A lot of people who don’t want to mask associate masks with the fear we all felt at the start of the pandemic. I get that! But you need to adjust your mindset to the reality: you should feel SAFER when wearing a mask—because YOU ARE. I’m much less fearful of Covid when I’m protecting myself!

But “it’s safe now” is an emotionally load-bearing belief.
If someone wants/needs to wear a mask that’s fine. It doesn’t really involve me. Why some have any with that confounds me.
I’m going to keep masking but I wish other people would too.
today i learned that was a compromise suggestion by elizabeth dole over airbag mandates!! fascinating… https://www.history.com/news/seat-belt-laws-resistance
it's also true that being overwhelmed and shutting down is a trauma response, and i wish i had good advice to help reach people in that position
maybe the answer is community, a support group?
It is pretty simple, actually!
On Covid watch now.
Fuck.
The messaging on masking was an abject failure. Possibly worse than vax messaging (in the US).
There's a temptation to bow to societal pressure, but then I realize I'm the smartest one in the room right now so I just roll with it. 😁
(Has cameras, security system and guns ready to defend his quiet suburban homestead from the girl scouts knocking on the door)
I have cripple lungs. I used to get sick at everything. Masks have saved my life. They are efficient.
Also, I'm not the only one masking who has not gotten sick.
If no one else is wearing a mask, your own well-fitted mask will very much help reduce your risk. Best, of course, if both people are wearing masks!
Even if we are just a small percentage we are talking millions of people.
And your response is well you are disabled so y'all don't count. Tell me youre ableist without telling me you are ableist
Yes, I have to take the mask off to eat, or to kiss people, but even being masked most of the time protects me as well as you.
They’re the only person wearing a mask
Still covid-free
When schools first opened back up, I wore a tightly woven triple-layer cloth mask with head loops over an ear loop KN94; last year switched to Flomask. Both have protected me from multiple confirmed exposures.
Watch and learn, Tuscon teacher.

(Somehow skipped that word in the first sentence)
Also, it takes big IDGAF Energy to be the only masked person on a flight. I recommend it. 😉👍🏻
Switched to a head strap one and love it.
unfortunately, social courtesy is even less respected than proper pandemic self-defense...
I will also stare at you driving in your car with a mask.
But in the end; you do you if it works.
I will smoke more anti viral weed.
I get it.
People are documenting the significant rise in bad driving post-2020
I look both ways before crossing the street. Yes, I have a well-founded fear of being maimed by a vehicle, and I deal with it by taking a trivial precaution.
I also remember a relative who witnessed an accident where a seatbeltless driver was knocked into the backseat when her car was rear-ended, then out through the windscreen when her driveless car rear-ended the car ahead. FREEEEEEEEEEDOMMM!
People have expected me to want hand sanitizer, not be ok eating from a communal food dish, and to not want hugs. They think my masking is based more on anxiety than evidence.
I will also say that though people don’t get it, they have generally been respectful and accommodating and have gone out of their way to try to make me comfortable.
