Warren: "He can stand there, smile at you and say, 'anybody can vaccinate their kids who wants to,' but he literally could bankrupt the vaccines manufacturers with the power he will have. And since he's got a financial incentive to do that, we cannot trust him in that job."

Reeves will resort to literally anything but admit we can’t afford Brexit. I’ve never known a chancellor so single-mindedly determined to make life so difficult for herself and us. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I don’t make many predictions, but I think they’re about to oust the Chief Exec of NHS England+replace her (probably with someone close to Tony Blair or linked with the private health sector)🚨 My newsletter today covers a new report which is critical of NHS leaders… jujuliagrace.substack.com

Five years on, how’s that Brexit going for you? #ToryBrexitDisaster #BetterOffWithEU #Breturn #RejoinEU 🇬🇧🇪🇺💙💛

Clive Myrie, "Campaigners have reacted angrily to news that women affected by changes to the state pension age won't receive compensation" "The parliamentary ombudsman recommended earlier this year that thousands of women in the 1950s should receive payments"

The government is facing fresh backlash after announcing that up to 3.8 million women will not receive compensation after being affected by changes to the state pension age. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

‘These are women who have had the rug pulled from underneath them’ Josie Irwin, UNISON head of equality, on BBC Breakfast on the women affected by age-related changes to the state pension @waspicampaign.bsky.social

Guess what Chancellor I didn’t know about the pension changes and I lost over £40,000 how about MPs give up their meal allowance so you have some spare change to give to Waspi women? Lifelong labour voter but never again. You have betrayed us. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cl...

A modest proposal: if you think WASPI women are (a) folk with an invalid cause who (b) ought to have known about pension changes which impacted them, maybe you shouldn't have (c) sought their support, endorsed their aims or got photographs taken standing in solidarity with them.

The government is facing backlash for rejecting the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman recommended compensation for women negatively affected by changes to the state pension. The People’s Museum has this gorgeous protest banner made by Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) in 2018

Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government has reneged on promises made in opposition that the party would compensate women born in the 1950s who lost up to tens of thousands of pounds due to pension changes under previous governments. www.wsws.org/en/articles/...

Yesterday in Westminster Hall, I stood up for the 5,420 women in Epsom & Ewell- and the millions across the UK- who were let down by the Government's failure to properly notify them of State Pension age changes. These women deserve justice, not empty apologies. #WASPI

🐝 Before the election, Labour promised to back @waspicampaign.bsky.social fight for justice. ❌ Now, they’ve ruled out compensation for 1950s-born women robbed by the UK’s unfair pension age changes. 🥀 Labour betrayed the WASPI women.

The Sun’s senior management need their own day in court www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... The Sun's senior management has persistently lied about the illegal actions of those working for it. It is time they were held to account for their actions.

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Can someone explain why TikTok is a bigger national security concern than a social media platform run by a South African technofeudal oligarch actively interfering in our elections and sabotaging our national interests here and abroad?

With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.

Badenoch apologises for neoliberalism, saying it has failed www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... For the first time, a major polotical party leader has acknowledged that neoliberalism has failed. It's just a shame that Kemi Badenoch has no idea how to manage the consequences of that.

Is it just possible Labour is losing votes to Greens and Lib Dems because those parties accept we need to get back into a rational relationship with the EU? labourlist.org/2025/01/youg...

Obvious I know but the precession of US Tech CEOs heading to Mar-A-Lago and gifting $1m to Trumps party fund is as stark a warning we'll get that US Democracy is in steep decline. This in a world that really needs global leadership I am really struggling to get my head around what comes next though

The Daily Mail has never been pro-British- it has always been pro-fascist. The Daily Mail is owned by the 4th Viscount Rothermere, passed on from 3rd, 2nd & 1st Viscounts. It’s been a tool of hereditary power & privilege undermining our democracy. Musk & Trump excite them to take their mask off.

Here's the official UK government website to apply for an ETA to enter the UK (required for visitors from 48 countries including the US and Japan, since 8 January). There are a lot of scam websites out there charging premium fees to submit an ETA application - be careful! www.gov.uk/guidance/app...

I'm looking for small mercies this week so I'll pat myself on the back for the fact that I just successfully folded a fitted sheet for the first time.

Word of the Day is ‘uhtcearu’ [ucht-kay-aru, with the 'ch' as in the Scottish ‘loch']: Old English for ‘the sorrow before dawn', when you lie awake in the darkness and worries crowd your mind.

He’s guilty of 34 counts of business fraud He stole classified documents and led a conspiracy to obstruct the retrieval of them He pressured elections officials in Georgia to overturn their election results He tried to overthrow an American election And he won't face consequences for ANY of that

When you're too stupid to get the joke.

57 companies are responsible for 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions since 2016. These companies include fossil fuel giants like Chevron, Shell, and BP, who have been raking in record profits. The profits of Big Oil should not be more important than the future of our planet.

What would Reform do about potholes? youtu.be/AVr6eHq3PRw?... Managing potholes is a core, unglamourous and unthanked task of government. Reform only knows about gesture politics. Until anyone believes Reform can manage potholes they shouldn’t support them.

Here's an example of a business impacted by the EU's new GSPR regulations which came in on 13 December. These make it harder for non-EU firms to export to the EU, and to NI. Consequence? Lower UK exports, and less choice for consumers in the EU and in NI. brambleandcodogwear.co.uk/pages/shipping

Brexit reset: five business leaders on how they’d like relations with the EU to change www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Brexit the elephant is out in Westminster today dropping hints. #BrexitTheElephant

Starmer’s position on Brexit becoming increasingly laughable: ‘the shortage of builders had been partially plugged in recent decades with workers from the EU - a recruitment pool which has dried up after freedom of movement ended as a result of Brexit.’ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Guys things are starting to look *extremely concerning* in terms of pressures on the NHS, and we need to demand action right now from Wes Streeting. Please click, sign this and share. 🤞💙🚨 actionnetwork.org/petitions/cr...

Voters believe our economic future lies with the EU rather than with president Trump

Labour continue to bark up the wrong Brexit tree while the mood of the country stampedes away from them. (If you've not been paying attention, various Labour bigwigs have made a point of reinforcing their "no to SM, CU, FoM or Rejoin" message in recent weeks.) www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

"54% of Britons who voted leave, including 59% of voters in “red wall seats”, said in exchange for single market access they would now accept full free movement for EU and UK citizens to travel, live and work across borders." https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/dec/12/majority-of-brexit-voter…

I increasingly think that tech companies, specifically, should be subject to a punitive carbon tax. If you want to build inaccurate plagiarism machines, fine, but you should be strongly discouraged from warming the planet as a result. No one *needs* this extra fossil fuel use

Did I miss #r4today mentioning the outrage that farmers in London yesterday had blocked ambulances getting through the streets to answer emergencies?

Why has Rachel Reeves called in bankers to advise on the NHS? youtu.be/00MtdwnWfB0?... Rachel Reeves must think the only job a government has is to balance its books. There can be no other explanation for the insanity of calling in bankers to advise on the NHS.
