When politicians like Liz Kendall, Wes Streeting, and Torsten Bell demonize and punish those on benefits with horrendous disability cuts, the May elections are your chance to punish them. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Does Starmer really think that steel is more important than water, mail, rail & energy - all shackled by manufactured debt and profiteering

Looks like Trump intends to keep the stock markets girating like rollercoasters on steroids, so that his mates can keep making money on the ups, and on the downs. Meanwhile, the chilling effect of so much uncertainty will be catastrophic for the global economy. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

BREAKING: “Europe has everything it needs to make it through the storm. We are in this together. If you take on one of us, you take on all of us” Ursula von der Leyen President of the European Commission 👏

Thames Water wants to be spared billions of pounds of costs and fines over the next 5 years. TW ripped off customers, dumped sewage in rivers, neglected investment, borrowed money to pay dividends. Laws must apply. No public bailout. Let it go bankrupt. Nationalise for nominal sum.

The UK benefits system is broken. One third of benefits are not paid and by far the biggest recipients of state aid are the wealthiest people in the country www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/03...

Has the UK regained its position as the poor man of Europe? www.theneweuropean.co.uk/steve-angles...

UK’s foreign trade remains scarce, and the main sectors of its economy are suffering from rising costs, more complex bureaucracy, and labour shortages....trading prospects remain uncertain on the fifth anniversary of #Brexit. Its economic benefits have yet to materialize.

Downing Street considers U-turn on cuts to benefits for disabled people. That would be good. People must keep up pressure. Visit your MP's surgery. Must reverse the two child benefit cap, restore winter fuel payment to pensioners below the poverty line.

If you are not yet familiar with the shocking #IPPscandal, one of the most cruel & monumental injustices of the past half-century, please watch this update. Let’s not wait for the next ITV drama to end this injustice youtu.be/nkBs2D0Wz_g?...

Regulator accused of letting hedge funds control Thames Water. TW shares worthless, shareholders won't invest. Lenders in control, want public money, will continue to extract cash. OFWAT approved price hikes, likely to suspend fines. Must nationalise to end crisis. archive.ph/vr4UK

This is absolutely shocking if true. A government's treatment of its most vulnerable citizens is a key indicator of its humanity and the strength of its social fabric. Enough is enough

this is CRAZY

Budapest today. People are demanding that PM Orban resign.

Giant corporations shifting profits to low/no tax havens to dodge taxes. Globally US$1.42 trillion profit shifted. US$348bn a year tax dodged. UK a big loser. UK govts do little to curb corporate tax abuses. People pay more, services cut, welfare rights lost. Who governs? People v Corporations.

Warren: "He can stand there, smile at you and say, 'anybody can vaccinate their kids who wants to,' but he literally could bankrupt the vaccines manufacturers with the power he will have. And since he's got a financial incentive to do that, we cannot trust him in that job."

Reeves will resort to literally anything but admit we can’t afford Brexit. I’ve never known a chancellor so single-mindedly determined to make life so difficult for herself and us. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I don’t make many predictions, but I think they’re about to oust the Chief Exec of NHS England+replace her (probably with someone close to Tony Blair or linked with the private health sector)🚨 My newsletter today covers a new report which is critical of NHS leaders… jujuliagrace.substack.com

Clive Myrie, "Campaigners have reacted angrily to news that women affected by changes to the state pension age won't receive compensation" "The parliamentary ombudsman recommended earlier this year that thousands of women in the 1950s should receive payments"

The government is facing fresh backlash after announcing that up to 3.8 million women will not receive compensation after being affected by changes to the state pension age. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

‘These are women who have had the rug pulled from underneath them’ Josie Irwin, UNISON head of equality, on BBC Breakfast on the women affected by age-related changes to the state pension @waspicampaign.bsky.social

Guess what Chancellor I didn’t know about the pension changes and I lost over £40,000 how about MPs give up their meal allowance so you have some spare change to give to Waspi women? Lifelong labour voter but never again. You have betrayed us. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cl...

A modest proposal: if you think WASPI women are (a) folk with an invalid cause who (b) ought to have known about pension changes which impacted them, maybe you shouldn't have (c) sought their support, endorsed their aims or got photographs taken standing in solidarity with them.

The government is facing backlash for rejecting the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman recommended compensation for women negatively affected by changes to the state pension. The People’s Museum has this gorgeous protest banner made by Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) in 2018

Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government has reneged on promises made in opposition that the party would compensate women born in the 1950s who lost up to tens of thousands of pounds due to pension changes under previous governments. www.wsws.org/en/articles/...

Yesterday in Westminster Hall, I stood up for the 5,420 women in Epsom & Ewell- and the millions across the UK- who were let down by the Government's failure to properly notify them of State Pension age changes. These women deserve justice, not empty apologies. #WASPI

🐝 Before the election, Labour promised to back @waspicampaign.bsky.social fight for justice. ❌ Now, they’ve ruled out compensation for 1950s-born women robbed by the UK’s unfair pension age changes. 🥀 Labour betrayed the WASPI women.

The Sun’s senior management need their own day in court www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... The Sun's senior management has persistently lied about the illegal actions of those working for it. It is time they were held to account for their actions.

No comment needed.

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Can someone explain why TikTok is a bigger national security concern than a social media platform run by a South African technofeudal oligarch actively interfering in our elections and sabotaging our national interests here and abroad?

With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.

Badenoch apologises for neoliberalism, saying it has failed www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... For the first time, a major polotical party leader has acknowledged that neoliberalism has failed. It's just a shame that Kemi Badenoch has no idea how to manage the consequences of that.

Is it just possible Labour is losing votes to Greens and Lib Dems because those parties accept we need to get back into a rational relationship with the EU? labourlist.org/2025/01/youg...

Obvious I know but the precession of US Tech CEOs heading to Mar-A-Lago and gifting $1m to Trumps party fund is as stark a warning we'll get that US Democracy is in steep decline. This in a world that really needs global leadership I am really struggling to get my head around what comes next though

The Daily Mail has never been pro-British- it has always been pro-fascist. The Daily Mail is owned by the 4th Viscount Rothermere, passed on from 3rd, 2nd & 1st Viscounts. It’s been a tool of hereditary power & privilege undermining our democracy. Musk & Trump excite them to take their mask off.

Here's the official UK government website to apply for an ETA to enter the UK (required for visitors from 48 countries including the US and Japan, since 8 January). There are a lot of scam websites out there charging premium fees to submit an ETA application - be careful! www.gov.uk/guidance/app...

I'm looking for small mercies this week so I'll pat myself on the back for the fact that I just successfully folded a fitted sheet for the first time.
