Stock market prices are not economic numbers.
Economic numbers are what an average working person can buy each week with what is left of their wages after tax and rent
Economic numbers caused the stock market slide today. Consumer confidence, home sales down, inflation expectations up. Meaningful economic data takes time to gather, people like to talk about the market because it happens instantly every day.
Yes however the conversation is dealing with how the numbers aren’t backed by anything but paper. Until we get stock buy backs out of trading real value of a company will not show.
America's debt has grown by about $33 trillion in 45 years. Exactly the same amount as the "paper" wealth of the top 1% has grown in those years.
Via huge tax cuts. They have invested it all into the stock market.
Thus massively inflating the market cap.
75% of it is built on debt.
A house of cards
I have advocated the Senator of Alabama and Florida where I once lived to prohibit stock buybacks which would fix prices in America immediately. No reply
It's a ponzi scheme. Pure and simple. Paper money. Not real.
How did people like McConnell, Shumer and Pelosi stash around $100 million each while working in $200,000 a year government jobs?
the true measure of a society is how the bottom 30% earners are doing that the grocery store not how the top 3% are doing at the stock market. Permanently tie minimum wage to the cost of living and focus on the needs of the most vulnerable then balance can be restored and peace can reign
Considering our bank money is less safe because of DOGE- how long before a run on the banks? Hear that Credit Unions might be safer now.
This is a scheme by the over-wealthy that is already blowing up (imploding?).
If I were the nose rubbing type, I'd comment with your screenshot, on a "friends" screenshot from Nov. 6th.

Awesome! I agree. It’s either a full on serious boycott of anti-democratic corporations, or take turns tickling them for a week here and there. This link might help, though there appear to be inconsistencies. Tesla?
Consumer confidence is down- inflation is up- brokers who thought Trump would be good for business are realizing he’s not- that’s why the market is down the last two days.
And it's gonna get a lot worse! What happens when half the country cuts back on spending in protest of a government run by ducks? The economy gets ducked. 😅
Not low enough! I’ll only be happy when the stock isn’t even worth the paper it’s printed on. When people use those stock sheets for toilet paper - then I’ll be happy.
What’s sad is so many of our pensions are tied to the market. Teachers I work with, some voted for convicted felon, are close to retiring and are nervous….i just figure I’ll work til I’m dead so let it meltdown
Up until last December, my IRA was divided among four classes of publicly traded securities. I had that queasy feeling that the market was going to reflect the oncoming chaos caused by the Pendejo-47 Administration, so I moved that money to simple interest-bearing accounts. Safer until banks crash.
It’s extraordinary. He could have done nothing - or even very little - and ridden an incredible economy. Now, by using a sledgehammer instead of a scalpel, threatening tariffs, and turning on democracy he has royally hurt the economy and ALL of us.
It's been over 1000 points in the past two days. And the market hasn't closed yet. Anyone remember "Kamala crash"? Should we call this "Donnie Slump"? Or maybe dump would be a better word.

It's a significant one-day fall. But not yet a trend. Once it drops below the last significant local minimum of January 10 (41,938.45), that will hit home for a lot of people. All the euphoria heading into January 20 will have evaporated. Shit will get real.
So the Donald is working his magic in a beautiful way, we've never had it so good.
At least the ruZZian economy looks certain to crash this year...
Unless Putin can find someone to throw him a lifeline and lift sanctions, any volunteers?
I live in rural Arkansas. Walmart has a stranglehold on the state. Any competition has been forced out of business. That leaves me with their bed buddy, Amazon. I'm trying a few options that are still in my budget.
I've had fun buying on the discount Chinese sites. I'm sticking to my No Buy 2025 right now. Nothing new if I can avoid it. I'll buy second hand, food, and pay bills. Im holding as much of my money as I can.
I’m rural in red state & 💯 get what you’re saying. I found out that we can get Costco membership and have items shipped. It’s not perfect, but it’s an option. My problem is my hubs not following protocol. He still buys 1) too much and 2) from wherever he wants. White boy privilege is strong in him.
It’s great that you explore other options first. The other thing you can do is just buy less. If you can only get it from Walmart but don’t really need it, maybe hold off for a bit. I’m using that approach with Amazon. Something is better than nothing.
There are stores that will *ship* shelf-stable groceries. Kroger does, Target does (look, they're still less bad than WM and Amazon) and there are doubtlessly others, but those are the only two I've personally used.
It looks like Costco has two day grocery shipping if you spend $75. :)
It’s tough in some rural areas like this. You can avoid buying the Wal-Mart brands like Sam’s Choice, Equate, Great Value, Mainstays, Special Kitty, and Parent’s Choice. Here is a more thorough list. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Walmart_brands
I am suffering through the same thing. I live in a town in Southern Kentucky and I am having a hard time finding anywhere to get clothes for my kids. It is either Walmart or Amazon. I had to break down and buy from Walmart today, but REFUSED to buy more than I had too.
The rest of us should totally understand. Some folks in America have no other options than fucking Walmart.
However, think guys about possibility to start a local farmer's market Once a week, f.e.
I am glad I can make a choice and proudly skip Target or Walmart. But not everyone can. Be safe!
I love it! I know some people have started small gardens in their yards, community gardens are really amazing way for access to fresh food with the added benefit of meeting, like-minded neighbors
Absolutely! If I have cucumbers and you have tomatoes, we can share.
Trust me, I am very afraid people soon will have very little to eat. There will be empty shelves in stores.
Space for local farmers, once a week they come with products ( fresh, healthy) and there we go!
My husband likes to remind me that there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism. We each do the best we can under the constraints we’re under. If we can abstain, we do, but we try not to get too worked up if we’re not able to.
I love what you said. When ppl criticize others for not eating organic- it’s expensive! Not a whole lot of ppl can afford that price jump. My kids are grown, and supporting themselves now,& I’m lucky enough to be an able to shop local, and eat organic if I want but local and organic is expensive!
Judgement just makes ppl feel bad We all do the best we can Except the Republican Coalition. They’re all asshole and deserve to guzzle Round-Up straight out of the bottle
Full disclosure, I use it and it’s awesome 🙃👍🏼
everybody is doing the best they can, yet it’s good to know our dollars have impact and make different choices if possible. it’s impossible to find organic, even if you can afford it, in some places. It’s easy to grow simple foods and it’s brave to try. Even in containers in small places 🙏🏼
That's my game plan this year. I was just about to buy a brand new PC and bought a used one instead with the same specs for a quarter the price. Saved $700 and felt good not supporting big business. I had plans for other big purchases, but I'll make do with what I have for the foreseeable future.
Yep, agreed no judgment here. It’s just to be as mindful as possible while we’re purchasing. And also if you’ve got the ability to start community Gardens, it can be a great thing to do. Also, pooling resources where possible.
We all have to do what we can, but sometimes that's shopping where we'd rather not. Though slowing spending and only buying necessary items can have the same effect.
I haven’t been inside of a Walmart since 1997… and the last thing I bought was a bag of cat litter. I’d literally rather do without than support them. I’ve only been in a Target a half dozen times in the last 30 years as well. it can be done. I don’t want for much.
Just want to say that I was boycotting Walmart before it was cool.
It’s tough when you live in a small town though. There’s Walmart and Bi-Mart where I am. I love Bi-Mart, but they just don’t always have everything you need. I’d kill for a Costco within an hour’s drive.
Good on you! I know people who make the long drive to Costco when they can afford to stock up. At least if you’re in a rural area, it can be easier to grow some of your own food if you have the time and ability to do so.
I’ve bought from Walmart maybe 4 times in my life. Our family avoids it like the plague. The way they came through early on and destroyed so many small businesses is our reason.
Another one from Arkansas... there are literally two stores to choose from Walmart and 'X' - and the x store is at least 30% more expensive. On a fixed income I don't have a lot of choice. Oh Canada! Can you please adopt me? Will work for FREEDOM.
Yay, economic protest is gaining momentum. Shortsighted billion dollar corporations need to understand they don't control squat if they don't get our money!
Hey, I believe in our power to show these a-holes who’s in charge. And, I have spoken to people about why this is a one day event. But, I’m believing this needs to be an everyday event. One day doesn’t hurt them.
It’s amazing what Trump’s - Musk will do to our country just to get their way. I like most people disagree with Musk Trump. I feel it not only stops our government from working as it should. I can just hope the SCOTUS actually upholds current established law instead of making a new law.
SCOTUS has damaged the country’s faith in the SCOTUS legitimacy of truly impartial rulings. Terrible ruling like Citizens United and making the President above the law they have done great damage to our Country. They need to pull back b/f they do irreparable to our country. Justice is Demanded
Great move Trump, you wished the US Hockey team good luck and they lost. Now the Economy is failing and inflation is rising. Way to go Trump, you promised that you would prices would go down if you were voted in and they are rising. You are the KISS of death to all good thing.
Friendly reminder of the road we’ve traveled for all the greedy jerks who voted for Trump. You did alright in a market that nearly doubled but it wasn’t good enough, huh?
(It’s kind of a passive-aggressive southern expression meaning basically “what a dumbass, but what are you gonna do”). It’s true he has no heart though
The cookie is crumbling. Trump realized that he would get kickback if he rolled things out slowly, people would have a chance to digest the impact & respond. With shock & awe he thought he could hide it. As time rolls on, we will see he is blowing up economy. Market decline is 1st indication
I want the fucker to tank. I want magaettes to hurt. And I have never been like this in my life. I'm angry this pos is idolized. He's a POS. HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT !!
One number gets bigger, one number gets smaller. Many people are telling me, and we get nothing. But I said it. I was the most peaceful and prosperous the world and we have, just, no intelligence gathering system second to none. I said, look, in two hours they’ll go for lunch. They won’t accept it.
I checked it; the chart you posted is inaccurate. The actual top 10 Dow Jones losses are reflected below. Still mostly on Trump’s watch including the six largest point losses and eight of the top ten. Sadly, he probably isn’t finished contributing to this list.
The same thing happened with EVERY business Trump was involved in. The Apprentice shows were NOT his business. He was just hired "talent" portraying a mythical business genius on a TV show written & produced by people not involved in his org.
And, his own personal office in the Trump Tower was so shoddy and moldy-smelling that the tv show staff built another office and meeting room for the show to use.
All the Apprentice "reality" shows were created in the edit room. And Trump would record his predictions & words of advice after the teams had completed their tasks, so it looked like he had some meaningful role in the proceedings.
In 1931, the index lost 52.67 percent of its value. 3 percent under Trump. President Biden’s administration, the S&P 500 experienced a gain of approximately 57.85% over his four-year term.
Lol only 57.85%? I had 30-32% gains in my investment accounts last year. It was bonkers in a good way. If I had not cashed out, most of those gains would be gone already.
Time for me to get a different financial advisor. I knew this would happen but bc I’m not an “expert” I was dismissed. My mother lost hundreds of thousands in ‘08 bc her advisor left her $ in high risk stocks She was 78 years old!!(not rich, just lots of time to save and gain) God damn it

With all of the shit that comes out of his mouth, what else would you expect? The market likes stability and the mouth of the orange imbecile is like a bull in a china shop!
That chart is inaccurate, the image below shows the actual top 10 point losses per Wikipedia. The top 6 and 8 of the top 10 DJIA point losses were under Trump’s watch, including the only three losses over 2,000 points.
Top 10 point drops don’t but by percentage drops the Great Depression has three of the top six. The Oct 19, 1987 crash was the biggest one day percentage drop.
True. In the last few weeks, we've seen (those who could afford to) buy up and drive up the price of gold. Why? Historically, it's the stalwart to own in bad economic times, or when a government is collapsing, or in times of war on home turf. Paper money eventually becomes almost worthless.
I sold all my stocks. I sold all my real estate (3 properties). I got passports for my family. Now I will go to the bank and pull out all of my cash because I can't count on FDIC. And we can't believe a word of what the government says. Not a word.
Well that is one way to look at things. Comparing what happens to what's going on in the world today, gives us a better picture of what's likely to come in the short term.
Yeah, I think so. With some perspective you can definitely still see the Trump effect, but also feel like maybe folks aren’t going to lose hard-won 401Ks.
You should see the conservative sub on Reddit. Nearly every post they’re patting themselves on the backs and asking each other if they’re tired of winning yet. It’s wild and troubling all wrapped up in total delusion.
Yup. It’s been fun. This happened to me overnight, 3 days ago, I think. Maybe less. Thankfully I had only recently started investing, so I’ve lost little value at such a huge percentage.
That chart looks like where X heading. Meta and X have set a powerful precedent—and it’s time to use it against them! The recent $25 million lawsuit settlement from Meta and $10 million from X to Trump is a strategic opportunity for journalists, federal workers, and everyday users to fight back.
Orange man make red line sad? Let's just ditch the stock market! Judging the health of the economy by the health of the stock market is like judging the health of the patient by the health of the leech.
Plenty of corrupt inside trading by the oligarchs going on now that will never be investigated .The very rich will be spared while the rest of us suffer.
He did so well when he rode Obama’s economy last time! Just when the economy was getting back to normal him and his yes men do the project 2025 based off of pseudo philosophy bullshit rather than things that work. Fucking idiots all around.
