There's a few functions of the service that are a little obtuse, but they're mostly overshadowed by all of the Mastodon's strengths.
I think Masto is getting quote posts soon, too.
It also has some awesome features. Like more than 300 character posts, hash tag functionality, the ability edit posts. I heckin' love it. I wish more folks would try it.

Maybe there was an initial post the creator wanted to make, and used that as the deciding factor. Like how CDs were 74 minutes to fit Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
