Yeah, in Sioux Falls there's three game stores (well, one has two locations, so four spots) and a comic shop... and I fully expect at least two of them to fold in the next twelve months if these tariffs stick.

I’m fortunate that I can afford to spend more if I need to. I keep buying from Amazon because it was easy. But a funny thing happened when I stopped buying from them. It wasn’t more difficult to get what I needed. And for the most part it wasn’t more expensive.

This! You have to maintain margin to stay afloat. If I import something for $1 and sell it for $2 and I’m hit with a 35% tariff, I’m not going to sell it for $2.35, I’ll have to sell at $2.70 to maintain my margin. The effective tariff grows larger, but I have to earn for every dollar l spend.

I feel the pain. I worked in an LGS during the financial crisis. People were spending more time in our gaming area but buying much less. We dropped Games Workshop because we couldn't afford minimum orders. We only survived by selling snacks at high markup. This is going to be so much worse.

They calculated the tariffs with a formula that tries to answer the question "how high do tariffs have to be in order to eliminate the trade deficit with a country?" They chose conservative values and discounted the results by half because the results would have been even more disastrous otherwise.

This touches on some things that are really important to remember: Namely that its NOT JUST finished products that are being tariffed. It's going to be everything. Steel and Alum are being taxed at 25% already. Its insane how much this is going to cost people.

It needs to be spelled because too many people keep sticking their head in the sand. Also I think about all of the other stuff that goes along with doing business. Freight, especially. That’s going to go up as will have to worry if OPEC is going to get in on this.

Not just difficult, but expensive.

A lot of "buy American" people have no idea how many things made here are created using foreign components. We don't have the natural resources to produce some of these things, and the facilities to make many more of them simply don't exist.
