The DHS will use polygraphs to question employees about communications with the media or nonprofit organizations in an effort to root out members of the resistance.

Agree that polygraphs should not be used to identify political opposition (ie, Democrats) but don’t we assume that in the DHS polygraph use is rather common under normal circumstances?
I was gonna say polygraphs are so wildly inaccurate - we tested these at school and i "beat" the system by having my heart rate stay consistently elevated - so they couldn't tell when I told a truth or lie
The Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA) of 1988 makes it illegal for private employers but does not apply to federal, state or any other government employers. They can use them
Any decent, well-respected leader wouldn't put their team through anything they wouldn't go through. You should tell your leaders (all the way to the top) to go first or F√€# off. ✊
I believe that if the job description did not include a provision of polys for employment then anyone asked to do one as a condition of continued enployment should certainly contact a lawyer first.
If the job required it and the employee agreed to polys, might not be anything to do.
Well, they can give it a try. But since most of the people who give polygraphs to federal emloyees are either DOD civilians or the FBI they may have already fired them by accident.
They’re also not even remotely accurate enough to be admissible in courts or for anything scientific, with a success rate of something like 80%- and some outside groups finding false positive rates as high as 50%. No rational-minded person would use this for anything important.
And it's only your job, housing, income, individual and family health insurance, and future at stake. What could POSSIBLY affect an accurate outcome in that environment?
Trump is rebuilding the courts in his image. He has fired thousands without polygraphs. He doesn’t plan on using them to sue people.
He can’t fire people who don’t like him, and yet that’s exactly what he’s doing, already done, and plans on doing until they all give him the Hitler salute.
Worse. Herr Hitler's aim wasn't to destroy the country and the economy and he also hired people who knew what they were doing. Which, come to think of it, might have been worse after all.
There's a reason that polygraph tests are not admisable in most court proceedings. They're unreliable and the results are subjective; basically, the tester reads the results to means whatever they want them to.
Any federal employee compelled to submit to polygraph "testing" may benefit from our free book, The Lie Behind the Lie Detector, with chapters on polygraph validity, policy, procedure, and countermeasures: https://antipolygraph.org/pubs.shtml
Hmmmm....seems to me that the only reason this would be necessary is if DHS is doing things they don't want the public knowing about which, of course, they shouldn't be doing.
The polygraph is an oracle. It isn't real. It produces false positives and negatives. Lawyer up. The polygraph had been shown to rarely be a reliable indicator. The DOE stoped using it. They have also experimented using the date rape drug with it. Do not under any means drink something they give
If this is true, it's sounding more & more like a fascist dictatorship. Focusing on people with different opinions inside the country, while firing those who protect us from terrorism & outside threats.
Polygraph. Jajajaj that thing it's inadmissible in court. It only reacts to your nerves. Just say you are nervous by nature and move a lot and the thing is worthless.
Can we just volunteer the information? Hi, I’m Disinterred, I took an oath a long time ago to uphold the US Constitution. How’s that working out for you?
Lots of law enforcement agencies require a polygraph despite the fact that they are unreliable and inadmissible in court! If it’s part of their hiring practices, you must comply.
Not true. They told a family member of mine that same thing. He refused, said he wanted his lawyer. The polygraph didn't happen. You can refuse, but most people think, "I'm telling the truth, so I'll take their stupid polygraph." Which will then give false positives because of nerves/anxiety.
Really! Wow I did not know that.
So some law enforcement agencies require polygraphs before you can be employed by them?
What about the people that already work for DHS?
Can’t speak for the US (retired Canadian police officer here). In normal times, I suspect it would never get past the courts in the US for existing employees, but this seems to be unprecedented and dystopian times.
And when someone "fails" the polygraph... what then? Are they politely fired and asked to leave? Or are they arrested, forced onto a plane, and taken to Gitmo? Because the latter is becoming more and more likely!
Forcing federal employees or ANYONE to take lie detector tests to show if they said anything about the grand poohbah he didn't like is illegal, unconstitutional and very very authoritarian.
Whats next brown shirts coming to your door to arrest you because you posted something the 'king' didn't like?
Until republicans install a leader at the DHS that is not a national security threat, tell them to take a hike.
These federal employees need to start hitting back, very publicly.
And yet they want us to believe they aren't knowingly fascist. Good luck. Be safe. Polygraphs aren't unbeatable. (Remember to VPN and someone else's computer when you look that up.)
They should stay unified as a whole and refuse to take it. Many states courts do not believe that the results are accurate so should not be used as justification. Either that or figure out a way to as a group totally screw up the results.
This account is composed of people who work in the federal government; their source is typically that it's happening to them (they can't use names). They don't always have -media- sources at initial announcement because it takes time to filter out. I haven't seen them say anything that wasn't true.
How can they legally do this? Oh that’s right. They are experts at breaking the law and getting away with it. We need Republicans with a backbone. With integrity. With compassion. With honesty and respect.
All we have is Trump and his faithful servants.
NOTHING is it illegal in the corrupt Trump/musk administration… The only thing that could be considered illegal is the refusal to bow down and worship the administration
The goal is complete subserviance and destruction of the entire social order
Some places have put pneumatic sensors on chairs to detect that. Silent complex thought processes have the same effect. So try doing some weird math in your head, or visualize rotating a 3-d object, or having a difficult conversation with someone.
Why do people keep asking if this is legal? It doesn't matter if it's legal, yo! They don't care about legal!
Have you not got that through your heads yet?!
Don't ask if it's legal, share info on how to beat a polygraph, how to build community, how to resist! Go to a protest, yell at your Senators!
"Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
The real use for polygraphs is to trick suspects into thinking the authorities have "proof" they did something or lied about something and then trick them into signing confessions or turning on other suspects.
Of course, this is exactly the kind of shit they want, so it works perfectly for them.
This is exactly what a former employer of mine did (80s, big chain restaurant). We would be pressured on something if they thought it was a lie. We used to tell new hires to never confess to anything that was a terminating event. Invariably someone would, never to be seen again.
Kristi Noem is running this: I think she & Team Dotard believes it really works %100 B&W simple and they can run it in inappropriate settings & ask non conforming questions. god only knows what certified polygraph administrators would get in bed with these people. #Stazi #Schutzstaffel
If. you aren't doing bad/illegal things - the employees wouldn't be going to the media. Maybe the real solution is to obey the law or follow the CONSTITUTION????
It's wild what a pencil in your pocket or pinching your thigh can do, or thinking of traumatic events, or even just drinking a lot of water and holding your bladder will accomplish.

Gov already has precedent for firing/not hiring based on polygraph.
It's not waterboarding, but it's about as effective at eliciting the false confessions, and false negative results.
Mine is not and it is a position where you would think they would use it.
If the job required it and the employee agreed to polys, might not be anything to do.
He can’t fire people who don’t like him, and yet that’s exactly what he’s doing, already done, and plans on doing until they all give him the Hitler salute.
😆😆]\
havent yall seen the steve wilkos show? Lol
So, of course
A polygraph is only as good as the interrogator. 🤔
FYI
Of course, that describes half this administration so they won’t see the irony…
HOW IS THIS NOT AGAINST A PERSON'S CIVIL RIGHTS!
So some law enforcement agencies require polygraphs before you can be employed by them?
What about the people that already work for DHS?
He is a bastard!

SICK OF ALL THE LIES
Whats next brown shirts coming to your door to arrest you because you posted something the 'king' didn't like?

The DHS will use polygraphs
It’s all over the news… even faux noise
When is someone going to return them to the asylum in a straitjacket
All we have is Trump and his faithful servants.

#protest ✊🏼✊🏼
This used to work.
Pretty sure this is a violation of worker rights and pretty fucking fascist.
Have you not got that through your heads yet?!

imagine your on a wonderful date with a great person
it will relax you
pretend you're answering the questions to that special person
Your answers won't trigger the stress sensors in the polygraph
It T took that test the page would come out black because of how much that pen would be scribbling.
Of course, this is exactly the kind of shit they want, so it works perfectly for them.
I know it's unrelated, but I'm weird.
So sue me.
