably fucked. Mike saying no was a one in a million event like winning the lottery, and conservatives know it.
Senate can impeach and remove him from office with a 2/3rd vote. Lawsuits can also overturn his ruling in this manner, but are lengthy and will likely not yield putting those IGs back in place. The Senate needs to call him on it and overrule his decision. However, too many senators side with him.
I don't think there is any hope of restraining trump or impeachment 3.0 until after the midterms, when--hopefully--the Dems will regain control of both the House and Senate.
Yes, I used to. But I know how they will always vote, so I don’t bother. Either hardline democrat or hardline republican and I personally CANNOT change that.
I write despite the fact that my representative and senators are all right-minded. I want them to know it matters to me. They're not having a good time either! ;-)
Since you still cross-post (I actually came here fr FB to ask you this), are you noticing some bogginess with FB today? It's acting like there's no 'net connect.
The MAGA world considers lies and opinions as fact. If it makes money for rich white men, then it is OK. Who needs ethics, checks, or balances when profits are at stake?
On the plus side, the Inspectors General are fighting back. And Trump is going to lose that fight. There is plain language in the statutes about "notice to Congress" and the necessity of case-specific complaints that Trump didn't follow. Trump's "priorities" don't matter.
Too bad no one is telling people that the Inspector Generals are fighting back.
All news is Trump fired them. And then crickets.
A little of, I’m so disappointed, or he is suppose to give a 30 day notice, but no he doesn’t have the power to do this From those in Congress. From either Side.
We need to keep them all working together to support the communities where Trump is trying to remove immigrants. And if any of them voted for Trump, they will now understand why democrats are not the enemy.

Impeachment is a tool no longer of any use in this era.

Are people still SURPRISED when he breaks it?! 🤔

What does he have to say about this?

Always call a ♠️ a ♠️.
Now who's going to step up and do something about it?

The president may present who he wants as IG, but they must be approved by Congress, just like a Supreme Court Justice.
That Democrats are letting Trump get away with this IS DISGRACEFUL. Are they for Us or for Trump?
