Think you may be flattering the sophistication. Send 5m email, get gets say 40% responses checked for obvious profanity/abuse, link all to the IRS earnings and you have a naughty/nice list sorted by salary for the chopping block. Only way is mass non-response or mass BS response to gum up the works.

Here's a better idea. Once the Russians have left Ukraine and Ukraine joins the EU, let the US negotiate a trade agreement with the EU and major powers go back to respecting sovereign borders.

The current system is being systematically dismantled. In 4 years it will be irrelevant as there won't be a functioning representative democracy and legislature. Is anyone paying attention?

By maintaining the line that the 2020 election was rigged, MAGA effectively created the scenario that disputing an election outcome was just normal noise and can be ignored. It's the "The 2024 elections was rigged .... so what, so was the 2020 one". The typical "yes, but what about...." argument.

I give it a month before Trump stops fronting up to the media and all we get is monologue from this minion.

Selling it to Oracle would only be marginally slower than closing it down immediately.

I remember a bit of a fretless base thing going on about then too. Ah, happy days :-)

This is a great insight. Thank you for sharing. Loved the show, and that was a lot to do with the science being interesting and relevant. Thank you.

It's been a very long time since I've been this excited about a new movie. Thank you!

There will be 2 years of blaming the previous administration followed by 2 years of fear mongering about the next election. That, and the public attention span of a goldfish should see them right.

Would love a "block all" list too 🙂

Another WTF moment out of the US. Let me add that to the list.

Have you walked down Sauchiehall street on a Saturday night after 9pm recently? I would love that the city I was born in wasn't like that, but it is. Stereotypes can still be accurate and wishing they weren't doesn't make it less so.

Hopefully there weren't any embedded Word images too

Edinburgh has a much less stabby vibe in the city centre, which makes for a more pleasant festive experience I find.

Reckon there will be a tweak to change term limits to "two consecutive terms".

Noticed a big uptick in hacking probes on my server since I changed my handle to my domain name. Not a big deal, but I suppose they will get harvested for nefarious deeds 🙂

A bit of electoral reform wouldn't go amiss either

There needs to be an opposite of a starter pack, where with one click you can block the barbarian hordes.

I have some faint optimism that Biden will issue a swathe of Executive Orders that will help shore up the US democracy for the incoming shitstorm.

Wish You Were Here is my go to album, but also The Pretenders debut album if I need something more upbeat. Nothing better than to revisit those indelible teenage moments after saving up pocket money and finally putting the needle down on it for the first time.

Agreed. Extraordinary poetry and emotion in his lyrics.

I love these starter packs, and the Discover feed is getting much better. Just need to figure out how to get rid of all the cat photos 😆. Now you see, I've probably just made it worse by using the word "cat" ... damn, did it again.

Not that I have any followers, but trying out the registered domain verification thing. But yes, a decent verification process would help with all the imitation profiles.

Two party system makes for an unrepresentative us v them shouting match and distances MPs from the views of their constituents. If consistently 75% of the population are in favour of this, how could it even be close? www.dignityindying.org.uk/assisted-dyi...

Agree with this. He'll just use executive orders, and there will be a lot of shouting and screaming and eventually the Supreme Court will side in his favour.

Can't thank you enough for your advice on topping up my NI contributions for missing years. I migrated to Australia 20+ years ago, and had no idea I even qualified for the basic UK state pension until your article. HMRC have been a bit hard to contact, but a year later I'm all up to date! Thank you!

Why is this a surprise? Rules and norms don't apply, and when their looking for something to implement they will pickup the first thing that comes to hand, i.e. Project 2025.

Love Frontline too. PBS are the benchmark for really good journalism, and we're going to need as much of that as we can get in the next 4 years.

Must admit, I've spent a lot more time reading books than browsing news outlets. It's all been so difficult to understand and has been one nightmare announcement after another.

Hard to maintain any level of optimism. Difficult to imagine what will be left after four years. In the words of the Proclaimers, albeit different context, "What do you do when minority means you, What do you do when the rest can't see it's true"
