Wonder how Bill Cassidy is feeling about himself these days

@betoorourke.bsky.social tells Sen. Chuck Schumer to resign during a rally with @governorwalz.mn.gov

REMINDER: Support affordable housing in Chevy Chase. The meeting is TOMORROW. You can attend in-person or virtually. This is one of DC's most exclusionary neighborhoods and NIMBYs have resisted all attempts to bring more housing there. We need your voice! RSVP: actionnetwork.org/events/yimby...

The lesson Trump learned right away in his first term is that accountability gives permission to the media to cover the story as a scandal while stonewalling with lies and denials prompts the media to move on and say the story is over

A very old Soviet joke, from an especially dark time: Foxes are fleeing the USSR in droves. Q: Why are you running away? Fox: The Soviets passed a new law that they’re going to arrest all camels. Q: But you’re foxes! Fox: Yeah, why don’t *you* try proving to the NKVD that you’re not a camel.

Registration for YIMBYTown 2025 is open. I've been to many conferences related to cities/housing, and this one is my favorite—engaging sessions (i.e. not all talks/panels), walks and bicycle rides, happy hours, etc. If you're at all interested in pro-housing advocacy, you must attend! yimby.town

Tout this widely. The biggest danger right now is, as @dandrezner.bsky.social said yesterday, pluralistic ignorance, when “people who hold a majority opinion are unaware that it is a majority opinion”. We need to broadcast all the signs that the town halls etc are not a fluke.

“Emails” is a complete rebuttal to the endlessly repeated refrain that some scandal is politically meaningless or won’t move voters, a refrain usually repeated BY JOURNALISTS AND POLITICIANS THEMSELVES to excuse not focusing on the scandals. Complete reversal of cause and effect

The NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER added the EDITOR OF THE ATLANTIC to a PRINCIPALS COMMITTEE TEXT CHAIN set up for the DEFENSE SECRETARY about PLANNED MILITARY STRIKES. Here's a thread of involved parties talking about the need for secure communications (when Dems are involved):

Zero harm and ample upside in Democrats calling for impeachments and a special prosecutor. The VP, the Secretaries of State, Defense, and Treasury, the DNI, and the NSC were all involved in the grossly negligent disclosure of specifics on combat operations.

the single most consequential thing that naive ‘orange man bad’ heuristics would have mislead you on is probably Operation Warp Speed, and since he retroactively went anti-vax and appointed an essential oils crank to HHS, it’s not even that big a miss.

Progressives: "Pursue our good policy agenda, it will win you an election!" WRONG Moderates: "Want to win elections? Pursue this bad policy agenda!" ALSO WRONG Basically nobody: "Pursue a good policy agenda, because policy outcomes don't really effect elections" CORRECT

Only 17% of people thinking Elon is a drug addict is a real growth opportunity for discourse generation. How do we get journalists asking the white house about his drug consumption? What is Trump's take on his ketamine usage?

rfk jr's attitude toward anyone or thing that gets sick is "if he dies, he dies."

Anyone seen any info/response from DC officials on this? @maustermuhle.bsky.social

to be clear, USIP staff spoke to MPD prior and then called them to report DOGE as trespassers and when the cops showed up they instead held the door open for Musk’s thugs.

to me the most disturbing fact about DOGE’s raid on the US Institute of Peace is that the local cops helped them.

It's happening again...

One of the most important things for Dems to do for long-term viability as a party is elect as many pro-housing local leaders as we can, especially in states projected to lose population - then empower them to build fast.

New NBER paper shows dramatic effects of NYC's congestion pricing in contrast with a set of control cities: A large reduction in travel times on roadways—average speeds increased by 15%—combined with a substantial reduction in vehicular emissions. www.nber.org/system/files...

This is appalling for the mistreatment, the arbitrary refusal to honor a valid visa, and the contempt of court, but on top of that: We do not have enough transplant physicians. They are worth more than their weight in gold. The Trump admin just deported one solely out of bigotry.

NIMBYs will fight tooth and nail against ANY zoning change to allow new housing, no matter how little it will change existing neighborhood look and feel; so advocates should just ask for what they actually want.

Anyway I just sent a fax to my senator. faxzero.com/fax_senate.php

People who don't pay much attention would think we're crazy to state that a core project of the current conservative movement is to disenfranchise women.

Really happy to see this new Econofact memo out that explains why deportations could actually *increase* crime and that they certainly will not decrease crime. econofact.org/can-heighten...

Trump's own former chief of staff warned the country about this exact thing, at great risk to himself, and the New York Times imes ran it on A14 and buried it

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

I joined @freedcproject.bsky.social on Capitol Hill to talk with senators about allowing D.C. to spend our local dollars on our priorities - on public safety, education, and more essential services. We must prevent a catastrophic cut to DC’s budget in the continuing resolution.

my latest: whether or not this is a constitutional crisis, there ought to be no question that our constitutional order is rotting from the inside out

This chart seems to suggest that something is going wrong in the United States, specifically. (www.ft.com/content/7568... )

Not lost on me how funny it is that Trump put a 10% tariff on Canadian electricity and it was good and based but when Doug Ford put a 25% export tax on electricity it was an evil attack on America’s basic security and freedom that needed to be retaliated against.

This, @fetterman.senate.gov, is one of the many reasons I'm asking as your constituent to vote against the dirty CR. (Another reason is the tariff validation hidden in it.) It's not a clean CR; it does more than move dates. Voting "yes" is endorsing the lawlessness and chaos of the Trump admin.

Tell your senators to stop the CR. Even if it were clean! Which it’s not!

Today I published a story about the Trump admin moving away from Housing First, and I wanted to offer a few additional thoughts. I’ve been covering homelessness for a long time, and I do think HF advocates need to reconsider some aspects of their advocacy /1 🧵

Yes this is true: Dems seem to be pairing rhetorical moderation with procedural hardball, and I am very appreciative of the latter
