Sympathetic 8-minute video on popular YouTube channel, SciShow, already has over 100,000 views in less than 24 hours. "Exercise Actually Makes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Worse" www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxSw... #MEcfs #CFS

ok, so basically I'm trying to make this post go viral.

How respirators & filters actually work and which type is best? I see many claims that masks/filters don't work. This document will explain *how* they block viruses much smaller than the size of the holes in the filter and why you can still smell nasty things while wearing effective masks. 🧪🧵1/

A thread has been created by Science for ME forum member @forestglip to post summaries of past NIH ME/CFS Research Roadmap Webinars (2023/2024). These summaries may be helpful for people who have trouble watching videos. www.s4me.info/threads/nih-... #MEcfs #CFS #PwME

As 26 January approaches, an antidote to historical amnesia and ignorance

This was shared by @naomidharvey.bsky.social on Twitter (didn't see it posted here yet): "An off label medication list has been compiled for cover from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund for ME/CFS and Post Covid Syndrome (long Covid)..." threadreaderapp.com/thread/18799...

Literally every company now youtube.com/shorts/hL9pl...

Since my episode with the wonderful @longcovidanswer has been released highlighting viral persistence as a major driver of some #LongCOVID pathology, I’ve been asked repeatedly, “what should we do about it?” - totally fair question. Here is my proposed roadmap: 1/

some ways to generate electricity A) use sunlight to drive photosynthesis in plants, let plants die, wait ~100 million years, dig up fossilized plants, burn plants, use heat to boil water, use steam to drive a rotating turbine, use generator to make electrons B) use sunlight to make electrons

Possibly the best clap back against ignorant antivaxxers.

Seriously?! You’re telling me that a government is arguing against providing clean drinking water, a basic human right and the absolute minimum expectation of any government. How our public values and debate have degenerated!

BE WORRIED BE VERY WORRIED. #ClimateCrisis means more droughts, bushfires & extreme weather events. Stop subsidising & burning fossil fuels ASAP. You too, AUS !! #auspol #AusVotes25

Yes. Yes. Yes. An Australian trends section please!! Retweet if you agree. #aussietrends

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford Medicine have devised an influenza vaccine that prompts immunity to ALL four major flu subtypes AND shows potential against bird flu, indicating a significant advancement in flu prevention and a potential increase in vaccine efficacy. Let’s talk about that! 🧪🧵⬇️

I encourage folks to move away from New Year's resolutions and instead focus on intentions. Rather than treat yourself like a machine with production value, think about your dreams. What makes you feel good? Aim for those things. Don't guilt yourself all year. Let yourself grow.

This article is 109 years old. And we still aren't doing enough to act on climate change.

And the Australian 2024 Useless Government Agency Of The Year award goes to . . . . . *drum roll* the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Yaaay!! Well done @strangerous.bsky.social for judging the #NACC the supreme winner out of a crowded field of incompetent, taxpayer-funded duds. #pfffft

#LongCovid mirrors #me/cfs in key ways, esp. post-exertional malaise ( #pem ) – where exertion worsens symptoms. Emerging research links this to mitochondrial dysfunction, endothelial issues & muscle fiber shifts. Still no treatments, but trials are underway. Science must catch up.

It’s clear Cochrane has flash-incinerated all remaining illusions of competence and goodwill for reasons that purposely will remain unknown. Time for us writers to take this effort outside of the Cochrane brand. It’s too important to do nothing. @davetuller1.bsky.social virology.ws/2024/12/17/t...

Reminder…Self care is going to be critical to our survival. Please look after yourselves mentally, and physically. Let’s also not forget to look after one another. 💙

Fun polio fact: it is asymptomatic in 70% of cases. In 29.5% of the cases symptoms do appear, they are gastrointestinal distress, normal enterovirus stuff. Polio only displays neurological symptoms in 0.5% of cases. You don't remember polio, you only remember *longpolio*

In the past 30 days, over 75% of South Australia’s energy came from renewables, an incredible leap from 0% not long ago. The graph below showing this transition is fascinating. Amazingly, some reading this, particularly over on Twitter, will be furious about it.

These are superb consensus recommendations on the diagnosis and management of ME from The States. The authors are true experts in the field who actively treat patients. I’m determined to produce something similar in the UK (also huge fan of not reinventing the wheel).

An excellent and informative thread 🧵
