A games design term that is used a lot but you may not be familliar with is "swingy". It's handy to know and address if your games. So a "swingy" dice mechanic gives you wildly different results regardless of factors such as modifiers and attributes. A typical example is a D20 roll.

#StarTrekAdventures (1e) is great fun to play ONCE YOU HAVE A GOOD GRASP OF THE RULES. I haven't seen the 2e books but the 1e books are so difficult to use. Ruling on the fly takes ages; the rule you want is, very often, spread across two or three sections, many pages apart.
