Mine took about 3 years to really come back too. It was scary. I lost over 100 lbs and thought I was going to eventually starve to death. I’m so happy yours is coming back finally.
I hear you. Glad you are on the mend, albeit slowly.
I got Covid in 2023, been dealing with Long Covid ever since
And NOW just tested positive for Covid this week. REALLY????
Had all my shots - covid positive today off work until Monday - sucks but glad it seems to be more flulike - many at my job in the hospital with pneumonia
I so so relate. I lost my taste for two years and thought that was it. When it slowly came back it was a rebirth because Imma foodie!! So happy for you.
I got a Xolair shot a few weeks ago which really calmed my MCAs that I had before covid but covid made it 10x worse, I’ve been doing vagus nerve exercises daily. Does your brother have a bunch of new allergies he didn’t have before?
I think it was the Xolair shot I got a few weeks ago, I had MCAs pre-covid and the infection made it 10x worse! I have also been doing vagus nerve stimulation religiously ever night. I think the Xolair shot calmed my MCAs enough for my nervous system to begin healing.
I think it was a Xolair shot I got a few weeks ago which calmed my MCAs. I’ve also been doing vagus nerve stimulation daily. I suspect calming my MCAs, which I had pre-covid, allowed my nervous system to begin to heal
Good to hear. My son also benefits from Xolair — luckily he never had gut problems, but in his case it has improved fatigue, brainfog, & activity limit before he hits PEM. Took about 9 months on Xolair before full benefit was reached, so hopefully you’ll continue to improve?
Son’s immunologist said it’s often up to 3 months before ppl feel any benefit from Xolair, so getting some improvement from the first shot is encouraging!
I think it was me getting a Xolair shot to calm my Covid induced MCAS, which I always had but covid make 10x worse and hellish, and that allowed my nervous system to begin to heal, like I was constantly in fight or flight bc of all the histamine in my system. Also daily vagal nerve stimulation
Mine comes and goes....
SO
Does my sense of smell....
AND
My fog brain/nausea/dizziness
FATIGUE
Improving
BUT
Still sleeping 10+ hours a night
EVERYTHING
Is getting better. ..
HOPE
It is for you too....
I got a Xolair shot a few weeks ago, have been doing vagus nerve stimulation, and that’s honestly what helped me. Other than that, just time. I had MCAs before covid and the infection made it worse, so I suspect the Xolair shot calmed it down for long enough for my nervous system to begin to heal
That's awesome to hear! Me & my wife did lose our sense of smell for weeks back in 2022, so we were lucky. I joked that I could have gone into the worst gas station restrooms and bad porta-potties without a problem.
I'm afraid research on this will get killed in the new shithole administration.
Yeah, it was awful. I'm so glad it is starting to abate. I began to wonder how my body was sustaining itself on such few calories, as I on average was eating probably less than 1000 a day because my stomach would feel immediately full and I had no appetite! I am also tall so it was very concerning
Oh, how did you find out that long covid caused it? I'm asking because I lost my appetite last February. Lost 50 pounds. I'm below normal BMI now. When/how can I get better? Is that what happened to me???
I am fairly certain no gastro paresis here, I've had no real answers from any of the docs I've seen though.
My guess is something something dysbioses something something immune activation. It wasn't a problem until I took antibiotics that made me severe and it all went to heck.
I’m so happy for you! I just went to the doctor again because I’ve never been able to stop coughing since my long Covid diagnosis last September. Wishing you the best always!
I got Covid in January& I have long Covid. This time, it affected my kidneys. My GFR went down to 60%. They are up to 75% just now. I still have to go see nephrologist next month, but the fatigue & brain fog bothersome. It's the small victories that I am finding that's bringing me joy.
No, oddly enough! it’s like my metabolism adjusted and my weight stayed the EXACT same, it was bizarre. Now, I’m starting to lose weight bc my metabolism is normalizing. I’m tall so have a high TDEE and always have been on the thinner side despite having a healthy appetite bc of that.
No, I never lost taste or smell! Not that it made much of a difference because I could barely eat anyways, but I can’t imagine losing my sense of small 😳
GREAT NEWS!!! I was the same way when I got my full sense of taste back! I just sat around eating the stupidest damn things and relearning to cook without 2 to 3 times the spices I did before.
Three years? My husband is bitching about two months. The pharmacist said the research is starting to indicate if you don’t have taste post covid you’re likely still good with immunity. 🤷🏼
Glad your taste is coming back. Go get some wonderful food!

I love hearing recovery stories. I hope the healing continues.
