What makes this more surprising is that Splinter has 431k followers on X and just 1.8k followers on Bluesky so far (though that's rising quickly). And Bluesky has sent more traffic to the https://Splinter.com over the last 30 days. X is clearly throttling posts with links.
I deleted twitter shortly after Elmo came in carrying that sink. It was like becoming estranged with an old friend that abandoned everything he ever stood for because he went far right and began bashing any old friend that didn't turn into a trumper idiot. Very sad. Very stupid. He f-ed himself.
It is the biggest trumph over the man by the collective people. I am overjoyed. I think he is also here in Bluesky.
This is the first achievement BY THE PEOPLE.
Who knows what the people can achieve when we are all together.
Besides throttling links, if you're looking for news or information it's just a flood of garbage. Disinfo was always out there but it used to be relatively easy to filter; now it's just a torrent and not worth wading through.
They don't just throttle posts with links, they throttle anything that the far right doesn't like. They throttled all trans people just for being trans.
Even with Elon Musk blocked, he still frequently showed at the top of the recommended to follow list. It's so ridiculous. I'd be embarrassed doing that.
I was going to ask about follower counts, and I’d normally wonder if a higher count on X might be misleading if many of those people could have left or might be inactive. But a ratio of 1.8:431 might be too significant for that to make sense 😂
Thanks for posting. Yeah, I don’t want fall in to the trap of saying it’s *all* bots over there. The site is still plenty big, with a lot of people still using it as they had before.
BUT, it just feels filthy with bots, and even if that report is say, half right, that’s a ton of bots
Speaking from my own personal experience, I went from ~200 to north of 400 and none of them seem to be real accounts. Engagement to my tweets didn’t change, and perhaps indicative of being bots, I barely got any “new follower” notifications on that path to 400+
The huge surge in Bluesky users immediately after the election strongly suggests that a lot of Twitter users just decided that they no longer wanted to listen to Elon Musk's right-wing megaphone.
The bots and nuts, for any sane comment, the flashflood of hate. Who'd want to have a part. Followed the election for news, but like with NYT it was time to unsubscribe
Same here and it was turning into a troll fest. You couldn't respond to anything without getting attacked by all of the clueless Joe Bob's and Karen's in that cesspool.
Even if this was about purity politics, it’s “purity politics” in the same way that the fact that our meat doesn’t contain botulism or workers’ fingers is “purity groceries.”
Exactly. I don't expect purity but I also don't expect racism, transphobia, and misogyny to be normalized and encouraged. The only way to "fix" Twitter/X is to leave it and let it wither off into obscurity.
They de rate links so you stay on Twitter longer and not click away. It's a choice to make it worse with less content. So content makers are switching.
I have to say that there is something nice about being berated as a Marxist libtard simply for voicing an opinion that might lean to the left. Though I’m not sure how believing in minding ones own business is a “leftist” idea..or how people who claim to be pro freedom would think so for that matter.
There's simply a better class of people on Bluesky. Amend that. There are more people who have show some class on Bluesky than on TwiXler, where exhibiting any class at all is considered a defect.
F the Minister of Propaganda. I was never a Twitter person but I had an account from when it first came out that I recently searched for and shut down when I can here.
Each can speak for themselves. Indeed, Twitter had become a hell hole even before that man child purchased it. But be under no illusion... I left (and know plenty of people who left) Twitter (X) because of the politics of Musk's manipulative hold on it and how it was used in electoral disinformation
Hate speech went through the roof and it became so much more difficult to use! The algorithm highlighting people who paid for a check mark for instance.
He's not done. Proud of himself for getting Trump elected, he has declared that Canada is next. And he'll algorithm his way into getting a similarly hateful, brain-dead gov voted in
Everything Trump touches turns to shit eventually. Every person who sells him their soul ends up paying a steep price of some kind, with their career, freedom, wealth, or all three. Musk may seem to have a limitless supply of luck & influence, but, like Tesla’s share price, it’s grossly overvalued.
Politics is a big part of a social network's "product". The product on offer is a community to connect to, and on X that community is full of far-right extremists. So yes, the product sucks.
Didn’t Elon say businesses should execute ruthlessly to achieve stockholder and/or business value? His whining is part of that strategy. Ruthlessly, baselessly assault BS and its users to try to win business. He is a genius - not really. Just has the biggest stack at the table, stealing pots
That's why it's so notable. Splinter has 431k followers on X and only 1.8k followers so far on Bluesky. But Bluesky has sent more traffic over the last 30 days to Splinter than X has.
And you do realize that is the owners of the website hard regulate info on and about this site so i went with Pure statistics. but ill bit send me the link?.
Good example of how lots of money and infrastructure and media influence can’t buy you love. A good, enjoyable product almost always wins. It’s like the fancy restaurant with the good view and big staff can’t compete with the hole in the wall if the food sucks.
I'm also starting to think that social media sites have a shelf life and a life cycle. Nobody under 40 is using Facebook. Instagram is getting its lunch eaten by TikTok. Twitter has just become a lot of shrill noise.
I left twitter because I never see posts from people I follow anymore. It's just people arguing about politics. And no one is seeing my posts either. Twitter is Elon's plaything. He remade it in his image. It will lose money but he doesn't care.
I left Twitter as soon as Elon Musk took it over two years ago n never looked back I don't understand what took people so long to leave that hell scape 🤷🏿♀️
Me and Andy Grove right after he retired as our CEO when I worked at Intel, this was about 2 years after he was on the cover of Time Magazine 'Man of the Year', this was at one of our large townhalls, I'll always cherish that I met this pioneer...
Twitter is already dead since Elon Musk took over and messed it up. Now that Bluesky has taken the helm, and has over 25 million users, it's a great feeling ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
I left Xitter because of Elon's takeover of the platform.
Lack of moderation, replatforming of haters/supremacists/Nazis by his dictum.
I no longer enjoyed the experience.
When he started asking people to down load medical documents and wanted to train Grok on us....I had to go plus it just started to feel like an evidence locker overall....
After the boosting of Blue checks it became just a barrage of 30-40+ Nazi/bigot comments at the top of every post. Even ones that made no sense for them to be there.
And it was too many to block so why would you wanna be a part of that nonsense?
how the original internet worked before they f'd it up and now its so damn heavy with commercialism and cramming money making shit down our throats. I just want one place to connect with people and not see one ad or money begging. Guess I should go to the library...
For now.
All have bots and trolls.
And disinformation.
How often do most of us Google stories/posts?
We just choose who to believe and move on. Or repost even if we don't know what is true. I'm guilty of doing it.
How true! I VERY seldom post on Twitter anymore, but I get notification e-mails of at least 3 new bots following me EVERY DAY. I've only had to deal with a single, solitary bot "follower" since arriving on Bluesky; If I cared enough to check, I'd wager that the account is probably already closed lol
I left when he bought it, so the product had not yet changed. I didn’t know that was called “purity politics,” I just really hate him and knew he’d ruin the platform.
I did it for both! Quit Twitter long before the election. It had become a dumpster fire on every level. But I probably would have stayed off social media altogether, had #bluesky not giving me the opportunity to give Muskrat a #blueraspberry.
Not so fast. I left because Musk owns and it and it sucks but wasn’t even aware of Bluesky as an alternative for news until journalists I follow actively started talking about it on X.
True. Twitter (stupid name X) is garbage. I like my buds on there but the cesspool of ignorance, unhelpful posts and fake accounts adds zero value and in fact, deters from any value the product formerly had. And most of my buds and favorites have upgraded to BlueSky anyway.
I remember when I decided to quit eating at McDonald's in the 1980s. A friend asked if it was because I was angry about "rain forest beef". I said, "No. It's because their food sucks."
July of 2023 when he didn't pay his hosting bill and the site was throttling users, all I was getting was a...
smattering of posts from bots and Nazis. I realized that moving forward, even if this was not the specific problem that would continue, it was going to continue to be awful, if not get worse. The product was destroying my mental health and I walked away from it.
The #EU said Monday it finalized plans to build a $11.1 billion satellite network that will take on #SpaceX's #Starlink. The bloc said the #Iris² satellite constellation will include 290 satellites in low and medium-Earth orbit, expected to be up and running by 2030. 🛰️ https://www.aol.com/news/europe-taking-elon-musk-own-110142871.html
I really think that the issue is bots just clogged up their algorithms. BlueSky just works better and I think that’s in large part due to its fairly difficult captcha. I like it here.
He doesn’t care.
He’s made 5 times what he paid for it since buying it. It’s a loss leader for the oligarch class that was captured to influence the press and boost the oligarch rightwing terrorist army. Profit isn’t the goal.
....as they get mad that people won’t debate their idiotic opinions that have already been debunked several times over.
One of the main reasons I want nothing to do with them. They are in an alt. reality that I don't live in or can relate to.
I used to never block people until they implemented boosted blue checks you could just pay for. I was blocking them on sight but there’s just too many blue check chuds to make twitter salvageable now.
Absolutely agree.
Scrolling past dozens or hundreds of blue check bots or troll nonsense before reaching an actual sane viewpoint. Sanity is being drowned out.
If it wasn't the trolling of a democrat or someone from Hollywood, every topic became non sequiturs about politics that you'd have to wade through blue checks to get to real comments.
I will miss the irony of complaining about the cost of eggs while paying a billionaire to use his free platform.
it's one of the worst decisions I've seen a social media site make. they probably imagine it will compel people to pay for a (previously free) website but they are shortsightedly not considering all the traffic it's driving away because it makes for a horrible user experience.
Changing the purpose of blue checks from being about verifying public figures to being a paid service made the experience so much worse. Blue checks were so that knew the account that tweeted something was actually that person. Now it truly is a tiered user role Elon & others pretended it was before
Regardless of the exact reasons, the leadership by Musk has shown with individual companies is bad.
With Tesla, instead of address safety concerns in a manner benefiting consumers, he rather hide in paperwork battles with Government bureaucracy and collect $50 billion.
People know where their voice is respected, and it's not the company pushing far right voices ahead of everyone else's and charging people a subscription fee for their "free speech" to get any exposure 🤷🏻♀️
Not wanting to see hate speech and not supporting an immoral oligarch with a fetish to impregnate women has nothing to do with ‘purity politics.’ It’s unusable since he took over! Let the incompetent, greedy immigrant fail another business.
Um, when will the communications dept at every place in the world get hip to BlueSky and add them to the social media "share" list??
I'm never going to share anything on facebook, instagram, or anything else that nutter owns or the now defunct twitter.
Someone please let Splinter News know that most left X because it pushes a fascist & “anti-woke” agenda. Staying on that site is essentially allowing that group of greedy senseless people to manipulate your thoughts at will. No thanks.
Muskie now uses everything you post on “X” to train his AI. Once you put something on the platform, you lose any rights to it—it all becomes Muskie’s property. That’s also why he discourages using links or attaching files—he can’t claim ownership over those yet.
The biggest problem I see in people coming from X and/or Twitter, is that they tend to bring X and Twitter with them. That sucks people, leave it there and start a new, BlueSky is like a slice of heaven.
The sole use X still serves for me is following my alma maters' sports teams. All the local sports journalists are there. Fortunately, most fans leave politics out of the discussion, so that community is still relatively non-toxic.
elon was just already reason enough to leave. i wouldn't stay in a place that hurt my business, social life and brain constantly. twitter was uninteresting to begin with.
I was never that active on Twitter (I came here from FB) but months ago I peeked on X to see what the fuss was about. My feed was filled with pro-conservative rhetoric in ALL CAPS and pornography. A few sponsored ads here and there. Wouldn’t miss it if I tried.
trump, musk, the heritage foundation, federalist society, 6 supremes, all republicans want to control the media and force everyone to only have access to THEIR propaganda—just like hitler.

It's about the quality 👌
X is old, BS is new ... but they both suck.
This is the first achievement BY THE PEOPLE.
Who knows what the people can achieve when we are all together.
I don’t know by how much (and I’m not saying it’s a factor in this case) but the bots have to be inflating follower counts by more than people think.
I abandoned Twitter before Xitter happened, but we've all seen the reports of like ~40% political misinformation being pushed by bots.
Throw in other reasons to bot (IE: porn, Pig Butchering), and is it unreasonable to really wager "it's mostly bots?"
https://www.imperva.com/resources/resource-library/reports/bad-bot-report/
BUT, it just feels filthy with bots, and even if that report is say, half right, that’s a ton of bots
don't buy Tesla EV's.
refuse to let him buy an industry.
I’ve been in business a long time and he is one of the worst.
People forget that he started a company because he kept getting fired.
So I do this instead.
No, I don't post the same here as there.
Fuck the Twitter algorithm, bruh.
😂🤣🫡👽🖖🏽🤙🏽😎💯🔥💨😶🌫️💙🦋🏴☠️🍻
Bluesky has 30 million users in general good try though good chap
Twitter X is
95% Elon Musk MAGA propaganda troll bots.
4% B-D list crappy advertising products.
1% MAGA minions.
People are playing double game,They are having accounts on both apps.
—Andy Grove, Intel CEO
“The Innovator’s Dilemma”
—Clayton Christensen
“Go Fuck Yourself”
—Elon Musk
Users joined Twitter, and left X - a very different product.
Lack of moderation, replatforming of haters/supremacists/Nazis by his dictum.
I no longer enjoyed the experience.
Bluesky accomplishes the same but without a MAGA ass-hole owning it. Or none that I'm aware of.
It wasn't a hard decision.
And it was too many to block so why would you wanna be a part of that nonsense?
It's like the world forgot social media is a platform for consumers to use and not the "market place of ideas" incarnate.
We use these sites to get some utility connecting with people we care to listen to and share ideas with.
All have bots and trolls.
