When you look at examples of dog breeds from 100 years ago, you can definitely tell thereβs been a significant change in the standards for many breeds. This is the first time Iβve seen a picture of cats that I found startling for the same reason. Look at the eye shape and the more prominent noses!
I was going to question whether this was a real photo because cats of that era normally used very formal English -- But then I thought: "Lots of immigration back then, so maybe these cats aren't speaking English as their first language...", and then it all made sense.
A few Google attempts has only led to an eBay listing for the postcard along with a 3rd I feel like you also have? Or Iβve seen?? They seem to think theyβre the cats names, Albee and Bertrand
I love old pictures and I mourn the loss of the memories of people and animals that have long passed and hopefully not forgotten. Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos
I'd love to know what year this was. I'm assuming 1920's, and I bet they're referring to Portland, Maine, not Oregon like I first thought. It would have been very difficult to travel from New York to Portland, Oregon before the highway system was built.
Theyβre probably the heads of an organized crime family. Paulie and Louie. They look innocent but will run into your legs and trip you if you donβt cough up the treats
It never occurred to me that someone walking around in the late 1800s would come up with a sweet little caption for two kitties such as "We is brothers" in 1902. It seems like such a serious century.
we tend to see a pretty shallow representation of past generations but the more time you spend in historical photos & documents, the clearer it is that people felt the same emotions and did things for much the same reasons that we do. tech changes but people are people to a large degree
not something that shows up in books anyway, but some regional dialects do make the verb "to be" regular by using "is" in all its present tense conjugations and "was" in all its past tense ones, nowadays, presumably also then.
Commercial pet food is garbage. They disguise that with food dyes and flavors. Cats are more sensitive than dogs so it affects them more. Get a natural brand, or table scrapes.
A diet of table scraps will kill your cat. Even the worst commercial cat food is still fortified with stuff they need like taurine that is not contained in table scraps unless youβre eating whole animals including offal for dinner every night.
Thatβs true. I always feel bad when I see the vegetarian food because I know itβs not good enough for the cats. Iβm a vegetarian. I would never force my diet on my cats or anyone .
The only thing my cats like from the table is fish or shrimp. I think itβs helping my senior cat gain some weight. He never gets sick on Fish or shrimp .
One of ours only likes sausage, ham, or steak cutoffs (I tend to trim the fat). The other likes pretty much anything human-food, especially bacon, tuna, cheese, or ice cream.
They both love cream, of course!
Sometimes Iβll let them have a little plain yogurt and very small portions of cheese . no seasonings or salt .my cats live very long lives. Theyβre both on a special diet lol The oldest is 15

yesteryear.
I really love it for it's
uniqueness here.
I inherited my love of Cats from my Mom
who grew up on a farm in the 30s.
They had many barn cat's and one house cat.
Mom spoiled all of
them just the same.
We've had many spoiled Cats too.πΊ
I love that LOLspeak for cats goes back so far, all the way to 1902.
Cat parents since before 1903......

Gaaawd that sentence sounded so nerdy, someone stuff me in a locker.
But I will still embrace historical lol-speak/inventing voices for our pets thatβs slightly off βProperβ π€£
